Mustapha Kanit Crushes Day 3 of the Aussie Millions

Nível 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Mustapha Kanit
Mustapha Kanit

Another day at the Aussie Millions is in the books and once again it was all about Mustapha Kanit. The Italian all-time money leader crushed the opposition and didn't seem to be able to lose a hand. He ended the day with a massive 2.3 million, far more than any of the other 35 remaining players.

Fedor Holz (539,000), Jennifer Tilly (700,400) and several other notables are also still left in the field, making the Aussie Millions once again a tournament to follow for anyone even remotely interested in poker.

Day 3 of the 2017 Aussie Millions started with exactly 150 players, and 70 would go home empty-handed as only 80 would cash. While 70 players might sound like a lot, they were dropping like flies early on although play tightened up as the bubble loomed.

Before the tournament went hand for hand, Australian poker legend Billy "The Croc" Argyros played a pot that got people from the entire poker room rushing to see what was going on. While Argyros, a member of the Australian Poker Hall of Fame, must have played thousands and thousands of hands in his long and illustrious poker career, we're sure he won't forget this one anytime soon. He got it in for quite a bit of chips with a set of deuces against a set of queens. The river, you guessed it, was a deuce and Argyros knocked out his opponent with a pure one-outer.

Despite winning that pot, Argyros would not make it into the money as he busted just before the AUD$15,000 min cash cheques were getting handed out.

The last player to share that fate was Alek Givotovsk. The first hand of hand for hand play, he lost ace-queen suited to ace-king suited and that was it, the 80 remaining 2017 Aussie Millions Main Event players were in the money.

One player was particularly happy about that; WSOP APAC champion Scott Davies survived the bubble with just a single big blind and one ante. He didn't make the great comeback he hoped for, but still seemed happy just cashing.

While Mustapha Kanit already had the chiplead at that time, post-bubble would only be more of the same as Kanit kept sending people to the rail and collecting chips. He hit a set of fives against Felix Schulze who had top-two with ace-king, and busted Richard Ashby on the last hand of the day to finish play with that huge stack.

Kanit is joined by several other notables, some of them fellow high rollers. Koray Aldemir, Fedor Holz and Jeff Rossiter are just some of the players who'll we be seeing on Day 4 of the Main Event. They're joined by Jennifer Tilly who crushed in her own way. Starting out as chipleader, she slowly but steadily chipped up. One failed bluff set her back a little, but she recovered soon enough and ended the day with 700,000 - well above average.

Day 4 of the Main Event is the day the livestream starts so on top of live updates from the PokerNews team, you'll be able to follow the feature table with the soft voice of Jason Somerville guiding you through the action and tactics.

Play will resume at 12:30 p.m. local time, with 43 minutes and 4 seconds left in the level 5,000/10,000 with 1,000 ante. The tournament, from here on out six-handed, will play down to a final table on Day 4.

Altman Busts McCorkell

Nível 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Craig McCorkell
Craig McCorkell

A short-stacked Craig McCorkell moved all-in from early position for 36,000 with Ruzman Hussan making the call in the small blind before Brian Altman squeezed all-in from the big blind to take the hand heads-up.

McCorkell’s {q-Diamonds}{9-Spades} was trailing to Altman’s {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} and the British player tapped the table and headed to the rail when the board ran out {2-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{6-Clubs} {4-Spades}{a-Hearts} while Altman stacked up to 430,000 in chips.

Kanit Takes Chip Lead After Massive Hand Against Yan

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Mustapha Kanit
Mustapha Kanit

A massive hand was brewing over on Table 32 when the action was caught from the turn.

Nicholas Dixon was on the table and informed that the hand started with Richard Ashby raising from middle position before Mustapha Kanit came over the top with a reraise. [Removed:17] then cold four-bet from the hijack as the decision folded back to Ashby. He folded. Kanit called.

