Jacob Zalewski Doubles Up

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Jacob Zalewski
Jacob Zalewski

With 65,000 already in the pot, Jacob Zalewski moved all in with the board showing {6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{10-Clubs}. His lone opponent, in Seat 8, had a tough decision to make holding {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} with the call being for nearly half his stack. He studied Zalewski, trying to get some kind of indicator whether he was beaten or not. Ultimately, he decided he couldn't fold his queens and called.

Zalewski turned over {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} and when the river bricked out, the excited Zalewski pumped his fist and let out a "Yeah!" The chips started coming his way and he couldn't help but let out another "Yes!" before quickly apologizing to his opponent for his excitement. That double up brings Zalewski, who started the day with 37,475, up to 122,000.

Gorr Chips Up with Flop Raise

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

On the {K-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop, Yosuke Sekiya checked, and then Martin Jacobson bet 3,700. Behind him was 2011 Aussie Millions Main Event champion David Gorr, and he raised to 8,600 with about 21,000 behind. Sekiya folded, then Jacobson followed suit, and Gorr picked up the pot.

Jacobson Applies Pressure

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Martin Jacobson
Martin Jacobson

Martin Jacobson started things off with a raise to 2,200 and his opponent, on the button, reraised to 5,000. The blinds folded and the action was back on Jacobson who gave a puzzled look to his opponent before casually tossing out a call.

The flop came {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{2-Clubs} and both players checked. Jacobson led out for 5,000 on the {9-Clubs} turn and his opponent quickly called. The river was the {9-Diamonds} and Jacobson took five T5,000 chips and flung them effortlessly into the middle. This was enough to set his opponent all in. His opponent took a stack of black chips, broke them down, and then put them back together. He did this several times before mucking his cards while asking Jacobson, "You got it? Queens?"

Jacobson smiled and answered, "I don't remember. Ace-king?"

The end of Day 1a chip leader continues to sit with a comfortable stack, having 262,000 after dragging that pot.

Richey Runs One Down

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Brett Richey bet 8,500 out of the small blind on a {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop and was called by his lone opponent, the player on the button. Richey's 16,000 turn barrel was called as well after the {4-Diamonds} hit, and a {j-Diamonds} completed the board. Richey put his foe all in for his final 33,000 or so, and the player snap-called.

"Flush," Richey said.

"Really?" the player on the button said in disbelief.

Richey tabled {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for a backdoor flush, while his opponent had rivered two pair with {k-}{j-}.

At other tables in the red section, Liv Boeree and Zachary Gruneberg's seats are now filled by other players.

Step by Step for Steady Steven

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Steven van Zadelhoff could also be called "Steady Steven", as his chip stack grows or decreases by a few big blinds here and there.

Van Zadelhoff was just caught winning two pots, the first one we followed from the turn, on a {4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Clubs} board. Van Zadelhoff had bet 5,000 from the big blind and the player in the big blind called after some tanking.

The river was the {J-Spades} and the small blind checked once more, after which Van Zadelhoff bet 5,500. The small blind folded right away and Van Zadelhoff stacked his newly won chips.

On the very next hand, Nate Meyvis raised to 2,400 and Van Zadelhoff three-bet from the small blind to 7,100. Meyvis folded and Van Zadelhoff picked up another pot.

Obrestad Finds a Good Spot

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Annette Obrestad led out on a flop of {5-Hearts}{a-Spades}{6-Spades} for 14,500 and her opponent moved all in for a total of 20,800. She gave a little laugh as she put the extra in and asked, “Did you hit a set?”

Her opponent did indeed have {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and Oberstad showed {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, asking rhetorically why she always did these things. She turned to Layne Flack, sat next to her and said, “It was a good spot.” He agreed and pointed out that she had backdoor flush possibilities, too.

The turn {a-Diamonds} and river {2-Hearts} didn't bring any of Obrestad’s outs and a sizable chunk of her stack slid across the felt.

Cartwright Knocks One Out

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Kyle Cartwright is looking to replicate this moment
Kyle Cartwright is looking to replicate this moment

We didn't catch the preflop action, but Kyle Cartwright held {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} and had his opponent all-in and at-risk, holding {K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}. The board ran out {8-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Spades} and Cartwright's opponent was eliminated. Cartwright, who recently won his first WSOP bracelet in Event #4: $1,000 No Limit Hold'Em for $360,435 has started to accumulate chips here as play starts to wind down for the day. He now sits with 127,000 in chips, a nice increase from where he sat a few hours ago.
