Drinan Eliminated in a Bad Beat to End All Bad Beats

Nível 13 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Connor Drinan
Connor Drinan

Cary Katz raised to 225,000 from the under-the-gun position only to have Connor Drinan three-bet to 580,000 from the big blind. Katz responded with a four-bet to 2 million. Drinan then moved all in and Katz called off for 5.79 million.

Katz: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}
Drinan: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}

The {2-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop gave Katz a freeroll to hearts, and the {4-Hearts} turn made it a very real possibility.

"Oh my god," someone at the table said as the crowd moaned realizing one more heart would give Katz the massive pot.

The {2-Hearts} river then shot shockwaves through the crowd. Sam Trickett and Antonio Esfandiari could not believe what happened and walked away from the tabled shaking their heads, while Katz and Drinan remained seated as the floorman and dealer sorted out the stacks.

It was the worst bad beat in the world's biggest tournament and Drinan, who qualified for the tournament via a $25,000 satellite, was the unfortunate victim. The stacks were verified, and as it turned out Drinan had started the hand with slightly fewer chips.

"I'll never complain about having aces cracked again," Katz said after Drinan had exited the stage.

Admiral Ackbar

Nível 13 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Christoph Vogelsang
Christoph Vogelsang

Christoph Vogelsang checked to Tom Hall on a flop of {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}{a-Hearts}, and Hall checked behind. The turn was the {5-Clubs}, Vogelsang checked again, and Hall fired out 400,000. Vogelsang called.

The {5-Diamonds} completed the board, and Vogelsang knuckled a third and final time. Hall announced all in, and Vogelsang called as fast as possible, turning over {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}.

Hall was forced to show his bluff - {j-Spades}{9-Hearts} - then shipped 2.155 million over to his German opponent.

"Nice hand," Hall told him.

Hall Busts Haxton

Nível 13 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Isaac Haxton runs queens into Tom Halls' aces
Isaac Haxton runs queens into Tom Halls' aces

Tom Hall raised to 205,000 from second position, Brandon Steven called on his direct left, Gabe Kaplan called in the cutoff, and Isaac Haxton reraised to 800,000 on the button.

Hall moved all in, having the entire table covered, and Steven quickly folded. Kaplan looked to be in a bit of pain because of the all-in bet, and pulled his hat over his eyes. He sat with his hand covering his face for a minute or so before folding, and then Haxton had a decision.

He chose the opposite, and called all in for roughly four million.

Hall: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}
Haxton: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

Haxton was crushed, and Kaplan would've been too had he called - he said he folded two jacks.

The {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop gave Haxton two backdoor draws, but the {a-Diamonds} on the turn ended the hand, giving Hall an unbeatable full house. The {7-Clubs} completed the board, and Haxton hit the rail.

Hall pulled in the pot, and is now up over 16 million chips.

Esfandiari vs. Schwartz: Only One Will Survive

Nível 12 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Noah Schwartz
Noah Schwartz

After Noah Schwartz raised the button and Antonio Esfandiari called from the big blind, the flop came out {10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and "The Magician" bet 205,000. Schwartz took his time before making the call, and then the dealer burned and turned the {2-Clubs}.

Esfandiari bet 405,000, Schwartz moved all in for 2.4 million, and Esfandiari snap-called.

Esfandiari: {8-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Schwartz: {10-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Schwartz held top pair, but he was drawing dead as Esfandiari had flopped the nuts. The meaningless {4-Clubs} was put out on the river to make it official, and then Schwartz grabbed his bag and exited the feature table area.

Erick Lindgren
Erick Lindgren

Erick Lindgren was down to just 715,000 when he just moved all in from cutoff, the hand over John Juanda had busted. There was a dead button and Phil Ivey folded his small blind after which Tobias Reinkemeier called quickly from the big blind.

Lindgren: {K-Diamonds}{2-Spades}
Reinkemeier: {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}

The board ran out {Q-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{7-Spades}{9-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} and Lindgren hit the rail.

