Faraz Jaka ended Day 3 as the chip leader of Event #23: THE MARATHON - $2,620 No-Limit Hold'em with a stack of 2,838,000. Maurice Hawkins finished second with 2,423,000 and John Phan sits in third with 2,374,000. Fifty-six players are still in the running for the $690,469 top prize and the WSOP gold bracelet.
The day started with 268 players and 264 of those would be in the money. As expected, hand-for-hand play started quite quickly. There was only one all-in during the first hand of hand-for-hand play and Pascal Hartmann did not manage to stay in the tournament.
Maurice Hawkins had a strong start to the day and never really disappeared from the top of the chip counts. But Faraz Jaka really kept building his stack all day long. There are many other notables left in this field, including Ana Marquez (1,035,000), Upeshka De Silva (799,000), Eric Baldwin (617,000) and Kristen Bicknell (401,000).
Play resumes Thursday at 12 p.m. in the Brasilia room and is scheduled to play seven 100-minute levels again. The PokerNews live reporting team will be there to catch all the action so do come back to follow it all.
