Faraz Jaka loves the Dough
Faraz Jaka loves the Dough

A little while after folding a pot away to Jorge Vergara's preflop shove, Faraz Jaka tangled with him again in a recent hand, and this time he was the one left to show a single hole card.

In their previous confrontation Vergara offered to show one half of his hand, and Jaka obliged by turning over the {q-Clubs}.

This time, the two played with a flop of {j-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} already on board, and about 4,500 already in the pot. Jaka was acting from under the gun and he fired out a bet of 1,500, causing Vergara to wince and begin to count down his stack.

"Man..." he said aloud in Jaka's direction. "You flop a baby set or something?"

Finally, Vergara decided that discretion was the better part of valor, and his cards were slid toward the dealer, but while he did so Vergara asked for the favor to be returned.

"Show?" he asked Jaka from across the table. "You owe me one."

Jaka obliged after hearing Vergara's reasoning, and with a sinner's smile spreading on his face, "The Toilet" flicked the {k-Hearts} face up near the flop.

"Really?" asked Vergara when he saw the sight of a non-paired card. "I folded ace-jack."

Fresh off of a 3rd place finish in the WPT World Championship - where he defended his home tour by nearly winning it's greatest prize - Tony "Bond18" Dunst is joined the party here today.

Dunst notched by far his biggest score on the felt back in April, earning $452,729 while proving that his strategy advice in the Raw Deal feature is backed up by some serious skill.

After stopping by to say hello, Dunst headed over to take a crack at building a stack here in Event #9, so we'll be sure to track his progress throughout the day.

Faraz Jaka knows the best way to get the Dough is to pick your spots wisely

After opening to 450 from early position Faraz Jaka watched Jorge Vergara ship the remainder of his stack forward rather quickly, putting what looked to be about 4,000 at risk.

The action folded back around to Jaka, and the man known as "The Toilet" due to his affinity for suited cards that can make a flush decided to respect the power play by folding.

"Pick one..." offered the Vergara, while sliding his two down cards over to Jaka. "They're both good."

Jaka obliged and slowly squeezed the {q-Clubs} while showing the table, before moving on the to next hand.

Matt Stout is repping the Kings today, but his heart bleeds blue for his beloved New York Rangers

Matt Stout headed over to the PokerNews Live Reporting Desk to take a gander at the Stanley Cup Playoff Game 7 currently underway between the L.A. Kings and the Chicago Blackhawks.

As his visit became an extended one, us swapping hockey stories with the most avid New York Rangers fan this side of Madison Square Garden, it was soon clear that his time in Event #9 had come to an end.

Stout was kind enough to run us through a postmortem of his bustout hand, as his {A-Clubs}{10-Spades} was ran down by {6-Clubs}{8-Clubs} in an all-in confrontation before the flop. One player opened for 600, Stout three-bet shoved for his last 2,450, and the raiser looked him up. The first three board cards were bad news for Stout, coming {7-}{7-Clubs}{2-Clubs} to give his opponent a flush draw, but it was a {6-} on the turn which left him drawing thin.

The river came {3-} to leave Stout with no pair - and no chips - but he happily headed out to catch the rest of the game, hoping the Kings can mount a comeback to gain entrance to the Stanley Cup Finals - where Stout's beloved Rangers lie in wait.

James Woods makes friends at every table he sits down at, but he also knows how to take his fans' chips along the way

During the recent break James Woods filled us in on the details of his path to building one of the biggest stacks in the room, with the actor who famously starred in the television series Shark proving that he still has a bit of bite left in him

According to Woods, he tangled with the table's loosest player on two different occasions, bluffing both times to force his opponent to fold, and showing down nine-high and the like each time.

Shortly afterwards, Woods won a big flip when his {9-}{9-} held up over {A-}{q-} through five board cards, propelling him to the top of the chip counts as Level 5 begins.

Kenneth Lind's calling card
Kenneth Lind's calling card

We met Kenneth Lind last year at the World Series of Poker's final table stage, where the smiling sexagenarian took down the Seniors Championship for a life-changing $634,809 score.

Lind is a gregarious fellow prone to backclaps and banter, and his genuine interest in the players he meets during his tournament travels is evident in every exchange. Like Barry Greenstein before him, this WSOP champion has taken to giving a gift to players who bust him from a tournament, and while Lind's calling card is not as flashy as an autographed copy of Ace on the River, it holds a certain meaning nonetheless.

Lind is in the house here today, competing in the WSOP one year after achieving his greatest accomplishment on the felt. We'll be sure to let you know if and when Lind's signature calling card comes out of the wallet to greet a player he busted, or the opponent who sends him to the rail.

Mukul Pahuja
Mukul Pahuja

Whenever three of the game's brightest stars are all seated at the same table, our reportorial interest is piqued, but with Scott Clements, Joe Serock, and Mukul Pahuja in the #5, #6, and #7 seats, respectively, we stopped by catch a little pro-on-pro combat.

Although Clements and Serock declined to enter the pot we witnessed, Pahuja decided to test the waters with a 400 c-bet on the {8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{5-Hearts} flop after the big blind checked the action.

That player sprung a trap though, raising the minimum to 800 to draw a stare from Mukul - who just recorded one of the most impressive seasons ever on the WPT circuit, ultimately winning Player of the Year honors.

Pahuja called the raise to see the turn come {a-Spades}, and both players checked to see the {9-Hearts} complete the board on the river. Two more taps of the table led to a showdown, but Mukul mucked when his opponent rolled over {8-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for the winner.

The flop read {9-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{2-Hearts} when we caught AP Phahurat contesting a pot against two opponents. The big blind player had checked to Phahurat in middle position, and the pro obliged with a bet of 300.

The player in the hijack seat decided to apply a little added pressure, and he raised the action to 800, prompting a lengthy tank-and-talk from the big blind. Finally, that player decided to lay down, and with the action back on him Phahurat quickly flicked out a baby blue T500 chip to see the turn.

Fourth street delivered the {q-Hearts} from the deck and both players tapped the table at the sight of the four-flush, bringing the {5-Diamonds} on the river.

Phahurat then seized control of the pot with a bet of 1,100, which was enough to force the hijack off his hand.

Jon Turner couldn't crack cowboys and he lost a chunk of change as a result

We passed by Jon "PearlJammed" Turner's table recently just in time to catch him calling an all-in wager of 1,700.

The bet was made by Curtis Harrison, who quickly tabled {K-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} when Turner looked him up. The longtime pro also held a pocket pair, but his {8-Hearts}{8-Spades} was crushed by Harrison's cowboys.

With it being 100 degrees outside in the Las Vegas desert, Turner's snowmen quickly melted away as the final board rolled out {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

"Ooh, A Piece of Candy!"

James Woods found a piece of candy on the river to stay alive
James Woods found a piece of candy on the river to stay alive

During the recent break James Woods - a legendary actor of the silver screen who also lends his voice to a Family Guy character based on himself - filled us in on a miraculous suckout he scored to keep himself in the tournament.

According to Woods, he held {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs} with the board showing a king, a queen, and two spades by the turn. Woods knew he was drawing extremely thin, needing to spike the only non-spade deuce in the deck, but with a short stack and most of his chips already in the pot, he went for the gusto.

Sure enough, his two opponent's showed down a pair and a flush draw, respectively, but the {2-Diamonds} materialized on the river to send the pot Woods' way. With his ever-present smile now even wider, Woods received an unlikely second chance, and the affable actor now has a replenished stack with which to work.
