Schulman on the Comeback

Nível 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Nick Schulman
Nick Schulman

All four players at Table #353 went to the first draw with Nick Schulman taking two, Eli Elezra taking three, Jon Turner taking one, and Justin Bonomo taking two. Schulman and Elezra checked over to Turner who led out. All three of his opponents called.

On the second draw, Schulman and Elezra each received two new cards, Turner stood pat, and Bonomo also opted for two. Action checked back to Turner who led out. Bonomo folded, Schulman called, and Elezra folded. The final draw saw Schulman take one and Turner stand pat.

Schulman led out, betting all in for his last 2,000.

"Wish I would have taken two shots at it," said Turner, tabling a ninety-seven.

Schulman rolled over {7-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-} for the wheel and raked in the pot.

"Just a wheel?" joked Jason Mercier from the next table over.

"Yeah," replied Schulman. "I figure dI'd lead out instead of leaving 2k behind."

Schulman has mounted a comeback and now sits at 130,000.

Tom Schneider - Eliminated
Tom Schneider - Eliminated

Jason Mercier raised it up from under the gun and Tom Schneider called from his big blind. Schneider pulled two new cards and Mercier took three. Both players checked and drew the same amount of cards on the second draw. Schneider bet all in for his last 13,000 and Mercier called.

Each player drew one card on the final draw and Schneider announced that he was drawing to a ten-low. Mercier tabled {7-}{6-}{4-}{2-} and sweated out a {10-} to make a ten-seven low. Schneider looked at his final card and revealed to the table that it was also a {10-} giving him a pair and eliminating him from play.

Each remaining player is now guaranteed at least $24,342 in prize money. The field will now re-draw to the final two tables of six. A seating chart will be posted soon.

Galfond Extends Lead

Nível 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Tuan Le raised from the cutoff and Phil Galfond called. Michael Chow made it three bets from the small blind and both Le and Galfond called.

Chow took one card while Le and Galfond each drew three. Chow fired out a bet and found two calls. On draw number two, Chow and Le each picked up one while Galfond took two. Chow checked, prompting a bet from Le. Galfond raised and Chow let his hand go. Le flatted and the duo went to the final draw.

Le tapped the table, signifying that he was pat. Galfond nodded his head and peeked back down at his hand. He opted to receive one new card. Le checked, Galfond led at the pot, and Le instantly called.

"Eight-seven perfect," said Galfond, throwing {8-}{7-}{4-}{3-}{2-} in the middle. Le mucked his hand and Galfond was pushed the pot.

Phil Galfond Leads Final 12, Mercier Close Behind

Nível 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Phil Galfond Leads Final 12
Phil Galfond Leads Final 12

Day 2 of Event #5: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball Championship has come to a close! The field popped the money bubble late in the night, guaranteeing the final 12 players a payday. Online legend Phil Galfond bagged up the chip lead at the end of the night with 604,000 in chips.

While Galfond leads the positively stacked final 12, two-time WSOP bracelet winner Jason Mercier is right on his heels. Mercier, who went into the bubble as the shortest stack in the field, ran up his stack and bagged up 561,000 which is good for second in chips. Alexandre Luneau rounds out the top three with 386,000.

Galfond assumed the chip lead late in the day after a key confrontation with Todd Brunson. Brunson lost most of his chips to the 2008 WSOP $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha w/ Rebuys bracelet winner and was eliminated from play soon after. Later in the day, Galfond butted heads with 2013 $50,000 Poker Players Championship winner Matthew Ashton. Galfond once again came out on top, making a wheel and crippling Ashton in the process.

A total of 52 players returned to the felt today with hopes of being among the top 12 and racking up a WSOP cash. As the day progressed, players like Shawn Sheikhan, Chris Klodnicki, Doyle Brunson, Freddy Deeb, Jennifer Harman, Larry Wright, Billy Baxter, Barry Greenstein, David Chiu, Ismael Bojang, David Bach, and John Hennigan were all eliminated from play with nothing to show for it.

The bubble period occurred late in the evening and lasted around two hours. Mercier began the bubble as the short stack but managed to work his stack back up and thrive as the day progressed. At one point, Eli Elezra, who won last year's $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw event looked as if he may wear the title of bubble boy. Fortunately for the two-time bracelet winner, he was also able to thrive during bubble play and will return in eighth chip position tomorrow.

The most bubble drama surrounded two-time bracelet winner Nick Schulman, who after a confrontation with Jon Turner, was knocked down to just two big bets. Schulman managed to come through in the clutch, however, and by the end of the night bagged up fifth in chips with 304,000. In the end, it was four-time bracelet winner Tom Schneider who was eliminated as the bubble boy. Schneider fell to Mercier when he paired up while drawing to a ten-low.

The final 12 players will return to the Amazon Room at 2 p.m. on Saturday where they will play down to a champion. Be sure to return to PokerNews as we document the exciting conclusion to this prestigious event!
