Jabbour Beats Wayne to APO Main Event Day 1f Chip Lead

Nível 14 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Sayed Jabbour
Sayed Jabbour

After fourteen-and-a-half levels on Day 1f of the Australian Poker Open Main Event, just 18 players survived through to Day 2 at Doltone House Western Sydney at Club Marconi.

And the gap at the top is less than a single buy-in. Sayed Jabbour (1,042,000) held off the late surge from Dylan Wayne (1,009,000) to bag the chip lead and top the field of 147 — the biggest starting flight of the APO so far.

It had looked like Jabbour had been pipped to the chip lead by Wayne, with Jabbour having held the chip lead for long periods after the elimination of Zelig Otter, after they shoved into Jabbour's nut straight holding just ace-high.

Joining Jabbour and Wayne in Day 2 are father and son duo Mark and Patrick Yazbeck. However, it'll be bragging rights for the younger of the two, with Patrick bagging 331,000 to his father's 213,000.

A big name through to Day 2 is Martin Finger (pictured) who also bagged 213,000. A WPT bracelet winner and EPT champion, Finger had to battle his way through to Day 2, but with 16 cashes in the country since the start of 2022, the German has more than enough experience to continue his push to the APO title.

Everyone through to Day 2 has guaranteed themselves a min-cash worth $5,000, but will be eyeing up more once Day 2 resumes on Saturday, March 30 at 12 p.m. local time so stay tuned to PokerNews for all of the action.

Nicholas Wright Bubbles APO Main Event Day 1f

Nível 14 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Nicholas Wright

Mark Yazbeck limped from early position, as did Graham Cowan in the small blind. Nicholas Wright then moved all in for 125,000 from the big blind. Yazbeck folded and Cowan called.

Nicholas Wright: AK All in
Graham Cowan: A4

Wright had woken up with a premium hand, but the Q94 flop handed Cowan the lead. The turn 2 and river 8 bricked and Wright was eliminated.

The remaining 18 players are all bagging up ahead of Day 2 which starts at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 30.

The turn 8 improved Yazbeck to a full house and the river 6 was irrelevant as he doubled up.
