The 2023 World Series of Poker welcomes a second set of combatants today for Day 1b of Event #70: $400 The Colossus No-Limit Hold'em at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

An incredible 7,705 entrants graced the Day 1a flight, with only 962 players advancing to Day 2. Notable players that failed to advance included Marle Spragg, Allen Cunningham, and Ben Yu.

Players that did find a bag include Olga Iermolcheva (1,125,000) and Benjamin Spragg (623,000.) They both trail Day 1a chip leader Chengtzu Lai, who bagged an impressive 1,456,000. Players joining them on Day 2 will continue to play for their part of the massive prize pool and a WSOP bracelet.

Cards will be in the air at 10 a.m. local time. Players begin with 40,000 chips and blinds at 100/200 with a 200 big blind ante. Players will play for 17 levels of 40 minutes each and will receive a break every three levels. A 75-minute dinner break is scheduled after Level 12, which will come around 7 p.m. local time. Late registration will last until the end of Level 12 (about 8:15) and players will be allowed one reentry today if they have already busted.

Cabacas Finds a Straight for Early Chip Up

Action was caught after the turn of 56A4 and Eloy Cabacas checked from the big blind. Middle position checked to the button who led out for 1,500. Both remaining players made the call.

The river was the 10 and Cabacas checked to the middle position player. They fired for 3,200 and both other players called. Cabacas showed 73 to take the pot with a straight and to start the tournament with an early chip advantage.

Merwin's Aggression Pays Off

Three players called the big blind, then Hannah Merwin from the big blind bet for 900. All three remaining players called to the flop.

The flop came A73 and small blind checked to Merwin. She led out for 2,000 and only received a call from the small blind.

While the 10 peeled off on the turn, a quick check from the small blind led Merwin to fire for 5,000. Her opponent folded as she took down the pot to chip up.

"700 Isn't Enough" Richards Says While Kono Scoops the Pot

Five players called, then the button raised to 700. All five players continued to the flop and Connor Richards stated "700 isn't enough."

The flop came Q10K and the first five players checked around to the preflop aggressor. He led out for 1,000 and received a single call from Jonathan Kono in the big blind.

When the 9 peeled off on the turn, Kono fired for 1,200 and received a quick call.

The river was the 2 and Kono bet 2,000. His opponent made the call and showed QQ. Kono revealed AJ for the flopped Broadway to take the pot.

When the Q peeled off on the river, the middle position fired for 2,500. Zhao made the call to the river.

The river was the 4 and Zhao again checked. His opponent bet 7,000 and Zhao quickly made the call. His opponent showed A10, and Zhao revealed 95 to scoop the pot with a pair of nines.
