Former Minister Zehr Scoops a Big One

Nível 3 : 200/300, 300 ante
Jerry Zehr from an earlier event
Jerry Zehr from an earlier event

A player in the lojack limped and Jerry Zehr raised to 1,200 from the hijack. Both players in the blinds called, as did the original limper.

The flop came {a-Clubs}{5-Spades}{7-Spades} and action checked to Zehr, who continued for 2,300. The player in the big blind and lojack called.

It was checked to Zehr again on the {4-Hearts} turn and he bet 3,100. This time, only the player in the lojack called.

The {5-Hearts} completed the board and both players checked. Zehr tabled {a-Spades}{9-Hearts} and his opponent mucked — awarding the sizable pot to Zehr.

Zehr, a former minister, has been playing poker for over 20 years and hopes to shed the stigma associated with responsible gambling and Christianity.

"There is a stigma about poker that it's a sin," Zehr said. "I just don't think that's true. Jesus was about love and non-judgement."

Zehr is playing in his fourth WSOP Senior's Event and will be looking to make a deep run with his newly acquired chips.

Lucky River Helps Ward Get Knockout

Nível 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

Clifton Ward and two opponents saw a flop of {q-Hearts}{j-Spades}{10-Clubs}. A player bet around 3,000, Ward moved all in for 8,000, and the player on his immediate left called all in for less. The original better folded.

All-In Player: {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Clifton Ward: {k-Hearts}{10-Spades}

"Want to run it twice," Ward joked after seeing his opponent had flopped a straight. The {4-Spades} on the turn was harmless, but the {a-Spades} on the river gave Ward a higher straight and the knockout.

"I never put him on that hand. When he called, I figured he had ace-queen," Ward said after the eliminated player had made his exit.

"I Guess I'll Go All-In."

Nível 3 : 200/300, 300 ante

On the {10-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop Anthony Castro was facing a bet of 1,000. Castro looked like he was mulling it over in his head as he said, "Blinds are going up, I guess I'll go all-in."

Castro jammed his 6,300 total and his opponent put in the chips and said, "Uh, I guess I'll need to suck out."

Anthony Castro: {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

The opponent was going to need a running flush or straight to beat the flopped set of Castro but the {9-Spades} on the turn meant he was drawing dead. The {a-Diamonds} on the river was just a formality as Castro collected his double up.

O'Neill's Opponent Isn't a Believer

Nível 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

Vincent O'Neill and an opponent saw the turn on a board of {j-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. O'Neill, on the button, bet 10,000 and his opponent in early position moved all in for around 4,000 more.

O'Neill called with {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for top pair, while his opponent could only shrug and show {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}. The {q-Hearts} fell on the river and the all-in player made his exit.

"He just didn't believe you. I believed you before it even came out," a tablemate said.

Monasch Flops a Full House

Nível 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

On a {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{q-Spades} flop, Mark Monasch check-called a bet of 2,500 from his opponent.

Both players quickly checked the {10-Hearts} turn and as soon as the {8-Diamonds} landed on the river Monasch fired in a bet of 15,000.

The opponent took a bit of time and just as he announced he was folding both players agreed to show their hands. The opponent showed {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades} and Monasch tabled {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds} for a flopped full house.

Porter Doubles Back to Nearly Even

Nível 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

Rep Porter raised to 1,000 from under-the-gun and was called by a player in middle position and the player in the big blind.

Porter fired 1,200 into the middle when checked to on the {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop and only the big blind called.

The {5-Diamonds} fell on the turn and it was again checked to Porter, who bet 2,400. His opponent check-raised to 5,500 and Porter shoved for his remaining stack. His opponent called to put Porter at risk.

Rep Porter: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Big blind: {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

Porter was on the brink of elimination against his opponent's two pair, but the {k-Hearts} river improved Porter to a superior two pair and he doubled up.
