Finstein vs. McNatt for 1.75 Million Pot

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Michael Finstein
Michael Finstein

A massive hand just played out over at Table 364 between Michael Finstein and Rocky McNatt.

By the time we arrived at the table, there was already 700,000 in the pot and a board reading {3-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}. Action was on Finstein, a Las Vegas local, and he announced that he was all in for his last 434,000. McNatt, who hails from El Dorado, California, barely had him covered and thought for about 15 seconds before making the call.

Finstein rolled over the {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} for tens full of nines and McNatt was left shaking his head as he showed the {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} for nines full of kings.

"The nine murdered me," McNatt lamented. "If the nine didn't come I can probably get away from it. Nice hand."

Finstein doubled into the chip lead while McNatt would go on to lose the rest of his chips a couple of hands later.

Benger Busts Tran in Seven-Figure Pot

Nível 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Griffin Benger
Griffin Benger

Just as most of the field headed to the hallways for the break, the following hand went down in the corner of the orange section in the Amazon Room.

From early position, Mark Herm raised to 10,500. Next to act was Alex Tran, and he flat-called before action folded over to Griffin Benger in the cutoff seat. He called, and then Roman Valerstein reraised to 40,000 on the button. After the blinds folded, action was back on Herm and he thought for a bit before folding. Then, Tran stuck in the call, and Benger also called as the cameras began to swarm the table — and good thing they did because the following flop play resulted in a massive clash of chips.

The flop came out {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}, and Tran checked. Benger also checked, and then Valerstein fired 58,000. Tran thought for a minute or so, counted out the 58,000 for the call, thought for a little bit longer, then slid the call forward. Benger had other things in mind, though.

Benger counted out more than just a call, sliding out 152,000. Valerstein quickly ducked out of the way, but Tran went back into the tank. Eventually, Tran announced that he was all in — a total shove of 418,500 after the dealer broke it down to Benger's request. Benger stood up and made the call, having Tran covered, but putting a large portion of his stack on the line.

Tran turned over the {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}, but he was behind the {A-Spades}{9-Spades} for Benger.

With top two pair and needing to hold, Benger was forced to sweat a bit more after the {5-Hearts} landed on the turn to give Tran a flush draw.

"Not impressed with that one," he said after the dealer added fourth street.

The river completed the board with the {5-Spades}, missing Tran and giving Benger the pot. Benger had Tran covered, sending him to the rail, and moving Benger to nearly 1.3 million in chips.

Break Time; Level 16 Ends, Smith Soars and We're In the Money!

Nível 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Dan Smith leads the field
Dan Smith leads the field

Level 16 of the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event is in the books! Players are currently taking their second 20-minute break of the day.

The level began just ten eliminations away from the money and as always, the bubble of the largest tournament of the year was quite the dramatic procedure. Players like five-time bracelet winner Allen Cunningham and Barry Hutter were eliminated from play just shy of making the money. After the field went hand-for-hand, five tables around the Amazon room had hands that involved an all in and a call. Three of the fives hands eliminated players from the field, officially putting everyone remaining in their seats in the money and guaranteeing a payday of at least $18,406.

On the first bubble hand, John Dwyer ran a full house into November Niner Mark Newhouse's quad fives. Zhen Cai followed Dwyer out the door, unable to improve with pocket queens against Darren Keyes' pocket aces. Finally, Kori Hunter's pocket aces were cracked by Harry Kaczka's nine-eight which made two pair. All three of these players made $6,135 and Chai won a high card for a free seat in next year's Main Event.

Meanwhile, Dan Smith won a massive pot against Stephen Graner to take the chip lead just before hand-for-hand play began. Smith continued his domination and increased his lead as the level progressed.

Ronnie Bardah set a record this level by making the money in five straight WSOP Main Events. You can read more about Bardah's incredible accomplishment here.

During the break, be sure to check out this video where our very own Sarah Grant caught up with last year's bubble boy, Farzad Bonyadi. Bonyadi made it through the bubble this year and is guaranteed a cash moving forward.

It has also been announced that dinner will take place at the end of Level 17 or approximately 6:10 p.m.

Angel Guillen
Angel Guillen

Angel Guillen just moved all in from the cutoff for his final 65,000 chips and Adrey Grenko, on the button, called.

Guillen showed {A-}{10-} and his opponent tabled {A-}{K-}.

"He flopped a straight," Guillen said as he was collecting his belongings after being knocked out.

"I was card dead for 15 hours," the Mexican bracelet winner added, as he was disappointed with being knocked out but perhaps a little pleased with still being able to make the money.

