Ivey Does the Birthday Triple

Nível 7 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

From the cutoff seat, Phil Ivey, who is celebrating his birthday today and trying to book his fourth LK Boutique $250,000 Challenge win, raised all in for 31,000. Connor Drinan called on the button, but then Fedor Holz reraised to 228,000 from the small blind, effectively committing himself to the pot against the others with chips still active. Ben Tollerene folded from the big blind, Drinan gave it up as well, and Holz revealed the {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}.

Ivey had the {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}, and he picked up a rather favorable flop when the {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts} rolled out to give him a flush draw. The {4-Clubs} landed on the turn, giving Ivey his flush, but he still needed to dodge the river, as Holz could hit another club and make a higher flush.

The river was the {3-Diamonds}, and that gave Ivey the triple.

Tollerene Bets Flop and Turn

Nível 7 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Picking up the action on the {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} flop, Fedor Holz was in action against Ben Tollerene. After Holz checked, Tollerene bet 16,000. Holz made the call, and the {9-Spades} paired the board on the turn. Holz checked again, and Tollerene tossed out two green T25,000 chips. Holz folded, and Tollerene won the pot.

Greenwood Takes One in Position

Nível 7 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

For the second hand in a row, Fedor Holz opened the action with a raise to 14,000. He didn't get any action on the first, taking down the blinds and antes, but this time his early-position raise was called by Sam Greenwood on the button.

The flop came down {Q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Spades}, and Holz checked. From his stack of 106,000, Greenwood bet 18,000. Holz folded, and Greenwood won the pot.

Nível 7 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

From the cutoff seat, Connor Drinan opened with a raise to 15,000. Ben Tollerene reraised to 40,000 from the small blind, and then Drinan tanked for a little before bit he shoved all in for around 230,000. Tollerene folded, and Drinan won the pot.

Rough Start for McDonald

Nível 7 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Action folded to Mike "Timex" McDonald on the button and he raised to 15,000. Steve O'Dwyer defended the big blind and the two saw a flop of {9-Spades}{4-Clubs}{7-Spades}. O'Dwyer check-called a bet of 18,000, the dealer burned and turned the {10-Diamonds}, and McDonald bet 40,000 after his opponent checked.

O'Dwyer woke up with an all-in check-raise, and that did the trick as McDonald released his hand.

The Day 2 Seat Draw

Kaverman Leads Into Day 2 of the LK Boutique $250,000 Challenge

Byron Kaverman
Byron Kaverman

The final day of the 2016 Aussie Millions Poker Championship is upon us, and with that comes the final day of the LK Boutique $250,000 Challenge. After 15 entries were generated on Sunday's Day 1, 2015 Global Poker Index Player of the Year Byron Kaverman finished atop the advancing 12 players.

Kaverman bagged up 705,000 in chips. Most of Kaverman's chips came in a clash with Erik Seidel when the two got all the money in on the {9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop. Kaverman had the {J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for top pair and a flush draw, and Seidel had an overpair with the {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}. Because Seidel had the queen of diamonds in his hand, he was still a favorite, but it wasn't by much. According to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, Seidel was 54% to win the hand versus Kaverman's 45% chance. The {K-Hearts} on the turn kept Seidel in front, but the {A-Diamonds} on the river delivered Kaverman a flush.

Fedor Holz finished in second place, but he's in the event for two bullets thanks to an early elimination at the hands of Paul Newey. Holz went on to bag 440,500 in chips, and along the way he busted Jason Mercier with pocket nines. Mercier had the {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and couldn't find what he needed to stay alive.

Newey finish in third place on the leaderboard with 395,500 in chips.

Bringing up the rear was a player with no shortage of success in the LK Boutique $250,000 Challenge, Phil Ivey. Ivey wasn't exactly burning down the house on Day 1 this year, but he did advance to Day 2. He did get crippled on the last hand of the night by Steve O'Dwyer and will now only take 52,500 in chips into the final day of play. In the five previous times the LK Boutique $250,000 Challenge has been held, Ivey won three, and could make it three wins in a row if he claims victory this year. His other victory was in 2012.

With late registration and reentries open until the start of Day 2, the field size could increase a tick or two more. Right now, the prize pool stand at AU$3.675 million.

Day 2 of the LK Boutique $250,000 Challenge will commence at 2:30 p.m. local time on Monday — a day that also happens to be Ivey's 39th birthday. Stay tuned right here to PokerNews.com for continued coverage and check out our video interview with Ivey while you wait.
