Joining the action on the flop of , Hubert Stachowski in the small blind checked and Josep Maria Galindo Lopez in the cutoff bet 1,400. Stachowski check-raised to 3,400 and then faced a reraise to 12,000 before making it 42,000 to go.
Galindo Lopez moved all in and Stachowski called with an almost even stack.
Josep Maria Galindo Lopez:
Hubert Stachowski:
The turn and river completed the board and the stacks were counted. Galindo Lopez had 98,200 and his opponent slightly less to result in the first seat open for today.
Down to only 4,000 chips, 888poker ambassador Nicolau Villa-Lobos moved all in for 4,000 from the cutoff. Rembert Net in the big blind eventually called and the cards were tabled.
Nicolau Villa-Lobos:
Rembert Net:
The appeared in the window and the rest of the board came to give Villa-Lobos a sweat but ultimately the way to the rail.
The biggest stack at the table and the most aggressive player over on table 18 just clashed and it resulted in a huge pot. Juan Bautista Mecho Segarra raised to 1,700 from the cutoff and Josep Maria Galindo Lopez three-bet to 5,500, which Mecho Segarra called.
On the flop, Galindo Lopez bet 6,000 and called a raise to 18,000 before check-calling a bet worth 30,000 on the turn. The river completed the board and Galindo Lopez now bet for around 40,000. The size didn't matter much, as Mecho Segarra shoved for 80,000 and was snap-called.
Mecho Segarra turned over for the second nut flush only to see Galindo Lopez turn over for the nut flush.
Michael Mizrachi and William Kassouf have been eliminated, and the latter was sent to the rail in an epic hand against Ema Zajmovic.
Zajmovic opened and called the three-bet to 8,000 by Kassouf from one seat over. On the flop, Zajmovic checked and Kassouf bet 15,000, then started his usual speech play by also mentioning that "he had top pair and a redraw." Zajmovic wasn't taking the bait, but engaged in the table chat as well, then called with the words "I am curious and I have trust issues, that's a bad combination."
The fell on the turn and Zajmovic checked. Kassouf moved all in for 61,200 and Zajmovic snap-called.
Ema Zajmovic:
William Kassouf:
It was Zajmovic after all who had the redraw and found the perfect turn card, leaving Kassouf with a draw to a split pot only. The on the river was a blank and Kassouf headed to the rail.
With more than 100,000 in the middle, the board showed and Sergio Alonso Camunas checked out of the big blind. Peter Jaksland moved all in for 103,500 and Alonso Camunas called, then mucked his in disgust after Jaksland showed for the nut flush.
Just one hand later, Jaksland raised and Francois Evard shoved for 39,000 from one seat over. Once it folded back to the Dane, Jaksland quickly called.
Peter Jaksland:
Francois Evard:
The flop gave Jaksland top pair and Evard the nut flush draw. Both the turn and river changed nothing and Jaksland sent Evard to the rail.
Hampus Persson clashed with Kelly Kellner and check-raised all in after the flop. Kellner had the far bigger stack, but his was no good against Persson's . The turn and river completed the board and Persson doubled to more than the average stack with a full house, while the former big stack of Kellner melted some more.
Then, Ema Zajmovic raised to 5,300 and picked up two callers including Arturo Espuny Juarez in the small blind. Federico Cirillo moved all in for 43,100 in the big blind and Zajmovic called. One of the cold-callers folded, before Espuny Juarez moved all in for another 60,000 on top. Zajmovic snap-called with the biggest stack of the trio to put two players at risk.
Ema Zajmovic:
Federico Cirillo:
Arturo Espuny Juarez:
The board ran out and Cirillo more than tripled up, while Espuny Juarez joined the rail.
Bruno Politano raised from under the gun and Hubert Stachowski flat-called from two seats over. The action then reached Sergio Fernandez Bernal in the big blind and he made it 26,000 to go. Politano squeezed to 53,000 and Stachowski shoved for 63,300. Both opponents called and the flop fell . Fernandez Bernal moved all in and Politano quickly called.
