Hellmuth and Dwan Enter the Room

Eyes lit up and fans started smiling as two tall gentleman made their way through the Amazon Room to their designated tables.

These tall gentlemen are none other than Phil Hellmuth and Tom Dwan who, unfortunately for the crowd, got seated at two tables far removed from where spectators can follow the action.

Hellmuth was the first to reach his table, and the player to his left immediately broke out in a full-throated, "Oh my god!"

"Did you just show up?" the player asked, and Hellmuth kindly smiled and nodded.

The players at the table were awestruck, but it won't take long for them to tangle with the 13-time bracelet winner as if he's just another player.

A very jovial Tom Dwan sat down at an adjacent table and he started chatting with his good friend Jon Aguiar right away. Aguiar got a hold of Dwan's chip bag and joked that it might be worth something on eBay if Dwan were to sign it. Dwan jokingly declined but it seems like the superstar's in a good mood with about three and a half hours of play left on Day 1c.

Lam Didn't Last

The 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event runner-up Tuan Lam has just been knocked out by Filipp Khavin.

Andy Frankenberger was kind enough to share the hand with us that started with a raise to 800. Lam called and Khavin three-bet to 3,600 from the small blind. The initial raiser folded and Lam called.

The flop brought out and Khavin bet 3,000 after which Lam moved all in for 7,000. Khavin called and the following showdown went like this:

The turn was the giving Lam a flush but the river was the giving Khavin a bigger flush to knock Lam out. Khavin, who cashed in the WSOP Main Event in the last two years, is on pace for another deep run this year.

Liebert Hits the Dusty Trail Early

Piqué Called Off Side, Hinkle Climbing

NFL Defensive Lineman Richard Seymour Among the Day 1c Masses

Professional athletes playing in the Main Event is nothing out of the ordinary, as Paul Pierce and Roberto Luongo have shown over the years. Today it's former New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders defensive lineman Richard Seymour making his World Series of Poker Main Event debut.

Seymour was drafted sixth overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft by the Patriots and went on to play eights seasons with them playing defensive tackle. He was a part of three Super Bowl winning Patriot teams before being traded to the Raiders in 2009, where he spent the next four seasons playing both defensive tackle and defensive end. Over the course of his career, Seymour was named to the NFL All-Pro team five times and voted into the Pro Bowl seven times. His 57.5 career sacks rank in the top 20 all-time for career sacks by a defensive tackle.

He's chipped up slightly from the starting stack to about 35,000.

A Polk Story

When Doug Polk was moved into the Purple Section of the Amazon Room, he only had 3,000 chips. Now, after a triple up and double up, he has 25,000.

There was a raise to 800 from early position, a call, and a third player reraised to 2,600 on the button. Doug Polk moved all in for 13,550 out of the big blind, and the action folded to the player on the button who called all in for less.

"Don't show two jacks," the players told Polk, revealing .

Polk didn't have two jacks, but he had his opponent dominated with . The 2014 bracelet winner held up as the board rolled out , raking in the pot.

Ivey Scores Elimination with Set Over Set

Picking up with the action on a flop, an early positioned player fired out a bet of 1,625. Phil Ivey was in the next seat over and came over the top for 5,000 total. His opponent wasted little time three-bet shipping all in for about 24,000. Ivey called and the hands were turned over.

Zach Zimbile Qualifies for Main Event Via WSOP.com

On Saturday, July 5, WSOP.com hosted their $215 buy-in WSOP Main Event Scramble, which guaranteed 25 seats into the $10,000 buy-in Main Event. The online qualifier attracted 1,235 players, and true to their promise they awarded 25 seats into the "Big One."

Zach Zimbile is no stranger to the WSOP as he's at the Rio almost everyday; however, he doesn't come as a player, but instead as an employee of Kondler & Associates, the poker tax specialists who man a popular booth in the halls of the Rio.

Zimbile had longed dream of playing in the Main Event, but the buy-in proved a little too steep for his bankroll. Thanks to WSOP.com, Zimbile's dream has come true and he now finds himself among the hopefuls competing for a $10 million payday. Needless to say, if he manages a nice score, he'll have the tax stuff all figured out.

