Day 1 of Event #58 of the World Series of Poker, the $3,000 Limit Hold'em 6-Handed, has ended. After ten hour-long levels, 115 of the 263 entrants put their chips in their bags and progressed to Day 2.

"Am I one of the chip leaders?" asked Gregory Josephson while he was bagging his 241,000 chips. It seems like he is not only one of the top stacks but the biggest stack on the first day of the competition. He is one of the few players who have more than 200,000 chips. Daniel Maczuga (217,500) is also on this big stack list.

Justin Lapka (176,000) and JJ Liu (165,000) are also way above average. The same goes for six-time WSOP champion Michael Mizrachi, who filled his overnight chip bag with 163,000 chips.

Other notable players to look out for on Day 2 include Maria Ho (126,000) or Benny Glaser (83,000), and Japan's Ryutaro Suzuki (87,500). Almost all day long, the Japanese player had Eli Elezra on his left; Elezra comes back on June 26 with 52,500 chips.

Towards the bottom of the chip counts, we find players such as Joe McKeehen. The 2015 WSOP Main Event Champion will have 14 big blinds (34,500) at the restart on Day 2.

On the contrary, Day 1 wasn't successful for almost 150 players. The 2021 WSOP Champion Koray Aldemir didn't reach the end of the day. Neither did Kristen Foxen, Shimizu Nozomu, Robert Campbell, six-time WSOP bracelet winner Brian Hastings, or Pedro Marques.

The 115 remaining players come back on June 26, at 1:00 p.m. local time at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas for Day 2 of the event. They will restart on Level 11, with blinds of 1,500/2,500 and limits of 2,500/5,000. They will and play ten more levels, each lasting 60 minutes, before wrapping up.

The bubble should burst during those ten levels, as 40 players will be in the money, with a min-cash worth $4,837. The tournament director announced a total prize pool of $702,210, with a top prize of $165,250 for the champion, along with a prestigious bracelet.

A few hands after David Arsht doubled his stack on her, JJ Liu limped in the small blind and called the big blind's raise.

But on the flop 265, she check-raised. Not impressed, the big blind called. But when she bet again on the turn J, her opponent folded.

"JJ Liu Takes It Down Again", said a player at the table, laughing, after the hand. Thanks to this pot, JJ Liu increased her stack to 80,000 chips.

Event #58: $3,000 Limit Hold'em - Six Handed Kicks Off Today

Jeremy Ausmus
Jeremy Ausmus

It's that time of the 2023 World Series of Poker when a little old-school Limit Hold'em shows up on the schedule. Today, Event #58: $3,000 Limit Hold'em Six Handed kicks off and will take place over the next three days at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. In what used to be the most popular version of poker back in the day, has since faded out over the years but still creates a special buzz among some of the players.

Last year, this event attracted a total of 213 entries which created a prize pool of over $568,000. Jeremy Ausmus conquered the field of limit hold'em players, outlasting a tough Michael Rocco in heads-up play. At the time, it was the third WSOP gold bracelet for Ausmus but he has since gone on to win three more online bracelets. Ausmus also added another final table to his resume earlier this year in the $100,000 High Roller event where he pocketed $619,919 for fifth place.

This event will often attract many of the big names from the mixed games events who like to mix it up with some limit hold'em. Last year, the final table included the likes of Gabriel Ramos, Mike Lancaster, and Andrew "AJ" Kelsall. Shaun Deeb finished just shy of that mark in eighth place.

The cards are scheduled to go in the air at 2 p.m. local time with ten 60-minute levels on tap for Day 1. Each player will begin with a starting stack of 40,000 chips and the blinds will kick off at 200/300 with the limits at 300/600. There will be a 15-minute break after every two levels and no dinner break is scheduled for the opening day.

Late registration will remain open for eight levels, which is at approximately 11 p.m. The restart for Day 2 will be at 1 p.m. Monday and the WSOP gold bracelet will be handed out at the end of Day 3 Tuesday.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to bring you all of the updates throughout this event so keep it tuned in here to see who will become the next Limit Hold'em champion!
