Valerstein Eliminates Zarin

Nível 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante
Roman Valerstein
Roman Valerstein

Roman Valerstein opened for 5,000 on the button and Jonathan Zarin made it 15,000 in the big blind. Valerstein peeled to see {9-Clubs}{2-Spades}{7-Spades} flop. Zarin bet 10,000 and Valerstein called. The turn brought a {q-Hearts} and Zarin jammed for about 20,000. Valerstein called quickly with {a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for queens up. Zarin had {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and needed a spade river. It didn't come as the {6-Clubs} hit.

"I guess I should have just potted the flop and you might have folded," he said. "I was trying to make myself look stronger by betting smaller."

Ivey Takes from Schwartz

Nível 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Phil Ivey took his seat on Table 445 and he's already increased his stack after tangling with Noah Schwartz in a battle of blinds that saw Schwartz limp and Ivey raise to 6,000.

Schwartz called to see the {J-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{9-Spades} fall on the flop and checked to Ivey who bet the maximum. Schwartz called the 12,000-bet and the {10-Hearts} turn and {3-Hearts} river were checked by both players.

Schwartz turned up {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for aces and tens but Ivey had the winner with {Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}.

Vieira Runs into Former Champ's Blades

Nível 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante
Lee Watkinson
Lee Watkinson

Joao Vieira was one of the dozens of players who arrived today to receive a starting stack and try to work with 25 big blinds. Vieira's tournament experience was, however, cut to just 40 minutes.

He lost almost all his chips when he three-bet over a 5,200-raise from the hijack, making it 17,600 on the button. Lee Watkinson acted next and jammed for his last 33,600 and the hijack got out of the way. Vieira visibly didn't like the spot he ended up in, but he had to make the call.

Vieira: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}{3-Clubs}
Watkinson: {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{6-Spades}

The board ran {10-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Spades}{6-Hearts}, securing a safe double for the 2006 champion of this very event. Vieira left his chair but the table informed him that he had some chips left.

Vieira returned to his seat and put his 4,200 in play with kings. He ran into a flush and while he hit a set on the turn, the river card was a brick and Vieira finally left his table.

Wong Bet-Three-Bets

Nível 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Jerry Wong bet 14,000 from middle position on {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{j-Hearts} and the big blind made it 35,000 to go. Wong thought awhile and set him in for his last 14,000. The big blind thought briefly and then decided to preserve his remaining crumbs.

Drinan Can't Convince Himself to Continue

Nível 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

With the turn reading {5-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{7-Spades}, Joe Hachem was in the cutoff, betting what looked like a pot-sized bet of 43,500. Hachem had only about 20,000 more left in front of him and the action was on his left-hand neighbor Connor Drinan who had Hachem covered by a few big blinds.

Drinan spent a good amount of time tanking. A few minutes later, Hachem himself called the clock and the floor person gave Drinan 30 seconds. Drinan leant forward one more time and checked the situation but he was eventually able to release his hand before the verbal 10-second countdown.

Michael Mizrachi Forced to Fold

Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

We found Norbert Szecsi in middle position with 12,000 in front of him on {k-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. Eric Rabl had made it 50,000 on the button and Michael Mizrachi had called in the big blind, though there was no way to tell if he had bet initially or cold-called. The turn was the {5-Spades}. Mizrachi tanked about a minute and checked, and Rabl snap-potted. It was just under 130,000 and Mizrachi folded in short order.

Tough Start for Rast

Nível 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Brian Rast was among the players who entered straight into Day 2. Unfortunately for the 2018 NL Single Draw Championship bracelet winner, his first minutes in the PLO Championship weren't the best he's had at the tables this summer.

Rast was seen on the river of the {A-}{2-}{6-}{K-}{6-} board, sitting in a middle position and facing a bet of 15,000 from big blind Xuedong Li. Rast tossed in calling chips but mucked when Li showed him {5-}{3-}{2-}{2-} for a baby full house. Rast is still playing roughly 11 bigs.

Nevanlinna Doesn't Bite the Check-Raise

Nível 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

On a flop of {9-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}, Jussi Nevanlinna bet into the 15,000 chip pot out of the cutoff. He was up against two players in the blinds and small blind Michael Banducci check-raised to 13,000. The action returned to Nevanlinna who asked his opponent how much he had left and then fired back, three-betting to 35,000. A snap-fold followed and Nevanlinna raked in the pot.

Quick Exit for Kruk

Nível 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Christopher Kruk looked to be one of the late registering players but he was getting out of his seat when we got to his table, with Rob Mizrachi sweeping up his chips. It looked like Kruk got it in with {a-}{k-}{j-}{10-} against {a-}{a-}{8-}{2-}, with Mizrachi making aces full on the river.
