Welcome to Day 3 of Event #32: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Seniors Championship

Frank Berry
Frank Berry

Day 3 of the record-breaking Event #32 $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Seniors Championship is set to begin at 11 a.m. within the Amazon room at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino with Ronald Bishop (1,086,000), returning as the chip leader after being only one of two players to bag up over a million at the end of Day 2.

Frank Berry (1,017,000) will be his closest challenger out of the returning 101 when play gets underway with Bill Stabler (808,000), Marc Lome (756,000), and Richard Munro (739,000) all in the chasing pack.

The oldest player in the Day 2 field was Andreas Dassopoulos at the age of 83, and he will also be the oldest player to make Day 3 after he progressed with a chip stack of 145,000. Another player who will be back to fight for a place at the final table will be Larry Wright after he built three big blinds into a bag worth 204,000 yesterday.

The field has been cut dramatically over the last two days after a record crowd of 5,919 came together to create a prize pool worth $5,327,100 and a first place prize of $662,983. All returning players are guaranteed a payout of at least $4,345, with just two more eliminations needed before the money jump to $5,063.

The play is scheduled to be completed when a winner is crowned today, but due to the size of the field, it is likely that ten 60-minute levels will be played or down to the final table, whichever comes latest. Blinds will start at 5,000/10,000/1000 ante, and the average chip stack is 29 big blinds. A 15-minute break takes place after every two levels with a 60-minute dinner break after the sixth level at approximately 5:30 p.m.

William Wilkinson had Jeffrey Miller, and Stephen Roselius covered when all three players were all in for a pot worth 1.7 million.

William Wilkinson: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Stephen Roselius: {a-}{q-Clubs}
Jeffrey Miller: {10-}{10-}

The flop and turn came down all low cards, and Miller was set for a triple up, but when the river was revealed to be an ace, Wilkinson won both the main and side pots to send both players to the rail and become the new chip leader in the process.

Keith Clarke's stack was being counted with all the chips in the middle, the completed board down and the player's hands on their backs.

Dennis Otto: {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}

Board: {6-Spades}{j-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}

Clarke had flopped a set, but Otto took the lead on the turn when he hit a straight, and held on the river to propel himself near the top of the chip counts, while Clarke was left short-stacked.

Nielson Loses Set Over Set

Nível 23 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Allen Nielson
Allen Nielson

Three-way to the flop of {3-Hearts}{2-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, Allen Nielson moved all in and Marty Gorenc re-shoved. The third opponent in the pot was put to a tough decision and was thinking out loud on what move he should make. He folded to reveal {5-}{6-} for top pair and Neilson, and Gorenc flipped over their hands.

Allen Nielson: {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}
Marty Gorenc: {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}

Turn: {a-Hearts}
River: {6-Clubs}

Neilson had a set of threes, but Gorenc's pocket sixes did have outs, and by the river, he hit one of these outs to secure the pot with a higher set of sixes. It was a very unfortunate hand for Neilson, who exited the event with a payout of $10,128.

Hamilton-Hill Wins 1.5M-Chip Pot

Nível 24 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Scott Hamilton-Hill
Scott Hamilton-Hill

Scott Hamilton-Hill and James Nelson had very similar stack sizes, around the 750,000 mark, when they both got it all in preflop for what turned out to be one of the biggest pots of the day.

Scott Hamilton-Hill: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
James Nelson: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Board: {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}

Nelson was in bad shape and needed to find help from the board, but it didn't come, and he was left with just 55,000. Hamilton-Hill, on the other hand, clawed in the 1.5million chip pot to move him into the top chip counts region.

In the very next hand, Nelson was all in again, but able to find a double to give himself some hope after the break.

Nível 26 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Rachel Delatorre
Rachel Delatorre

Rachel Delatorre raised to 100,000 from the cutoff and Kendale Limahai shoved in the small blind. Colin Burton did the same with the shorter stack. Delatorre had them both covered and asked for a count. The dealer confirmed Burton's stack (even though he had the shorter stack) and she called.

Colin Burton: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
Kendale Limahai: {4-Clubs}{4-Spades}
Rachel Delatorre: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}

The board ran out {6-Clubs}{j-Spades}{3-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{a-Spades} for Delatorre to hit her queen on the turn and the ace on the river to take both of her opponents out of the tournament.