The board came out {q-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Kanit checked. Yan slid out a continuation bet only for Kanit to come back over the top to 175,000. Yan called.

The turn brought the {7-Diamonds} and from there Kanit checked once more and Yan immediately reached for his chips. He stacked up a tower and slid out 140,000. Kanit called shortly after.

The {a-Clubs} completed the board and Kanit checked. Yan checked behind and flipped over his {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} for a pair of kings. Kanit then turned over his {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} for a set of queens and raked in the massive pot.

Tollerene Doubles Through Burns, Burns Doubles Through Andreadis

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Kahle Burns
Kahle Burns

As we arrived on Table 26, small blind Ben Tollerene was facing a shove from under the gun player Kahle Burns. The board read {Q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{K-Spades} and while there appeared to be a little over 100,000 in the pot, the shove was for much more than that. Tollerene tanked for quite some time before he eventually called.

Burns admitted defeat right away; "Good call."

Tolerene showed {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and Burns mucked, only to have his hand revealed by the dealer because it was an all-in and a call; {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}.

The next hand, Burns got his 206,000 in against one-time chipleader Jim Andreadis. The latter had {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} while Burns showed {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. The board ran out {6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and Burns doubled up.

Alek Givotovsky Bubbles the 2017 Aussie Millions Poker Championship

Nível 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Alek Givotovsky bubbles Aussie Millions 2017 Main Event
Alek Givotovsky bubbles Aussie Millions 2017 Main Event

The bubble of the 2017 Aussie Million main event lasted just one hand with Alek Givotovsky earning himself the unfortunate title of bubble boy.

The hand started with Givotovsky moving all in for 68,000 from middle position and finding a call from Stephen Bantick in the cutoff.

Bantick: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
Givotovsky: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

The crowd surrounded the table and watched as the dealer produced the {a-Clubs}{6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} board. Bantick's king-kicker would prove the difference sending Givotovsky to the rail one player short of the money.

Sick Call Sees Kanit Crushing

Nível 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Mustapha Kanit
Mustapha Kanit

Mustapha Kanit just exhibited why he’s considered an elite player after making what can only be described as a sick call against Tony Mladenovski.

It was three-handed on a flop of {2-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and after the small blind checked his option, Mladenovski fired for 38,500. Kanit called and with the small blind out of the way the dealer revealed the {q-Hearts} turn card.

Mladenovski loaded up again and fired for 44,500. Kanit stuck around to see the {3-Diamonds} river.

Mladenovski then made it 49,500 and Kanit began to deliberate. He appeared to be counting his own stack and spent a couple of minutes analyzing the situation. Ultimately Kanit decided on a call with {k-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for just bottom pair.

That was good as Mladenovski was holding {a-Spades}{8-Diamonds} with ace high.

“Nice hand” Mladenovski conceded as the pot was pushed to Kanit.

“I wasn’t sure if I had to raise or call the river,” commented Kanit, who added that he just called due to the looming bubble.

Suck, Resuck

Nível 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

Erik Seidel, down to just 30,000, got his chips in before the flop with a powerhouse of a hand: {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}. Artur Koren, who could spare the measly 30,000, had {3-Spades}{3-Diamonds}.

Seidel was in excellent position to double up with 90 players left and 80 paid, but the flop wasn't good for him: {3-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{5-Hearts}.

Seidel, now on the brink of busting 10 before the money, didn't move an inch and seemed as tranquil as ever.

Rightfully so, it turned out. After {7-Hearts} hit the turn, the {2-Hearts} on the river brought salvation for the seasoned pro.

Tony Dunst Done And Dusted

Nível 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Tony Dunst
Tony Dunst

Last year’s runner-up Tony Dunst won’t be making consecutive final table appearances – he just exited the tournament area after being eliminated.

All the money was in the middle and the cards were spread {10-Spades}{3-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{k-Spades} when we spotted Dunst out of his seat. He had {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} in front of him but that was no good against his opponent’s {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}.