Seidel Sent Packing With Set Over Set

Nível 12 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Erik Seidel - Eliminated
Erik Seidel - Eliminated

Gabe Kaplan and Isaac Haxton checked to Erik Seidel on a flop of {5-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{j-Clubs}, and he tossed out two lavender T250,000 chips. Gabe Kaplan moved all in for around three million, Haxton folded, and Seidel snap-called.

Seidel: {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}
Kaplan: {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}

Both players had flopped a set, but Kaplan held the superior three of a kind.

"The good thing is there are no more fives in the deck," Kristoph Vogelsang told Seidel. "So you can't get re-sucked out on when you hit a deuce."

Seidel gave a laugh.

Both the turn and the river had no sides, but the {a-Clubs} and the {3-Hearts} were no help to Seidel, who was eliminated.

"Good luck, everyone," he offered before exiting.

John Juanda - Eliminated
John Juanda - Eliminated

Action folded all of the way around the table to John Juanda in the small blind. He moved all in for his last roughly 800,000 and Phil Ivey instantly called from the big blind.

Ivey: {A-Clubs}{8-Hearts}
Juanda: {10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}

The board ran out {6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{K-Spades}{Q-Spades}{K-Hearts}, keeping Ivey in the lead with ace-high. Juanda was eliminated from play and Ivey's stack now sits at about 8.1 million.

"That Could've Been Worse"

Nível 12 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Tony Gregg
Tony Gregg

Tony Gregg limped in from the cutoff, Connor Drinan called on his left, Bill Klein completed from the small blind, and Erick Lindgren checked in the big blind.

The flop fell {10-Hearts}{3-Spades}{k-Spades}, and the action checked to Gregg. He tossed out 215,000, only Drinan called, and the turn was the {10-Clubs}. Both players checked.

The river was the {5-Clubs}, and Gregg knuckled again. Drinan fired out 275,000, and Gregg tanked for around 90 seconds before reaching for chips. He wasn't calling, however, rather he check-raised to 960,000.

This sent Drinan into the tank, and after over two minutes, he called.

Gregg turned over {j-Spades}{j-Clubs} for a pair of jacks, but it was no good against Drinan's {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} for a pair of kings.

Despite losing the hand, Gregg broke out into a big smile.

"That could've been worse!" he said.

Colman Drags Massive Pot, Takes Chip Lead

Nível 12 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Daniel Colman
Daniel Colman

Action folded to Sam Trickett on the button and he made it 200,000 to go. Noah Schwartz flatted the small blind and Daniel Colman thought for a moment in the big blind. Colman came out with a three-bet to 650,000 and Trickett quickly called. Schwartz came along for the party as well.

The three saw a {J-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Clubs} flop hit the felt and Schwartz checked. Colman rapped the table back, allowing Trickett to lead at the pot for 900,000. After about 30 seconds, Schwartz reached for chips and cut out a call. Colman also dipped into his stack and flatted to the turn.

The dealer produced the {9-Clubs} on fourth street, putting four to a straight on the board. Schwartz checked for a second time, allowing Colman to fire into the pot. Colman moved 2.7 million forward, prompting an eye roll and a fold from Trickett. Schwartz, however, stuck around.

The {4-Diamonds} fell on the river and Schwartz checked for a third time. Colman dropped out 1 million in chips and Schwartz went deep into the tank. After about two minutes, Schwartz kicked his cards in and Colman was awarded the massive pot.

The Doc is Out of Business

Nível 12 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
David Sands
David Sands

Phil Ivey opened the action for 185,000 from the hijack only to have David "Doc" Sands three-bet all in for 1.325 million from the button. Doug Polk then moved all in over the top from the small blind, which inspired Ivey to fold.

Polk: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Sands: {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

It was a bad spot for Sands, and the {9-Hearts}{4-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop provided little help. The {A-Clubs} turn actually left Sands drawing dead, and after the {4-Hearts} was put out on the river for good measure, Sands exited the tournament in 26th place.
