Kassela Leaves Griffin Short

After the first draw, Ashton Griffin bet and called two bets from Frank Kassela. Both drew one and Griffin check-called, drawing one, while Kassela stood pat.

Both players checked and Kassela tabled a {10-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-} to win the pot.

Griffin was left with just 300 but more than quadrupled up the next hand.

Turner Turns Up the Aggression

On the first draw, the under-the-gun player patted with Jon Turner drawing one. The player bet and then called a raise from Turner and they both chose to pat. Turner again raised it to two bets when led into and the under-the-gun player called once more.

On the third draw, both players patted, the under-the-gun player again bet-called a raise from Turner.

Turner tabled {8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-} which was good enough to scoop a healthy pot and Turner climbed to around double the starting stack.

Taylor's "A Three-Betting Machine"

Thomas Taylor recently moved to a new table and has already been given a nickname.

Phil Hui made it two bets on the button and Taylor pumped it up the three-bets out of the big blind.

"You're a three-betting machine," said one of Taylor's new tablemates.

Taylor smiled as Hui made the call. Both players drew one and Taylor bet. Hui called to see Taylor stand pat. Hui drew one and called a bet once again.

Taylor remained pat and Hui drew one. Taylor fired one last bet and Hui quickly released.

Ospina Gains a Little Back

Daniel Ospina has already claimed his first World Series of Poker bracelet this year in winning the first $1,500 NL Single-Draw tournament for $87,678. The Columbian entered Day 1 hoping for another deep run with the few first few hands not going his way.

Ospina made it two bets from the small blind with the big blind defending, Ospina patted with the big blind drawing three. Ospina then bet and the big blind quickly folded awarding Ospina the needed chips.

Kassela Bets His Way to a Win

Frank Kassela made it two bets on the button and the player in the big blind called. They both drew two cards and the player in the big blind check-called a bet from Kassela as the two players each drew one on the second draw.

The big blind again check-called a bet from Kassela and drew one on the third draw with Kassela patting.

The player checked and Kassela bet once more and the big blind released his hand into the muck.

Alexander Immediately into the Action

James Alexander has had a pretty decent run in 2-7 events thus far at the 2018 World Series of Poker. Alexander first went deep in the $1,500 NL 2-7 SIngle Draw event, finishing fifth for $17,494.

The Texas native then followed that up with an even better run in the $10,000 installment which played out late Wednesday morning. Alexander placed fourth in the Championship event cashing for $81,986.

Alexander is back in the action this evening and immediately tangled with David "ODB" Baker.

ODB opened to two bets and Alexander defended his big blind. Both drew two and Alexander check-called a bet from Baker. Alexander drew two once more while Baker drew one.

Another check-call saw Alexander draw one last card and Baker patted. Alexander check-raised Baker this time and Baker called to see Alexander open an {8-}{7-}{6-}{4-}{3-} to claim the pot.

Hui Rakes in Another

The player in the hijack made it two bets with Phil Hui calling on the button and the player in the big blind coming along as well. The three players all drew two and it checked through.

On the second draw the big blind drew two saying "OK two, two and two" indicating for his opponents to continue to draw, the hijack and Hui both obliged and drew two as well.

The player in the big blind bet and Hui was the only caller. The two players then each drew one with the action going check-check.

Hui tentatively flipped over a {j-} as his lowest card and the big blind turned over a {q-}, Hui then revealed his entire hand of {j-}{7-}{4-}{3-}{2-} and the big blind mucked and Hui is one of the top stacks in the room as Day 1 moves along.
