Gostisa Gets Paid on the River, Takes Lead over Aldemir

Rok Gostisa and the 2021 WSOP Main Event Champion Koray Aldemir bumped heads in a wild hand that gave Gostisa a sizable chip advantage.

After Gostisa called Aldemir's three-bet of 12,600, the flop came {5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Aldemir's 5,800 chip continuation bet was called after 30 seconds.

Following the {6-Diamonds} turn, Aldemir sat for over a minute before deciding to check. Gostisa responded with a bet of 8,500, which Aldemir called after another minute in the tank.

With the {10-Diamonds} on the river, Aldemir opted to lead for 4,000 - less than 10% of the pot. Gostisa came back with a 35,000 raise, which was snapped off by Aldemir.

Gostisa showed {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} and scooped the pot after Aldemir puffed his cheeks and showed the {j-Diamonds}.

Badziakouski Holds Commanding Lead over Tice

Mikita Badziakouski built up an early lead over Landon Tice through the first couple of levels. With around 15,000 already in the middle and the board reading {9-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, Badziakouski led out with a bet of 12,000. Tice called and the {5-Spades} hit the river.

Badziakouski thought for a minute before sliding out a stack of around 125,000. Tice, sitting with just over 80,000 chips, quickly dispatched his cards and Badziakouski continued to grow his lead.

At a nearby table, Jeremy Ausmus also came out victorious in his matchup with Pieter Aerts.

Bujtas First to Advance by Defeating Persson

Eric Persson was seen making his exit from the tournament as Laszlo Bujtas had won all the chips.

Persson had approximately 45,000 chips to start the final hand and held {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts} against Bujtas' {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}.

The rest of Persson's chips went in on the river on the {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{q-Hearts}{q-Spades}{2-Hearts} completed board, and Bujtas secured his entry into the second round with a full house.

Ivey Scoops Three-Bet Pot to Extend Lead over Puustinen

Phil Ivey continued to build his lead over online heads-up specialist Henri Puustinen, who reached the semi-finals in this event in 2021.

After Ivey's initial raise, Puustinen three-bet to 8,000. Ivey gave him the stare down before putting in the call.

The flop came {6-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. Following a 20-second wait, Puustinen checked over to Ivey who was happy to check back.

An {8-Clubs} on the turn did nothing for the action as both players decided to slowly go check-check.

Following the {a-Spades} on the river, the Finn checked his hand and Ivey chose to finally fire 15,000 in the middle. A minute went by before Puustinen opted to muck his cards.

Gonzales Pulls Ahead of Deeb

Shaun Deeb raised it up to 2,000 on the button and Matthew Gonzales three-bet to 7,300 from the big blind. Deeb called and the dealer fanned the flop of {k-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Spades}.

Both players knuckled the table and the {a-Spades} landed on the turn. Gonzales led out with a small bet of 1,700 and Deeb stuck around to see the {q-Clubs} on the river. Gonzales reached for a bet of 8,000 this time and Deeb instantly mucked, sending the pot to Gonzales.
