Reitzfield Takes Chips Before The Break

Nível 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

From under the gun, a player opened to 2,600. He was called twice: by Steve Reitzfeld in the cutoff and by Michael Thorpe in the hijack.

On 7AQ, the first player to act checked, giving the lead to Reitzfeld who put 3,000 chips in the middle. Thorpe gave up at this point, but not the under the gun player.

But when Reitzfeld fired out another bet of 15,000 on the turn J, the player under the gun seemed to have no choice but to fold and let the pot go to Reitzfeld, just a few minutes before the break.

Humberto Brenes in middle position bet 2,800 and was called by the cutoff and the big blind. Brenes continued on the A103 flop for 3,000. The cutoff folded but the big blind made the call.

Both players checked the 4 on the turn, but Brenes bet 5,000 on the 10 river. The big blind opted to fold and Costa Rica's all-time highest earner in tournament poker raked in the pot.

Middle Pair Takes The Pot

Nível 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

As in many previous hands, a player limped from the cutoff and was called by all players after him.

The dealer revealed a 754 flop, where all players checked to Gary Weeman on the button who bet 3,000. Both players in the blinds called to see the turn K. But from this point, all three players checked till the end, even with the J on the river.

The small blind had to show his cards first, but Weeman was faster and revealed 76 for a pair of sevens. It was the winning hand, as his opponents folded.

On the table to his left, Michael Thorpe is building a big stack of approximately 161,000 chips.

Negreanu Proposes Changes to the Poker Hall of Fame Induction Process

With its ever-growing backlog of deserving players and industry professionals waiting for their time to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame, some players are calling for changes to the nomination and induction process.

One of those players is Daniel Negreanu, poker's biggest ambassador and himself a member of the Poker Hall of Fame who was inducted in 2014. Negreanu has long called for overhauls to the Poker Hall of Fame nomination process and renewed his calls this week on his daily vlog during the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP).

"How I would fix the Hall of Fame is this: every single year, two players get in — players, not contributors," Negreanu told his vlog viewers. "Every single year, two players get in. Every third year ... we add an additional third person who is a contributor to the game. That would be the Isai Scheinbergs and the Matt Savages of the world. Every three years, one of them would get in. That way, we don't have to constantly compare apples to oranges."

Guitter's Stack Bigger Than Ever

Nível 7 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Christian Guittier
Christian Guittier

Chipleader of the Horseshoe part of the tournament before the dinner break, Christian Guittier extended his lead since to 280,000 chips. "I have a full house on every hand", he said to justify his stack.

And when he doesn't have a good hand, he still gets lucky. For example, he was in the small blind when the cutoff limped. The button did the same, so Guittier limped as well. But the big blind decided to raise to 3,000. The cutoff called, as did Guittier, but the button folded.

On the flop 723, the big blind continued with a bet of 4,000. The cutoff folded. And after ten seconds, Guittier also threw his cards into the muck too. It was a very good decision because the big blind showed pocket aces.

Sumner Doubles After Dinner Break

Nível 7 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante

Just a few minutes after the restart, Richard Sumner was at risk in middle position with less than 10,000 chips. When the button called his stack, he flipped his cards:

Richard Sumner: AK
Button: 99

No sweat for Sumner, who hit a king on the flop 5K42J, doubling his stack to 21,500.

On the very next hand, the big blind player wasn't at his seat. "He lost a big pot before the dinner break," said his neighbor. "And if he didn't come back, that's because he had only...500 chips left!" As he didn't show up, his full stack was used to pay the blind and went into the pot, leading to his elimination.
