Cates Already Cussing

Nível 1 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Daniel Cates and Tobias Reinkemeier were heads up on a board of {8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} with around 215,000. Cates fired out a bet of 150,000, and Reinkemeier tank-called.

"Ace-nine," Cates said, showing {a-Clubs}{9-Hearts}.

Reinkemeier had him pipped with {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} for a pair of tens, and pulled in the pot.

"F***," Cates said under his breath, bemoaning the loss.

Seiver Fills Up

Nível 1 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Dan Smith opened with a preflop raise to 20,000 and action folded all of the way around the table to Scott Seiver in the big blind.

"How much is that?" asked Seiver. "I can afford that."

The two took a flop of {J-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} and Seiver checked. Smith checked the action back, allowing the {6-Diamonds} to fall on the turn. Seiver took this opportunity to lead at the pot for 27,000. Smith stuck around and the board paired with the {J-Diamonds} on the river. Seiver dropped 85,000 into the middle and Smith called.

Seiver showed {Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts} for a full house of jacks full of queens. Smith mucked his cards and Seiver dragged another pot early against at Smith's expense. Seiver now has about 3.245 million in chips.

Brit on Brit Crime

Nível 1 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Sam Trickett fired out 83,000 into a pot of around 120,000 on a completed board of {6-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}. His opponent, fellow Brit Paul Newey, made a fairly quick call, and Trickett rolled over {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a flush.

Newey nodded, then mucked his hand.

Round 1: Phil vs. Phil

Nível 1 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Phil Galfond raised from the button to 15,000 and quickly Phil Ivey tossed in 50,000 from the big blind when Rono Lo gave up his small blind. Galfond looked back down at his cards and folded.

Two hands later Galfond raised to 15,000 again and Ivey called from the button. The flop came down {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}{3-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn was the {K-Hearts} and Galfond checked again, after which Ivey bet 23,000. Galfond called and checked the river, the {10-Clubs}, as well.

Ivey checked behind and Galfond turned over {K-Spades}{J-Hearts} for two pair.

Ivey smiled and tossed his cards towards the muck, but no lost pot in these early levels seems to be able to impact the 10-time bracelet winner's mood. Ivey's been chatting it up with everyone at the table and his recent bracelet win might have a lot to do with that.

Negreanu is a "Beast"

Nível 1 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Daniel Negreanu opened for a raise in late position, Phil Galfond defended from the blinds, and the two checked on a flop of {3-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}.

The turn was the {q-Clubs}, the two knuckled again, and the {10-Clubs} completed the board. Galfond rapped the felt for a third and final time, and Negreanu tanked for a bit before checking as well.

"Eight-high," Galfond announced.

Negreanu turned over {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for ace-high.

"I had you dominated!" Negreanu said, grinning.

"You'r a beast, Daniel," Phil Ivey said from across the table. "Wow. Such a great winner."

Negreanu and his neighbor Erik Lindgren shared a laugh.

"He's even worse on the golf course," Lindgren added.

"Everyone is out for blood!"

Nível 1 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Dan Smith was in early position and raised the action to 23,000. Greg Merson made it 76,000 from the cutoff and action came back around to Smith who called.

The two saw a flop of {4-Spades}{7-Clubs}{9-Clubs} hit the felt and Smith checked. Merson continued out for 57,000 and Smith flat called. The turn was the {10-Hearts} and Smith checked for a second time. Merson knocked the table back, allowing the {K-Hearts} to complete the board. Smith checked and Merson fired 126,000, sending Smith deep into the tank.

About 90 seconds passed before Smith tossed out a call. Merson tabled {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for ace-high and a busted club draw. Smith showed the winning hand of {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a pair of tens. He picked up the pot and now sits around 3.105 million while Merson's stack has dropped to 2.7 million.

"They're firing today, boys," said Antonio Esfandiari at the other end of the table. "They are firing today."

"Everyone is out for blood!" replied Scott Seiver with a smile.

Less Than a Level for the First to Fall

Nível 2 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

It took less than a level for the first elimination to occur in the world's biggest buy-in poker tournament, and the hand in question happened between Sam Trickett and David Einhorn, who finished second and third respectively in the inaugural Big One for One Drop.

The hand, which took place at the tail end of Level 1, began when Trickett raised to 18,000 from the button and Einhorn three-bet to 51,000 from the small blind. The big blind folded, and Tricket opted to make the call to see a flop of {2-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}. Einhorn was first to act and led out for 75,000, which Trickett called.

After the dealer burned and turned the {3-Spades}, Einhorn upped his bet to 175,000 and Trickett paused for a few moments before raising to 475,000. Einhorn wasted little time in three-betting to 775,000, and Trickett though long and hard before dropping in a call.

When the {Q-Clubs} completed the board on the river, Einhorn bet 850,000 and Trickett quietly announced that he was all in. Einhorn snap-called.

Einhorn: {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
Trickett: {4-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

Einhorn had flopped top set, but Trickett had a well-disguised straight. Einhorn seemed a bit shellshocked as the dealer counted down the stacks and it was determined he had the shorter of the two.

Einhorn, who came close to taking down this event the first time around, becomes the first elimination of the 2014 World Series of Poker Big One for One Drop. On a side note, Igor Kurganov was moved to the table to replace Einhorn.

How Lo Can You Go

Nível 2 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Before the level change, Erick Lindgren raised to 12,000, Rono Lo called in the cutoff, and Phil Ivey called on the button. The dealer fanned {4-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}, Lindgren checked, and Lo tossed out 30,000. Ivey folded, Lindgren called, and the turn brought the {9-Clubs}.

Lindgren check-called another 80,000, the {6-Clubs} completed the board, and Lindgren checked a third and final time. Lo reached for two canary T100,000 chips, added a few others, and tossed out 209,000. Lindgren made a crying call, then mucked when Lo showed {6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for trip sixes.
