Are You a Stud? Time to Test Your Skills in Seven Card Stud!
Welcome back to the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino and the 2018 World Series of Poker for Day 1 of the Event #31: $1,500 Seven Card Stud!
Stud tournaments, especially stud-high like this one, date all the way back to the second ever WSOP in May of 1971. Originally one of the games of choice for both cash games and tournaments, stud has paved the way for a wide variety of variants that we still see played all around the world today.
Many of the games greats have won stud tournaments, from Doyle Brunson to Chip Reese, and to Phil Ivey who won this very event back in 2002. Last year however, would see one of the WSOP regulars in Tom Koral break through to collect his first WSOP gold bracelet when he defeated Tsong Lin heads-up for the $96,907 first prize.
Taking a look at the previous nine years worth of results in this event sees the list of winners read like a poker honor roll with players definitely destined for the Poker Hall of Fame. For Eli Elezra, David Chiu, Andy Bloch, and Jeff Lisandro, years of experience have crafted their stud game skills, while Koral, Shaun Deeb, Eric Buchman, and Eugene Katchalov have always been players to fear when they take a seat at a table. This list alone proves that stud is still one of the most skillful and tricky mixed games out there that rely on a sound knowledge of mathematics and odds, hand-reading ability, and just an ounce or two of luck.
