Boatman Loses Race

Nível 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

Barny Boatman has recently lost his “first flip of the day,” as he put it.

Avraham Kadosh had opened for 1,500 and Boatman raised him to 4,000. Kadosh moved all in for just over 33,000 and Boatman made the call. Kadosh had {9-}{9-} and Boatman {a-Spades}{k-Spades}. There was an ace on the flop, but the turn then produced one of Kadosh’s needed nines to cut Boatman’s stack in half and double up Kadosh.

Smith Loses Some

Nível 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

Action folded around to Patrick Clarke on the button and he popped it up to 1,200. Dan Smith was in the small blind and made a three-bet to 3,600. The big blind folded and Clarke came over the top with a four-bet to 6,900. Smith called.

The flop came down {K-Clubs}{A-Spades}{8-Spades} and Smith quickly checked. Clarke checked it back and the {a-Hearts} fell on the turn. Smith tapped the table for a second time and Clarke took this opportunity to bet what looked like 5,600. Smith let his hand go and Clarke picked up the pot.

With this hit, Smith is now down below starting stack with about 29,500.

Rossiter Doubles Through Rettenmaier

Nível 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

We picked up the action with a flop showing {9-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, and both blinds checked to Marvin Rettenmaier who was seated under the gun. Rettenmaier bet 1,625, the small blind folded, and Jeff Rossiter called from the big.

On the turn the {8-Spades} popped up and Rossiter checked to Rettenmaier again who paused for 30 seconds before betting 4,125. Rossiter did some tanking of his own before he ultimately decided to move all in for 9,750 total.

Rettenmaier snap-called.

Rettenmaier: {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Rossiter: {Q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

Rossiter had turned a full house and Rettenmaier was drawing dead after having flopped a straight. The {5-Spades} filled out the board, and Rossiter doubled up.

Heitmann Off to Watch the World Cup

Nível 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

Upon his arrival to the Amazon Purple section, German pro Jan Heitmann requested the nearest TV be turned to the FIFA World Cup Germany vs. Brazil match, a requested that was honored by the staff.

Heitmann seemed more interested in that game than the Main Event, but that didn't stop him from playing a little poker. In what ended up being his final hand, Heitmann got his chips in (it appeared to be on the turn) holding the {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds} on a board reading {q-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. Unfortunately for him, Angus Wong had flopped two pair with the {6-Spades}{4-Spades}. The {J-Spades} river was of no consequence, and that was all she wrote for Heitmann.

"Have a good day," someone at the table told Heitmann.

"That depends on this match," Heitmann said while motioning to the World Cup on TV. Given Germany scored a couple of minutes later, we're guessing Heitmann isn't too torn up over his exit.

Karanam Picks Off Bluff

Nível 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

A player bet 6,700 into Ajaykumar Karanam with the board reading {3-}{9-}{3-}{4-}{8-}, and Karanam cut out chips to call, staring at his opponent to see if he reacted. After a bit of thought, Karanam dropped the chips into the middle, and his opponent instantly flipped over {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for ace-jack high. Karanam was a bit better with {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}, and he took the pot. He's certainly among the early leaders here in Brasilia.

At another table in the Red section, Tony Gregg is sitting with a below-average stack.

"I Don't Have Hearts"

Nível 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

Jonathan Taylor raised to 1,100 in early position, Larry Karambis called on the button, and Anthony Newman defended his big blind. The flop fell {9-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, Newman checked, and Taylor continued for 2,100. Karambis raised to 7,200, Newman moved all in for 34,575, and Taylor instantly mucked.

"Well," Karambis said, reaching for chips. "I don't have hearts."

He called, showing {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} for middle set, and Newman was drawing very slim with {7-Clubs}{7-Spades} for bottom set.

The {7-Diamonds} spiked onto the felt on the turn, however, giving Newman quads, and a {10-} bricked off on the river.

"There's been a cooler every other hand," Taylor told our reporter as Newman pulled in the pot.

Newman more that doubled to 73,000 chips, while Karambis slipped to 55,000.

Sweet Start For Van Zadelhoff

Nível 6 : 250/500, 50 ante
Steven van Zadelhoff
Steven van Zadelhoff

Dutch pro Steven van Zadelhoff, who has cashed the World Series of Poker Main Event twice before and also once in London during the WSOP Europe Main Event, just managed to find himself a double-up.

The player in the small blind raised to 1,350 and Van Zadelhoff three-bet to 3,200 from the big blind. The big blind applied some more pressure making it 9,300 to go and that was the sign for the Dutch pro to move all in for 21,425.

Van Zadelhoff: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

The board ran out {7-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Van Zadelhoff's queens held to win him the pot.
