There always seems to be that one player on Day 1 of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event who runs into a brutal cooler or bad beat to bust early. On Monday, Idan The One, who hails from Israel, was that player.

The 2023 WSOP Main Event kicked off at noon PT from inside Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. At the time this article was published, more than 800 players already registered for the first of four Day 1 starting flights.

Dunst Bluffs Into Broadway

Anton Suarez bet for 4,000 into a 12,000 pot on a board that read 2♣10♠8♦Q♣J♣. Tony Dunst was in the next seat over and was his adversary for the hand.

Dunst put out four T-5,000 chips for a raise to 20,000. Without letting much time pass, Suarez put in the call.

Dunst could only muster up a pair of tens with his A♣10♦, while Suarez was comfortably sitting on rivered Broadway with A♦K♥. He raked in the pot and is now nearing a six-figure stack.

There were two recent eliminations in the Gold section, first as Sam Snead Sweilem was eliminated holding QxJx against the A♣A♠ of Concetta Rinaldi-Sorscher on a board of 6♥3♠10x5xQ♠.

Across the room, Faraz Jaka was seen stacking up chips after his ace-king beat out pocket tens to send Tyler Matzen to the rail.

Elezra Forces a Fold

A player in middle position raised and was called directly behind by Eli Elezra and the player in the big blind.

The flop came Q♦5♣6♥ and it was checked to the original raiser, who bet 2,000. Both Elezra and the big blind called.

The 8♠ fell on the turn and the initial raiser bet again for 4,500. Elezra then raised to 10,500, which got a fold from the big blind but a call from the bettor.

Elezra's opponent checked to him on the 8♣ river and he tossed 25,000 into the middle. Elezra's opponent eventually folded after tanking for a while and the five-time bracelet winner collected the pot.

Kostyniuk Puts in a Big River Raise

There was a limp in early position and Jeffrey Kostyniuk raised to 1,400 from a couple of spots to the left. The action folded back around to the limper and he made the call.

When the Q♥10♣4♥ flop came, the limper check-called a continuation bet of 1,000 from Kostyniuk.

The 5♦ hit the turn and both players quickly checked to the J♣ river.

The player first to act bet 2,400 and Kostyniuk paused for a long moment, counting his stack before firing a raise of 13,000 into the middle. His opponent instantly mucked his hand.

Guerrero Pays Off A Straight Flush

With the 9♦10♥Q♥10♦8♥ board already completed, Jimmy Guerrero had 12,000 in front of him on the river and Giuseppe Iadisernia moved all in for around 22,000.

Guerrero was visibly unhappy about it but paid the bet off only to be shown J♥9♥ for a straight flush. Guerrero flashed the A♥ and an unknown other heart to indicate he had the nut flush.
