Welcome to Day 1 of Event #26: $10,000 Razz Championship

The great game of making the worst hand in stud, colloquially referred to as razz, has a long and storied history at the World Series of Poker, and it's time to write the next chapter in the $10,000 Razz Championship starting today.

At 3 p.m., cards will be in the air for the first of three days of the Event #26: $10,000 Razz Championship, which will begin play in the Brasilia Room.

Last year in this event, noted mixed game player Ray Dehkharghani topped a field of 100 entrants for a first-place prize of $273,338. In the process, he denied Jason Mercier what would have been a second bracelet for the summer and, if events still unfolded afterward in the same fashion, would have made for three overall and a handsome windfall from his prop bets.

This year, there isn't likely to be quite that much excitement, but it's still a prestigious event along with all of the rest of the $10,000 Championships, and a stacked field is expected. Players will play out 10 one-hour levels, each starting with a stack of 50,000 with limits at 500/1,000 and progressing to 4,000/8,000 by day's end. There will be 15-minute breaks every two levels and no dinner break, so it'll be a long grind of wheel chasing.

Registration will end around midnight, after Level 8.
