Wolff Defeats Li

Nível 1 : 200/300, 0 ante

George Wolff has become the first player to win his play-in match after defeating Yingui Li. It was a result of two big pots that saw Li's stack reduced to zero.

In the first hand, Wolff opened and called a three-bet from 800 to 2,700 and Wolff called. On the {a-Spades}{9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop, Li continued for 1,700 and picked up a call before firing another 7,000 on the {7-Diamonds} turn. Wolff reluctantly called and Li then bet the {8-Clubs} river for 20,000. This time, Wolff instantly called and Li showed {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for turned two pair.

Wolff had that beat with {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} for rivered two pair.

Soon after, both players flopped trips eights and Wolff had the best of it with {k-}{8-} versus {10-}{8-}, even filling up to a full house.

Boivin and Polk Off to Early Leads

Nível 1 : 200/300, 0 ante

There are a couple of marquee matchups over on Table 418 with Doug Polk making his return to the felt for the first time in what seems to be forever. Polk is facing off against 4x bracelet winner Joe Cada while Chance Kornuth and Thomas Boivin are duking it out on the opposite side of the table.

Boivin raised to 700 on the button and Kornuth called to see a flop of {q-Hearts}{j-Spades}{5-Hearts}. Kornuth check-called a bet of 500 from Boivin and the {q-Clubs} hit the turn. Kornuth led out for 700 this time and Boivin called.

The river brought the {a-Hearts} which shut down Kornuth as he tapped the table this time. Boivin made a large bet of 4,000 and Kornuth tossed his cards to the muck.

Morgenstern Defeats Gonzales

Nível 2 : 200/400, 0 ante

The second player to advance to the official bracket through the play in round is Anton Morgenstern. Matthew Gonzales was standing up from the seat and a floorman arrived to fill out all the paperwork.

According to Morgenstern, it was two big hands that brought him to victory. He first called a three-bet to 3,700 with {10-Spades}{8-Spades} and saw a {k-}{8-}{5-} flop, on which he called a bet of 2,400 by Gonzales. On the {8-} turn, Gonzales check-called a bet of 9,600 and did so again for 21,000 on the {4-} river.

In the second level of play, it was yet another three-bet pot and Morgenstern flopped top pair with {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs} on {q-}{j-}{5-} with one club. Gonzales check-called a bet of 4,000 and jammed the {9-Clubs} turn for 15,000 with {a-}{10-}. The river was a blank and that sent Morgenstern through.

Who's Got the Bigger Boat?

Nível 2 : 200/400, 0 ante

Timothy Tenpas was standing up from his seat taking a picture, while all of the cards were face up and all the chips were in the middle. The board read {7-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and Tenpas had {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} sitting in front of him. Unfortunately for him, Patrick Leonard tabled {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} for the larger full house.

Leonard was all in for 39,200 before securing the double. Tenpas said "Good game" to Leonard but he was still left with a reasonable stack of 26,200, plenty to work with going forward.

Martini Starts Rough; Doubles Through Epstein

Nível 3 : 300/600, 0 ante

The early stage of the heads-up duel of Short Deck Bracelet winner Alex Epstein and Julien Martini was dominated by the former, as Martini quickly saw his stack reduced. They just clashed with Martini at risk on a turn of {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}{7-Hearts}{k-Clubs} with 16,000 in the middle.

Epstein had pushed all in and Martini shook his head. "I think I have the best hand right now," the Frenchman said and took another minute before making the call.

Alex Epstein: {8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Julien Martini: {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

Two draws got it in and Martini was the player that improved with the superior hand heading into the showdown, as the {a-Diamonds} river gave the Frenchman a straight and the double for 29,400.