PokerNews caught up with Zimbile on a recent break from the Main Event for a quick interview.

PokerNews: Can you tell us a little more on how you qualified for the Main Event?

Zimbile: I've always wanted to play the Main Event, but I don't play a ton of poker and obviously a $10,000 buy-in is way out of my league. But the other night I decided to throw $200 on WSOP.com and they had 1,250 runners and gave 25 seats away. Twelve hours later I found myself 23 out of 25 people and I got myself a seat, so here I am now on Day 1c.

We've seen you at the Rio quite a bit for Kondler & Associates. What's it like to be on the other side of the table so to speak, playing against players instead of working with them?

I played a few sit-n-go's to start the WSOP, and that's really all I did. I was here for work for the Main Event last year, this is our second year here at the WSOP, and watching all the players it looked like it was an unbelievable amount of fun. Even after the first level I'm having a great time.

I see a few people at the table I recognize. Sam Trickett is in the three seat, so that's always interesting when you see a familiar face, but I've settled in and it seems like it's going to be a fun tournament. I hope it goes a little bit longer than just today.

Some players enjoying mixing it up with the pros. Do you like having notable competition or would you rather have a really soft table?

Easy tables are always great, but you could think you have an easy table and all of a sudden you could have four guys who're online winners and you would never know they are great players to begin with. I know that Sam Trickett is a great player, I've seen him play before, and I know he's capable of making plays. It's fun to play with pros, but I'm going to sit back and enjoy it for what it is. If I happen to play well great, but this is probably a once in a lifetime tournament.

You say once in a lifetime. What is it that makes the Main Event so special?

I'm not going to get ahead of myself, but I can understand why all these people pay $10,000 to try and win $10 million. Just looking around the room and thinking someone here could be the Main Event champion and $10 million richer, that's crazy, you can't get that anywhere else.

Australian Cricketer Shane Warne Ready to Bowl Some Players Over

Shane Warne is one of the greatest sportsman of our generation. Unfortunately for the majority of our readers who are based in the USA, his name may not be as highly regarded as ones such as Michael Jordan or Derek Jeter because Warne plays the game of cricket. The most popular sport in the world behind only soccer.

Like Jordan, Warne is arguably one of the greatest players in his chosen sport amassing a career set of accolades that include 708 Test wickets, 293 One-Day International wickets, an unfortunate high score of 99 and the honor of bowling the Ball of the Century to Mike Gatting in his first ever delivery at Old Trafford in England.

Warne however has been a keen poker player over the past few years and amassed results in Australia and abroad while participating in both the WSOP and WSOP Europe Main Events in recent times. However this is where Warne's story gets interesting.

Just this weekend, the Lord's Cricket Ground; the Official Home of Cricket, hosted a 200th Anniversary match between the MCC and Rest of the World sides. Warne's ex-teammate Brett Lee was bowling to Warne, and struck him with a beamer in the hand. Warne continued to play on, but an x-ray later revealed that Warne had broken his right hand. Bandaged up and in a cast, Warne had to make a flight from England to Las Vegas so that he could take a seat in today's Main Event flight.

Our PokerNews blogger - who is also a fellow Australian - bumped into Warne during the hallway at the last break and said hello. Warne then detailed how his broken hand was just the start of his rocky road to get here.

Although Warne and his family - a party of eight in total - were booked on an early flight out of Heathrow airport, that flight would cancelled. With Warne needing to find another flight to get everyone her to Las Vegas, he found two options landing at Chicago or Miami and Warne quickly got his group together and headed to the airport. On the way down the A4 however, the car he was being transported in broke down and a quick-thinking Warne turned into hitchhiker mode where he happened to flag down an Indian man in a van who happily gave all eight people and their mass of luggage a ride so that Warne could make it in time.

Warne - who is located in the Black section of the Pavilion room - was hoping to register late today so that he could be extra refreshed to tackle a day of poker, but unfortunately his sponsor 888Poker registered him on time so that his stack was in play from the start.

"I have to run good today. It can only go up from here!" stated an optimistic Warne during break.
