Last year marked 11 years since PokerNews started publishing predictions ahead of the World Series of Poker (WSOP), and with three days to go they're back again ahead of the 2023 WSOP.

With the WSOP moving to its new home on the Las Vegas Strip at the Horseshoe and Paris, we asked nine members of the PokerNews team for their thoughts and predictions.

This year we spoke to Global Live Events Manager Shirley Ang, US Executive Editor and former WSOP bracelet winner Chad Holloway, Live Reporting Executive Matt Hansen, staff editors Matthew Pitt, Jon Sofen, Calum Grant and Connor Richards, and Community Manager Jesse Fullen.

Cole Downed by Jakovljevic; Final Break Underway

Nível 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Just before the break, Matthew Cole was all in for his last 7,000 with ace-queen and was up against his former foe Blagojce Jakovljevic who had a real hand this time around with pocket jacks. Cole was unable to improve and was eliminated.

The players have now been sent on their final 20-minute break, and when they return, they will play two more levels before bagging and tagging their stacks.

Jakovljevic Caught Speeding; Avoids a Ticket

Nível 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Matthew Cole opened to 2,000 and was called by the player on his direct left and another. Blagojce Jakovljevic then moved all in for 26,000 from the cutoff. Cole then put in a four-bet which folded out the remaining players.

Jakovljevic immediately indicated that his opponent had him, and the cards went on their backs.

Blagojce Jakovljevic: K2
Under-the-gun: 99

Jakovljevic paired his deuce on the QJ2 flop and then made two pair K turn before holding out to double following the 5 river.

"You're hard to get rid of," commented a tablemate.

Immediately after, Jakovljevic opened to 2,500 from the cutoff and was called by the small blind. The 876 flop checked through to the 9 turn, and the small blind check-called for 2,200. On the 5 river, the small blind checked again and Jakovljevic bet 15,100 into a pot of 11,400.

"I block jack-ten but I don't have a club," agonized the small blind before folding.

Despite the alleged blockers, Jakovljevic was kind enough to show that he had the straight with his J10.

Busted Flush Draw Over Busted Flush Draw

Nível 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

A player in an early position raised to 2,200 getting called in three spots.

To a board of 2K4 the original raisers' continuation bet of 3,500 weeded out all but one; Johnathon Gillian in the cutoff.

Both players see the turned A. Gillian calls down another bet of 5,500 and the river comes the A.

As the board pairs the action dies down and the river checks through. The original raiser tabled 87 while Gillian shows Q9. To the surprise of the table, two busted flush draws see queen high take down the pot.

After some thought, the action checked through again.

On the K river, Ausmus led for 7,000 and faced no resistance

Miracle River for Veliu Sends Weinlander to the Rail

Nível 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Alida Veliu
Alida Veliu

Thomas Hahne and Brandon Weinlander limped in from middle position before Alida Veliu made it 6,000 from the hijack. Hahne folded but Weinlander moved all in for around 17,000 and was snap-called by Veliu.

Brandon Weinlander: AA
Alida Veliu: KK

The J43 flop and J turn kept Weinlander ahead but the K spiked the river to give Veliu a full house and the checkmark for the hand. Veliu had Weinlander covered and she sent her opponent towards the exit.

Ahead, Behind and Ahead Again for Dodd

Nível 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

There was an open from middle position before Ryan Dodd three-bet from the button. Brendan Shiller then four-bet from the big blind, which pushed out the original raiser. Dodd then jammed for 74,400 and was quickly called by Shiller.

Ryan Dodd: QQ
Brendan Shiller: AK

Dodd was the slight favorite for the race, but Shiller paired up on the K105 flop. Dodd shook his head in disbelief until the Q turn gave him a set to take the lead. The 2 completed the board and confirmed the double for Dodd.

Opponent's Four-Bet Goes Straight Into Stokes' Pocket

Nível 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

A preflop confrontation brewed between a player in middle position and Jamin Stokes in the hijack. The battle climaxed as the original raiser four-bet to 15,300 and Stokes called going into a flop of Q8J.

The player in middle position slowed down their aggression as they checked and allowed Stokes to take the lead for 12,000. They called and headed to a turn.

The 2 saw another check from the player in middle position allowing Stokes to apply max pressure and shove all in for approximately 39,000. After minutes in the tank they chose to fold only to be seemingly pained as Stokes showed 1010!
