Westmorland Tops Day 1 in Event #10: €25,000 NLH Platinum High Roller; Martini Continues Hot Run

Nível 12 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

The most expensive tournament of the 2021 World Series of Poker Europe festival has concluded Day 1 and easily surpassed the €1 million guarantee at the King's Resort in Rozvadov. After 12 levels of 40 minutes each in Event #10: €25,000 NLH Platinum High Roller, a field of 52 entries was cut down to 33 survivors and the late registration and re-entry period remains open for high-stakes contenders from near and far.

A late surge in the final levels of the night propelled Jordan Westmorland to the top of the leaderboard by a wide margin as he increased his starting stack more than seven-fold. Two knockouts in the final two levels saw Westmorland's stack skyrocket to 3,715,000 and he has almost as many chips at his disposal as Julien Martini (2,240,000) and Johan Guilbert (1,845,000) have combined.

The Frenchman then entered the high-stakes contest and bagged up the second-biggest stack. Likewise, Italy's Andrea Ricci had a successful at the poker tables as he finished fourth in Event #5: €550 NLH COLOSSUS before running up a top 10 stack as well.

Notable casualties on Day 1 included the WSOP bracelet winners Armando D'Avanzo, Ole Schemion and Martin Kabrhel along with Elias Gutierrez, Tamas Adamszki, and Christopher Puetz. The rise of Westmorland culminated in the final two levels when he first knocked out Manuel Fritz in a set-over-set scenario and then won a big flip during the final hands of the night against fellow big stack Tom Vogelsang.

All those wishing to enter or re-enter the tournament can do so for the first two 40-minute levels on Day 2. The action is slated to get underway at noon local time with level 13 and blinds of 10,000/20,000 and a big blind ante of 20,000, which gives late entrants 25 big blinds when the cards go back in the air at King's Resort.

Even though the tournament was initially scheduled as a two-day event, it has been expanded to a third day as the final table will be streamed on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, on the PokerGO platform. The PokerNews live reporting team will be back to provide all the action until a winner has been crowned.

Ion Tabacaru
Ion Tabacaru

Dawid Smolka lost another big chunk of his stack, this time to Ivan Bryksin, and the next big clash on their table would follow shortly after. Sirzat Hissou check-raised to 125,000 out of the big blind and Ion Tabacaru called from an early position on the {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop. After the {q-Diamonds} turn, Hissou bet 375,000 and Tabacaru was sent into the tank.

"I think you have kings," Tabacaru mentioned in table chat, then mulled over his decision for another minute before calling it off.

Ion Tabacaru: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}
Sirzat Hissou: {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

The {j-Spades} river only improved Hissou to a full house as Tabacaru became the next casualty.

Puetz Eliminated by Vogelsang

Nível 5 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante
Christopher Puetz
Christopher Puetz

Christopher Puetz raised to 8,000 cutoff and was called by Tom Vogelsang in the small blind and Matas Cimbolas in the big blind. The {9-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop brought a bet worth 28,000 by Vogelsang and Puetz was the only caller. After the {6-Spades} turn, Vogelsang fired a hefty bet worth 150,000 and once more, Puetz stuck around.

The {2-Spades} river completed the board and Vogelsang moved all-in with the covering stack. Puetz asked for a count and then called it off to get shown the {a-Spades}{3-Spades} for the nut flush by the Dutchman. "So sick," he said in table chat and flipped over his {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} before heading out of the tournament area.

Roiter Left With Crumbs as Vogelsang Doubles

Nível 5 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante
Tom Vogelsang
Tom Vogelsang

Tom Vogelsang raised to 7,000 and Klemens Roiter defended out of the big blind. On a {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{8-Clubs} flop, Roiter opted for a bet worth 30,000 and Vogelsang raised to 75,000 for his opponent to call. Roiter then check-called the {a-Diamonds} turn for 110,000 and the {10-Diamonds} river completed the board.

Another bet by Roiter for 150,000 followed and Vogelsang jammed for 323,000 to get called. Vogelsang tabled the {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for a flush and Roiter was left with a chip and a chair as he only held {j-Clubs}{10-Spades}.

Roiter was all-in the next hand out of the small blind as Vogelsang raised and Christopher Puetz defended the big blind. Puetz check-called the {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop for 6,000 and the {8-Clubs} turn was checked through, as was the {4-Clubs} river. Roiter had the {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for the nut flush, which beat Puetz's {6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and the {a-Spades}{6-Spades} of Vogelsang.

Sirzat Hissou
Sirzat Hissou

Sirzat Hissou defended the big blind against a raise by Ion Tabacaru and check-raised the {q-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop from 5,000 to 13,000 for Tabacaru to call. The {6-Hearts} turn brought a check-call by Hissou for 13,000 and he then led the {6-Diamonds} river for 22,000. Tabacaru raised to 100,000 and that sent Hissou into the tank for around one minute, he then called.

"You win," Tabacaru said in table chat as he rolled over the {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. That was indeed no good as Hissou won the pot with {9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} for trips sixes.

Christopher Puetz
Christopher Puetz

Joni Jouhkimainen squeezed to 22,000 in the small blind and then faced a reraise to 50,000 by Christopher Puetz in the cutoff, which Jouhkimainen opted to call. The flop fell {9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{6-Spades} and Jouhkimainen check-called a bet worth 21,000. Both then checked the {8-Spades} turn and the {3-Spades} followed on the river.

Jouhkimainen checked once more and Puetz then bet 104,000. The Finn went into the tank and first sighed "aces, huh" before mulling over his decision once more.

"I have no clue and I should never take this long," Jouhkimainen added and eventually called to get shown the {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} by Puetz, which ended up as the winning hand.

Eelis Pärssinen
Eelis Pärssinen

Tamas Adamszki raised to 4,000 from under the gun and was called by Eelis Pärssinen in the hijack and Teun Mulder out of the big blind. The {k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop was checked to Adamszki and he bet 8,000, which only Pärssinen called. The {7-Clubs} turn brought another bet worth 31,000 and a call by Pärssinen as they then headed to the {q-Spades} river.

Adamszki then bet 40,000 and Pärssinen then raised to 175,000, which sent the Hungarian into a brief tank. He then called and prevailed with the {k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} for two pair as Pärssinen only had the {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} for the top pair.
