Straight Flush for Nguyen

Bolivar Palacios and Khoa Nguyen were in action on the turn with the board reading {Q-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. Palacios fired a bet on the turn worth 200,000 and Nguyen called to see the {9-Diamonds} fall on the river.

"Three-hundred thousand," announced Palacios with the board now complete.

Nguyen thought for a little bit and then announced, "Eight-hundred thousand."

"How much more is it?" asked Palacios after a few seconds.

"Five-hundred thousand," replied the dealer.

Palacios then tanked for about half a minute more. He then made the call. After he did, he announced that he had ace-king, but Nguyen tabled the {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} for a straight flush. Nguyen won the pot and Palacios was left steaming.

Jaconetti Works the Deck

Nível 23 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

We didn't see how the money got in, but there was already more than 100,000 pulled into the middle when Ryan Jaconetti got his last 453,000 into the middle with {A-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}. He can't really be faulted for going with that hand, but Julian Stuer woke up with {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds}, and he was poised for the knockout with his big stack.

Jaconetti stood up to sweat his fate, and he was giving play-by-play updates to a lady standing on the rail, about a table length away. "Ace-king against aces," he pointed out. The cameras encircled the table, and the dealer ran out a pretty useless {4-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {3-Spades} flop. "We need a ten," Jaconetti announced, rocking back and forth on his heels nervously.

Turn: {10-Diamonds}

Someone at the table said, "The turn card always brings a sweat," and he was right.

"Jack for the miracle," Jaconetti pleaded, down to his last card.

River: {J-Spades}!

"Ohhhhhh!" Jaconetti yelled, stampeding over to the rail for hugs and kisses. "Championship!" he yelled. When he returns to the table, he'll have more than a million chips again.

"I practice that so much, too," he joked with Stuer after the hand.

Oldcroft Retired

Nível 23 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

Thomas Oldcroft -- who happens to be one of the older players left in the field -- was just now all in for his last 300,000 with {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} and up against Guillaume Darcourt's {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}.

"The old fart is all in!" cried Oldcroft, who we understand won his Main Event seat via a blackjack tournament. He then noted how his hand -- king and queen -- could be said to represent himself and his wife.

The board ran out {3-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{4-Spades}{6-Spades}, spelling the end of Oldcroft's run. "I've had the time of my life," he said as he rose to shake his tablemates' hands before departing. Darcourt now has 1.68 million.

Melikian Cracks Lindgren's Kings

Nível 23 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

Ara Melikian open-raised all in from under the gun with his last 349,000 and it folded all of the way back around to Erick Lindgren in the big blind who instantly called the raise. Melikian had {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}, but Lindgren had woken up with {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades}.

Then came the flop -- {Q-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} -- giving Melikian a set but leaving Lindgren with a gutshot straight draw. The turn and river brought a couple of eights -- {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} -- and Melikian's hand held.

Melikian has 762,000 now, while Lindgren slips to 995,000.

Odea Five-Bet Shoves, Doubles

Nelson Robinson opened from the cutoff, Eoghan Odea three-bet to 130,000 on the button, and Robinson four-bet to 250,000. Odea went into the tank, staring at Robinson, and eventually moved all in for 1,121,000. Robinson took his glasses off, gave Odea a once-over, and made the call.

Robinson: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
Odea: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Odea was in good shape, and the {q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} flop gave him a commanding lead in the hand. Robinson was drawing dead after the {4-Clubs} turned, and the {9-Spades} completed the board. Odea successfully doubled to 2.3 million chips, while Odea slipped to just 1.25 million.

If You're Palihapitiya and You Know it, Clap Your Hands

Nível 23 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

Wai Cheng opened the pot to 52,000 from middle position, and Mike DeGilio spent a long while in the tank next door. He asked Cheng how much he was playing (425,000 behind), tanked some more, then folded. The table passed all the way around to Chamath Palihapitiya in the big blind. He quickly moved all in for 361,000 total, and Cheng, hating life right now, made the reluctant call for most of his own chips.

Showdown
Cheng: {7-Spades} {7-Hearts}
Palihapitiya: {K-Spades} {K-Hearts}

Dominated and suit-dominated, Cheng needed some help to avoid the crippling loss. The board ran out blanks, though, coming {5-Clubs}{q-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{9-Hearts}, and that secures the double for Palihapitiya. He's back up to 758,000 now, while Cheng drops all the way down into the basement with just 116,000 chips left.

Czuczor Runs Queens Into Darcourt's Rockets

Nível 23 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

Marton Czuczor opened with a raise from the hijack seat, then Guillaume Darcourt reraised 112,000 more from the small blind. It folded back to Czuczor who made it 266,000 to go, and Darcourt called.

Both players checked the {J-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{9-Spades} flop. The turn brought the {6-Spades} and a bet of 350,000 from Darcourt which Czuczor called.

The river was the {7-Clubs}. Darcourt checked, Czuczor moved all in for his last 779,000, and Darcourt called. Czuczor showed {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}, but Darcourt's {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} were best.

Czuczor hits the rail, while Darcourt now has about 2.9 million.

Nguyen Applying Pressure

Action began when Bolivar Palacios made it 53,000 from the cutoff and was flat called by Khoa Nguyen from the button. Marc-Andre Ladouceur decided to three-bet the action from the small blind, making it 148,000 to go. Both players called and there were three to the flop.

The flop came {8-Hearts}{10-Spades}{2-Spades} and Ladouceur continued out with a bet of 165,000. Palacios tanked for over a minute before finally mucking his hand. Rather quickly, Nguyen counted out chips for a raise and pushed 435,000 into the middle. Ladouceur made the call and the turn came {6-Hearts}. Ladouceur checked and Nguyen shoved out a bet of 750,000.

Ladouceur eventually tossed his hand and Nguyen scooped a nice sized pot, bringing him over 3,400,000 in chips.

Bonita Flushed Away

Chris Bonita in Day 5 action.
Chris Bonita in Day 5 action.

Action folded to John Esposito on the button and he put in a raise to 55,000. The small blind got out of the way, but Chris Bonita responded by moving all in from the big blind for around 680,000. Esposito didn't have much more than that, so he thought long and hard before making the call.

Showdown
Bonita: {A-Hearts}{4-Clubs}
Esposito: {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

"Well, no matter what happens, I got it in good," Esposito said as both players waited for the ESPN crew to arrive. Once the cameras were in place, the dealer was given the go ahead and put out the flop: {8-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}

"Come on, put a club up there and end this," Esposito boisterously stated. Sure enough, the {9-Clubs} spiked on the turn to leave Bonita drawing dead. After the {J-Spades} was put out on the river, the dealer counted down the stacks to confirm that Bonita was eliminated from the tournament.
