Vornicu Off to a Sharp Start Again

Nível 2 : 150/300, 25 ante

He reached a remarkable feat, bagging a back-to-back chip lead in WSOP bracelet events, and, to make it even more unbelievable, he did it in one day. While Valentin Vornicu couldn't squeeze more than $3,734 for 88th place from his great field position in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Event, he's yet to come back for Day 2 of THE GIANT, which is still several weeks away.

In the meantime, Vornicu has plenty opportunities to try stealing the headlines again. Well, he's doing his best in the $1,500 Stud Hi-Lo event. After being a little disappointed with a lack of reporters' attention until his outstanding performance on Day 1b of THE GIANT, Vornicu won't certainly fly under the radar at the 2017 WSOP anymore.

No matter what event is on the schedule, Valentin Vornicu has chips. Less than two levels into the stud hi-lo tournament, Vornicu is already guarding nearly three times as much than what he received when he sat down. He's playing roughly 20,000.

Another pot went his way a few moments ago, and here's how it unfolded:

Vornicu had the bring-in with the {3-Clubs} and a player with {A-Diamonds} completed. Another player called but he eventually laid down on the fourth street for just a cameo appearance. Vornicu also called.

Vornicu paired his threes right away but it was his opponent who bet. Vornicu led out on the fifth street, though, and both players placed in one bet on the sixth too. No bets were made on the seventh.

Valentin Vornicu: {X-}{X-} / {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{A-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Opponent: {X-}{X-} / {A-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{4-Hearts}

Vornicu showed {3-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{5-Hearts} for trips and his opponent couldn't compete with that.

Kurtzman Takes It on the Seventh

Nível 1 : 100/200, 25 ante
Eric Kurtzman (as seen in a previous event)
Eric Kurtzman (as seen in a previous event)

Eric Kurtzman has already came to the spotlight at the 2017 World Series of Poker, navigating to heads up in the $10,000 Razz Championship. While Kurtzman eventually fell shy of winning his first bracelet, losing his chip lead to James Obst, he's no stranger to success in stud hi-lo either.

Three years ago, Kurtzmanl landed in third place in this very event, finishing behind the winner Calvin Anderson and runner-up Joe Tehan.

Kurtzman is playing this year's edition too. He can be very happy with his start to the tournament, having already increased his stack to 11,500.

We caught him tangling with two opponents as all players were in for 300 on the third street. All of them remained in contention until the seventh, with one of Kurtzman's rivals betting on the fourth to receive two calls. Kurtzman paired his queens on his board on the fifth, and overtook the betting lead. He fired on all remaining streets, but his opponents called only on fifth and sixth. They both laid down on seventh, leaving the pot to Kurtzman.

Player one: {X-}{X-} / {A-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{5-Clubs} (folded on seventh street)
Player two: {X-}{X-} / {8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{3-Hearts} (folded on seventh street)
Kurtzman: {X-}{X-} / {8-Spades}{Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Kurtzman certainly liked to scoop a three-way pot, but his hand was even better than what his opponents may have thought. He turned over {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}{10-Spades} for a full house.

Hollywood Star James Woods Checked In

Nível 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

WSOP aficionado, Hollywood actor, and producer James Woods entered the tournament. Woods has notched 17 cashes from the World Series of Poker and WSOP Circuit throughout his poker career. While most of his cashes came in no-limit hold'em events, Woods has also made the money in different games. He is, however, yet to collect his first payday from any type of stud game.

Shack-Harris Chops a Three-Way Pot

Nível 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

Three players were in the pot on the sixth street, including Brandon Shack-Harris, a.k.a. Polar Bear. All players put in one bet and carried on to the seventh street where Shack-Harris closed the action, calling a bet to join the showdown.

Player one: {X-}{X-} / {5-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{4-Spades}{J-Hearts}
Player two: {X-}{X-} / {7-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Shack-Harris: {X-}{X-} / {8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

The first player turned over {2-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{7-Spades} for a seven-low while the other showed {A-}{K-}{6-} for a pair of aces. Shack-Harris took the high half of the pot after rolling over his {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}.

Bohlman Loses With Two Pair

Nível 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

There were two bets lying in front of Scott Bohlman and his opponent before the seventh street. Both players checked and Bolhman announced "tens up," but that wasn't enough. He received a quick response of "kings up" as Bohlman's opponent found kings in the hole.

Bohlman: {X-}{X-} / {10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} / {X-}
Opponent: {X-}{X-} / {4-Spades}{2-Spades}{4-Hearts}{A-Spades} / {X-} with {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{9-Spades} as his hole cards.
