WSOP Chips

Many eyes will be on the star-studded field that is returning for Day 2 of Event #56: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'Em. The action is scheduled to get underway at 12:00 p.m. local time inside the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.

Nacho Barbero will lead the remaining 250 players to their seats with 230,300 chips in his bag. Not far behind him is another recognizable name in Juha Helppi who finished Day 1 with 193,200. David Coleman (205,200) and Carlos Chang (197,600) also had a strong first day and look to continue that through Day 2.

Matt Berkey (165,500), Michael Mizrachi (148,900), Olivier Busquet (144,000), Dietrich Fast (94,500), Ari Engel (91,100) and Dzmitry Urbanovich (47,600) will be among the other familiar faces to keep a close watch on throughout the day.

When the cards get in the air, they'll start with Level 11 at 600/1,200 blinds with a 200 ante. There will be a 15-minute break at the end of every two levels with a 60-minute dinner break at the end of the day's sixth level. Players will battle for 10 levels today and those remaining will bag and tag to return on Day 3.

Updated Stacks: Natasha Mercier Looks to Best Last Year's Third-Place Finish

Nível 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Natasha Mercier
Natasha Mercier

Natasha Mercier started the day with 24,400 chips and now sits on almost triple that amount after the first break of the day.

Mercier finished in third in this same event last year to earn herself $348,374 plus a husband! It was in this event that her now husband, Jason Mercier, proposed to her. Should she win this event this week, who knows what she will get this year!

While last year's finish was her best career cash, she came closer to winning a bracelet in 2015 when she finished as runner-up in Event #20: $1,500 No Limit Hold'em for $284,911, falling to Benjamin Zamani.

Look for Mercier to continue to go deep and building on her $1.1 million-plus career earnings.

David Coleman Climbs to the Top

Nível 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
David Coleman
David Coleman

Action folded around to Mustapha Kanit on the button and he raised it up to 4,500. David Coleman three-bet to 14,700 from the small blind and Kanit thought about it for a minute before deciding to call.

The flop came {q-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Coleman led out for 14,200. Kanit paused and tossed in some chips to call.

The turn was the {j-Spades}. Coleman wasted no time and slid forward a stack of orange chips worth 100,000, clearly putting Kanit to the test for his last 55,000 chips. Kanit went into the tank and decided to muck his hand.

Coleman has now built his stack up to 340,000 to put him at the top of the counts.

Kelly Minkin Finds a Double

Nível 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Kelly Minkin
Kelly Minkin

Keven Stammen raised to 4,500 from under the gun and action folded to Kelly Minkin in middle position. She thought for a full minute before announcing that she was all in for her last 33,100 chips. Stammen wasted no time and called.

Minkin was at risk but ahead with {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}, flipping with Stammen's {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}.

The flop came {j-Spades}{5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and Minkin was still ahead with two sixes. The turn was the {6-Clubs} and Minkin smiled and said, "That's a pretty good turn." The river was the insignificant {9-Clubs} and Minkin doubled up.

"I knew you weren't folding. I was hoping it was ace-king!" Minkin continued.

Mustapha Kanit Doubles Through Ronald Connor

Nível 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Mustapha Kanit
Mustapha Kanit

Ronald Connor raised to 5,200 from middle position and Adrian Attenborough called from the hijack. Mustapha Kanit was in the cutoff and moved all in for his last 44,700. Connor went into the tank for about a minute and decided to move all in for 49,800. Attenborough quickly got out of the way.

Kanit was at risk but ahead with {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}, up against Connor's {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} and Kanit doubled through, leaving Connor with just 5,100 chips.

As Kanit was stacking chips he smiled and looked over at chip leader David Coleman and said, "That was an important one. Now I need to win one from you and I'll be happy."

Matt Affleck Straightens Out to Eliminate Steven Tabb

Matt Affleck
Matt Affleck

Babak Badkoubei raised to 6,000 from the hijack and Matt Affleck called from the cutoff. Steven Tabb was in the big blind and moved all in for 46,800. Badkoubei thought for about a minute but eventually folded. Affleck asked for a count and decided to call.

Tabb was at risk and ahead with {a-}{q-}, up against Affleck's {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}.

The flop came {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and Affleck flopped a monster draw with outs to make a flush or a straight. The turn was the {7-Spades} to complete his straight, and the river was the {q-Clubs} to send Tabb to the rail.

Pierre Neuville
Pierre Neuville

Pierre Neuville raised to 6,500 from middle position and Dong Zhao called from the small blind.

The flop came {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and Zhao checked. Neuville bet 6,500 and Zhao check-raised to 17,500. Neuville asked how much and then put his glasses on and stood up to look at the board. He sat back down and called.

The turn was the {8-Hearts} and Zhao checked this time. Neuville paused for a moment and bet 17,000. Zhao called.

The river was the {6-Clubs} and both players checked. Zhao tabled {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for two pairs, nines and eights, but Neuville tabled {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for an ace-high flush and scooped the pot.

Helppi Makes a Big Call Near the Bubble

Nível 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Juha Helppi
Juha Helppi

The money bubble is just two eliminations away, and a big pot was brewing on table 719 just before the dinner break.

With about 100,000 in the middle, on a board reading {q-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, Jack Salter checked from the big blind and Juha Helppi bet 52,000 from the cutoff. Salter paused for a minute before moving all in, having Helppi covered by a lot. Helppi had 226,000 total, and had a big decision to make with the money bubble looming.

Helppi went into the tank for several minutes, clearly agonized by the decision. A crowd started to form as players headed on a dinner break. Salter remained still the entire time until Helppi finally called.

Salter gave Helppi a thumbs up and rapped the table, showing {5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} for two pair eights and fives. Helppi tabled {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a straight to the eight and raked in the massive pot.

Salter asked, "If I made it 150,000 would you have folded?" Helppi replied, "It would've been much easier to fold if you made it 150,000."

Cate Hall

On a board reading {j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades}, Cate Hall was in the big blind and all in for her last 38,000 chips. Simon Lam was in early position and gave her action.

Hall had the best of it with {j-Clubs}{10-Spades} and was at risk against Lam's {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.

The turn was the {q-Spades} and the river was the {a-Spades}, giving Hall a much-needed double up.

Help-pi!

Nível 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Juha Helppi
Juha Helppi

Andy Park limped in from the cutoff and Juha Helppi raised to 23,500 from the small blind. Claas Segebrecht was in the big blind and called for his last 18,500. Park went into the tank and took a sip of his coffee before deciding to call.

The flop came {k-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades} and Helppi decided to check. Park paused for a moment and bet 25,000. Helppi thought about his next move and decided to put in a check-raise to 50,000. Park grabbed his coffee again and took several slow sips before deciding to fold.

"Ace-queen of hearts one time?!" laughed Segebrecht as he tabled {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}. Unfortunately for him. Helppi tabled {k-Clubs}{q-Spades} for two pairs and he needed to hit one of the two remaining fours in the deck to survive. The turn was the {6-Spades} and the river was the {9-Spades}, sending Segebrecht to the rail.

Helppi now has a mountain of chips in front of him and appears to have the top stack for the moment.
