With 1,000 in the pot, three players made it to the flop where Bradley Smith checked from the small blind. Jeff Madsen checked from under the gun and the third player fired 1,000. Smith responded with a check-raise to 3,400 and Madsen paused for a while before leaving the contest. Smith's raise had just covered the third players' stack and he called for the rest so the cards were turned up.
