Doug Polk built his poker reputation on heads-up play. It’s where he’s most comfortable, staring at a single opponent directly across the table. And tomorrow, when the Final Four of Event #8: $25,000 Heads Up No-Limit Hold’em Championship begins at 4 p.m. local time, he can capture the one thing missing from his resume, the WSOP Heads Up bracelet.

Polk headlines the four remaining players who will gather on the main feature stage inside the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. He’ll be joined by Sean Winter, Chris Brewer, and Chanracy Khun, three opponents who have navigated through the grind of four heads-up matches to reach this stage.

Armbrust Enters the Wrong Tournament, Makes the Final Table

Nível 32 : Limits 150,000/300,000, 0 ante

It's become apparent that John Armbrust entered this event believing that it was a $1,500 No Limit Hold 'Em event.

He thought the field was small but assumed that was due to most players being in the field of the Mystery Bounty event.

Upon taking his seat at his Day 1 table, he realized play was eight-handed which he thought was strange but didn't think much of it. But by the time play had begun, he had realized his mistake but it was already too late.

A simple mistake led to a WSOP final table with a real shot a bracelet.

These are the stories that make the WSOP so special.

Armbrust Scores Double Up as Short Stack

Nível 32 : Limits 150,000/300,000, 0 ante

John Armbrust needed to double up his chips as the short stack at the table, and he found an opportunity in a battle of the blinds.

After action folded to Armbrust in the small blind, he moved all in with K3 against Vadim Shlez, who called while holding 75 in the big blind.

The board ran out K86 on the flop, giving Armbrust top pair. Shlez, though, flopped an open-ended straight draw to provide some anxiety for Armbrust.

The J on the turn and 3 on the river gave Armbrust the win, and some much-needed chips.

Vadim Shlez raised with KJ in the cutoff and action folded around to John Armbrust who three-bet from the big blind with AJ. Shlez called to see a flop of KK8.

Armbrust opted to bet and Shlez called to see the J turn card. Armbrust bet the last of his chips as Shlez quickly tossed in a call with Armbrust drawing dead headed to the river.

The hands were turned up and the dealer put the inconsequential 9 out on the river to make it official as what began as an accidental registration in the wrong event ends with a 5th place finish for $32,840.

Raul Celaya raised in early position with 66, and was called by Vadim Shlez, who held 33 in the small blind. The big blind folded, putting Celaya and Shlez heads up to the flop.

The dealer placed 73Q on the board, and Shlez checked bottom set. Celaya bet, but was promptly check-raised by Shlez.

“I don’t think you have the queen,” said Celaya, who made the call.

The turn produced 2, which Shlez bet.

Celaya went into deep thought, counting out his remaining chips and cracking jokes with the players at the table, before making the call. He saw the bad news knowing he was down to two outs when Shlez tabled his hand.

The river brought out 9, which sent Celaya to the rail in fourth place for $45,301.

Shlez Finds the Nuts on the River

Nível 32 : Limits 150,000/300,000, 0 ante

Vadim Shlez raised from the button holding 109 before facing a three-bet from Kerry Welsh in the small blind. Shlez called as the players headed to a J38 flop.

Welsh decided to bet into Shlez and was met with a quick call before the dealer put out the 6 on the turn.

Welsh opted to lead with a bet again and again, Shlez tossed in a call to see the Q hit the river.

Welsh checked to Shlez who tossed out a bet. Welsh called as Shlez quickly turned his cards up, revealing the nuts.

Upon seeing the bad news, Welsh dejectedly said, "Jesus Christ!" as Shlez dragged yet another pot as Welsh is left with just over one big bet.
