Giannetti Doubles

Matt Giannetti coudln't stand to watch
Matt Giannetti coudln't stand to watch

Matt Giannetti open-shoved his last 5.5 million from under the gun, and the action folded all the way to John Hewitt in the big blind. Upon sweating his cards, he ripped his hood off of his head, and went into the tank. He painstakingly called, and was in bad shape.

Showdown
Giannetti: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Hewitt: {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}

Giannetti looked sick. Despite having way the best hand, he was pacing back and forth on the main stage, unable to look at the table. His friends David Williams and Nenad Medic tried to console him, but it was no use.

The dealer rapped the table, and delivered a flop of {k-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{8-Clubs}.

Seemingly the entire crowd was rooting against Giannetti. A few Ukrainian gentlemen were yelling, "ace" with a thick accent, and other people were calling for running hearts.

"Jack of diamonds for a sweat," Medic joked from the rail.

The turn was the {5-Clubs}.

Giannetti's rail clapped loudly, knowing he was on the verge of a much-needed double up. The mothership fell silent right as the river was about to be dealt, and when the {6-Spades} hit the felt Giannetti's rail exploded.

He doubled to over 11 million chips, while Hewitt dropped to just 10.4 million.

Lamb Check-Raises O'Dea

In middle position, Eoghan O'Dea raised to 1.2 million. Ben Lamb made the call from the small blind and the two saw the flop come down {K-Clubs}{9-Spades}{6-Spades}. Lamb checked and O'Dea fired 1.3 million. Lamb check-raised to 3.25 million and won the pot. He's back over 30 million while O'Dea dropped to under 40 million.

The World Plays Poker

Nível 36 : 250,000/500,000, 50,000 ante

Depending on how tonight concludes, this year's November Nine will see either seven or eight different countries represented among the final nine players, most likely a record for WSOP Main Event final tables. (Check out the profiles from earlier in the evening to see who is from where.)

A quick search back through the last decade shows the most countries represented at a single WSOP ME final table during the 2000s to have been six (in 2007).

2010 - U.S. (6), Canada (2), Italy (1)
2009 - U.S. (7), England (1), France (1)
2008 - U.S. (5), Canada (2), Denmark (1), Russia (1)
2007 - U.S. (4), Denmark (1), South Africa (1), Russia (1), Canada (1), England (1)
2006 - U.S. (8), Sweden (1)
2005 - U.S. (6), Australia (1), Ireland (1), Sweden (1)
2004 - U.S. (8), Sweden (1)
2003 - U.S. (8), Iran (1)
2002 - U.S. (6), England (2), Ireland (1)
2001 - U.S. (7), Spain (1), Germany (1)

In 2000, all nine of the final tablists were American.

Do It Hewitt

Ben Lamb opened to 1.2 million from the hijack position, Martin Staszko called in the cutoff, and John Hewitt moved all in for 10.325 million on the button. The action folded back to Lamb who mucked, Staszko released, and Hewitt picked up the pot.

Jacks Kind to Giannetti

Matt Giannetti doubles up.
Matt Giannetti doubles up.

Pius Heinz opened to 1.1 million from middle position, Ben Lamb three-bet to 3.1 million on his direct left, and the action folded to Matt Giannetti who moved all in for 8.4 million on the button. The blinds released, Heinz folded, and Lamb made the call.

Showdown

Lamb: {k-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Giannetti: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

Everyone was on their feet, calling for various cards as the flop fell {10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}.

"Running hearts!" one of Lamb's railbirds shouted.

Not only was the turn a heart, it was the {7-Hearts}, giving Lamb outs to a straight as well.

"Aching heart! Aching heart! Aching heart!" was the chant from the rail.

Giannetti's jacks held once gain as the {a-Spades} bricked on the river, doubling him to 19 million chips.

Bounahra Doubles Through Hewitt; Hewitt Severely Short

John Hewitt raised to 1.1 million and Badih Bounahra moved all in for 9.3 million. Hewitt made the call and tabled the {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. Bounahra held a dominating {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}.

The flop, turn and river ran out {9-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and Bounahra doubled up. Hewitt was left with just over four million in chips and is severely short now.

Giannetti Gets Aggressive

Martin Staszko opened to 1.2 million from under the gun, Matt Giannetti called in middle position, and Eoghan O'Dea three-bet to 3.6 million. The action folded back to Staszko who released, and then Giannetti tanked before four-betting all in. O'Dea immediately mucked, and Giannetti took down the pot.