Hubert Stachowski:
Bruno Politano:
Sergio Fernandez Berna:
The turn was an additonal sweat, and the river gave Fernandez Bernal the winning flush and a massive pot. The Spaniard doubled for another 138,900 through Politano, and the 888poker ambassador was left short.
On the three-way flop of , the action checked to Michael Matsioukkou and he bet 25,000. Patrik Antonius on the button and Sergi Escote in the big blind called and the fell on the turn. This time the action checked to Antonius and he moved all in for 68,000.
Both Escote and Matsioukkou called and Fraser MacIntyre said "good luck Sir" to Antonius, who replied with "thank you very much ... triple up?!" The river was checked and Escote tabled . Matsioukkou showed and Antonius was beat with as well to bust in the penultimate hand of the night.
After 10 levels of 45 minutes each, the 2017 888Live Poker Festival Barcelona €2,200 High Roller generated a total of 65 entries and 31 hopefuls bagged up chips. More than half of the field left the Casino Barcelona empty-handed and five players fired a second bullet, while Hubert Stachowski even bought in for a third time without advancing to the final day.
Sergi Escote ended up as the dominating chip leader with 811,000 and Ema Zajmovic described him as "terminator, he busted like eight players on this table" when the time for bagging and tagging came. Escote established a decent lead over second-placed Peter Jaksland (475,500) and Aleksei Istomin (441,000), while the two Scotsmen Fraser MacIntyre (426,000) and Gordon Huntly (405,000) round up the top five overnight. MacIntyre, CEO of MainEventTravel.com, arrived late and immediately more than doubled up in the very first hand in a three-way pot before cruising through the rest of the day.
888Live Rozvadov Main Event champion Catalin Pop advanced to Day 2 with a very healthy stack of 353,000 and Ema Zajmovic also made it through with more than average, claiming 238,500 to her name. Other notables that bagged up include Daragh Davey (158,000), Josep Maria Galindo Lopez (112,500), Guillem Cusco Bach (100,000) and Harcharan Dogra Dogra (100,000), while Kimmo Kurko (95,500) and Aku Joentausta 70,500) are among the short stacks.
888poker was represented by two ambassadors. Nicolau Villa-Lobos busted early in the day when he was all in short with jack-eight suited and didn't hols up against eight-five off suit. Bruno "Foster" Politano had a roller coaster day. The Brazilian lost a massive pot in a three-way all in with kings versus ace-queen suited and jack-ten suited, then doubled up his short stack twice and advanced to Day 2 with 114,500.
Among the big names and notables to fall on Day 2 were William Kassouf, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, Patrik Antonius, Sebastian Langrock, Kelly Kellner, 2016 November Niner Fernando Pons and local legend Sergio Alonso Camunas. Mizrachi joined half way through the day, at almost the same time as Antonius, and lasted all but one hour. Kassouf was sent to the rail in a memorable hand with Ema Zajmovic when he three-bet pocket queens preflop, bet a ten-high flop and jammed when a jack appeared on the turn, having claimed to have top pair and a redraw on the flop. Zajmovic called with exactly that combo, tabling king-queen suited for the nut straight and flush draw, and Kassouf's queens were no good anymore.
Patrik Antonius ran up a big stack until the end of level nine, but lost several pots in the last level of the night before falling in the second-last hand. On a three-way ace-high turn, he shoved with king-five suited for second pair and was called two ways. Sergi Escote eventually ended up as the winner with ace-jack for top pair and Antonius will have to re-enter for a share of the juicy prize pool.
All players that busted throughout the first 10 levels can still re-enter before the first card is dealt on Day 2 as of 5 p.m. local time at Casino Barcelona, and they will receive 20 big blinds worth when the action resumes at blinds of 2,500/5,000 with a running ante of 500.
The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor tom provide all the action until a winner is crowned, and Day 1a of the €500,000 guaranteed Main Event kicks off one hour later as of 6 p.m. local time.
