A Few Chip Counts

Nível 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Joseph Schulman, last year's ninth-place finisher in this event, is still hanging in with a 25-big-blind stack; WSOP bracelet winner John Esposito is doing the same with his 37-big-blind stack; and Scott Allacher is surging toward the top of the chip lead counts as Level 18 winds down.

"Triple Grammy Winner and I'm Just Losing"

Nível 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Tony Mercedes, who's produced some of the most well-known artists around, can't work his magic with the cards when fortune fails to smile. He's sat at another upbeat table, however, and grinding a short stack of 175,000 with the best of them. Tablemate Ali Zihni said of neighbour Alan Ho (sandwiched between Zihni and Mercedes), "He's a luckbox!" and no denial from Ho was forthcoming.

Everybody Wants a Shot at Layne Flack

Nível 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Layne Flack
Layne Flack

Layne Flack's presence is providing for a lively table at Pavilion Black #185.

Lance Tahata tripled up in a three-way hand against Flack and one other opponent, reraising for the last of his 90,000 chips on a flop of {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and getting calls from both the hijack, and Flack on the cutoff.

The turn came the {a-Clubs}, and the hijack bet 100,000, which Flack called. The river came the {j-Hearts}, each player put another 100,000 in the side pot, and both turned over {a-}{j-} to chop up the side chips. Tahata got the best of it, however, turning over {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and getting just about the best possible result from his all-in move.

Elsewhere at the same table, Ernie Gormaz said he took 200,000 off of Flack in an earlier pot, with his {q-}{q-} taking down {k-}{k-} when a queen hit on the flop for a set. Gormaz noted that Flack played the hand well and lost the "bare minimum."

Robert Jennings Busts in Two Hands

Nível 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Mark Kroon
Mark Kroon

Robert Jennings was down to dust and all in for what looked like 20,000 vs. early position opener (and giant stack) Mark Kroon, who declared he was "super live" with {9-Diamonds}{10-Spades} vs. Jennings' {k-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}.

The board ran out {6-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}...{8-Hearts} and Kroon said, "It's usually the river, the nine."

In fact it was the {7-Clubs}, equally final for Jennings as it brought in Kroon's gutshot.

We were informed that the major damage to Jennings' stack occurred just prior, however, with Mansour Alipourfard the beneficiary. According to railside sources, Alipourfard had five-bet ace-six off-suit and spiked a six to double through Jennings, leaving the latter in auto-all-in-mode.

Chuldjian Wins Massive Pot

Nível 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Avedres Chuldjian just surged to the top of the chip leader board, winning a four-way pot that eliminated one player and took away most of Louise Francoeur's chips.

Chuldjian held {j-Spades}{j-Spades} on a runout of {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}, with Francoeur showing {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. Chuldjian was all-in for 496,000 chips and more than doubled up.