Van Hoof's Kings Hold Up

Nível 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Jorryt van Hoof on Day 2
Jorryt van Hoof on Day 2

Dutch pot-limit omaha specialist Jorryt 'TheCleaner11' van Hoof just found himself a big double up after the bubble.

Van Hoof raised to 12,000 under the gun plus two and the action folded to Rodney Doran who three-bet from the small blind to 26,000. The big blind tanked for a while and folded after which the action was back on Van Hoof.

Van Hoof tanked for a bit but eventually he moved all in for 168,000 total.

Doran stared into the distance for quite some time before putting in the call risking most of his own chips.

Van Hoof: {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}
Doran: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

"I folded ace-queen suited!" the player in the small blind yelled, much to Van Hoof's liking.

The board ran out {7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} and since neither player had diamonds the pot was awarded to Van Hoof.

Bardah Sets New Main Event Record, Then Busts Cloutier

Nível 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Ronnie Bardah with his 5th consecutive Main Event cash
Ronnie Bardah with his 5th consecutive Main Event cash

With a cash in the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event, Ronnie Bardah has set a new record. Previously, Bardah shared the record for most consecutive cashes of four with Robert Turner (1991-1994), Bo Sehlstedt (2004-2007), Theodore Park (2005-2008), Chris Overgard (2007-2010), Chris Bjorin (2008-2011), and Christian Harder (2010-2013).

Now, Bardah stands alone as he just earned his fifth Main Event cash in a row.

Bardah, winner of the 2012 $2,500 Six-Handed Limit Hold'em event, began his cash streak in 2010. That year, Bardah finished 24th out of 7,319 players for $317,161. In 2011, he placed 453rd for $27,103 from a field of 6,865. In 2012, Bardah finished in 540th place out of 6,598 for $21,707, and in 2013 he placed 124th out of 6,352 for $50,752. In the four prior years, Bardah has played in an average Main Event field size of 6,783.5 players with an average finish of 285.25. In total, his previous Main Event cashes have earned him $416,723, and he's guaranteed at least $18,406 this year.

Right after the field entered the money, Bardah moved all in from the small blind against Eric Cloutier's big blind. Cloutier tank-called with the {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and was ahead of Bardah's {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}. Cloutier was the player at risk.

The flop, turn, and river ran out {4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} to give Bardah the win and bust Cloutier from the tournament.

Yesterday, PokerNews' Remko Rinkema chatted with Bardah about the record he was chasing, and you can watch that interview in the video below.

High Card for a 2015 Main Event Seat

Nível 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Zhen Cai
Zhen Cai

With three players busting on the bubble - Zhen Cai, Kori Hunter, and John Dwyer - and only one 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event seat to give away, Jack Effel decided to get a little crazy.

The three split the first $18,406 prize, earning $6,135.33 each, then pulled high cards for the $10,000 seat.

"Alright, Max," Effel told the dealer. "Let's scramble 'em up."

Max obliged, shuffling the cards then fanned the 52 across a table in the middle of the Amazon Room. Hunter was first, and he opted to sweat his card. He eventually turned over the {6-Diamonds}, leaving him drawing very slim, and Cai quickly took the lead with the man with the ax - the {k-Diamonds}.

Dwyer was the last to pick, and because spades and hearts rank higher than diamonds, there were six cards in the deck that could give him the $10,000 seat: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}{a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{a-Spades}.

He also pulled a red six - the {6-Hearts} - and Cai was the winner of the hi-card bonanza.

The remaining players are all in the money, and guaranteed a minimum of $18,406, but all eyes are on the $10 million first-place prize.

Another Double on the Bubble

Paul Tedeschi
Paul Tedeschi

After big preflop action, Paul Tedeschi was all in and at risk for 145,000 on a flop of {7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. He was ahead with {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} against the {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds} of Arthur Morris, and the cards were turned face up when prompted by Jack Effel.

"There's streets to come," Morris joked, hoping for a diamond on the turn.

The turn was red, but the {10-Hearts} was a brick, as was the {6-Hearts} on the river.

The Frenchman doubled to 440,000 chips, while Morris dipped down to 520,000.

Rutter Doubles on the Bubble

Nível 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Stuart Rutter
Stuart Rutter

The action folded to Stuart Rutter on the button and he raised to 10,500. Daniel Alaei called from the big blind and checked the {J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop with Rutter continuing for 12,000. Alaei then pushed in a stack of chips before Rutter moved all in for 73,000 with Alaei instantly making the call.

Although Rutter was the first hand to be paused, his would be the last to be played out.

Rutter: {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}
Alaei: {J-Spades}{9-Clubs}

With Rutter at risk, the turn of the {4-Diamonds} and river of the {7-Diamonds} ensured him the double to 174,000 as Alaei slipped to 145,000 in chips.
