A player raised to 1,000 from early position. Adrian Mateos called in the hijack and the big blind completed the action with a call.

The flop came {a-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. The original raiser continued for a bet of 1,500 when it was checked to him. Mateos was the only player to call.

The turn card was the {q-Diamonds}. The player in early position led again with a bet of 4,000 and Mateos called.

The {a-Diamonds} fell on the river and the original raiser threw out a bet of 6,000. Mateos tanked before raising to put his opponent all-in. The opponent snap-called.

Original Raiser: {4-Clubs}{5-Clubs}
Adrian Mateos: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

The original raiser flopped a wheel but Mateos went runner-runner to river a full house to eliminate his opponent.

Welcome to Day 1 of Event #41: $2,500 Freezeout No-Limit Hold'em

Ivan Deyra
Ivan Deyra

There won't be any second chances when Day 1 of the Event #41: $2,500 Freezeout No-Limit Hold'em event begins at 11 a.m. today. Players will begin the tournament with a starting stack of 35,000 and only get one shot at winning a World Series of Poker bracelet.

There was a similar $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em event held in 2019 but it wasn't a freezeout meaning you can't reenter, which was won by France's Ivan Deyra for $380,090. That tournament attracted 671 entrants which created a prize pool of $1,811,700 and featured final table appearances from both Patrick Leonard and Andras Nemeth.

The plan for today is to play 17 40-minute levels, with a 20-minute break taking place after every three levels and Days 2-3 having 60-minute levels. There will be a 75-minute dinner break at approximately 5:40 p.m. also, at the conclusion of Level 9 late registration will be closed.

As always, the PokerNews team will be on hand to provide live updates and chip counts throughout the tournament.
