Gazes Takes a Severe Hit

Kristy Gazes
Kristy Gazes

Kristy Gazes opened the action at the featured table by raising to 6,100. Max Heinzelmann made the call and it folded around to [Removed:113] who moved all in for 70,100. Gazes made the call and Heinzelmann folded.

Gazes: {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}
[Removed:115]: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}

Gazes was drawing slim going to the flop and was brought bad news when it came {4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. She would need running jacks to win the pot and did not get there as the turn and river fell {6-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. [Removed:115] doubled up to 150,200 while Gazes dropped to 61,800.

Sorel Slips

Nível 13 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

A player on the button opened with a raise to 6,500, and Sorel Mizzi reraised to 16,500 from the small blind. The big blind then repopped it to 60,300 total, forcing out the original raiser. Mizzi called instantly.

Mizzi tabled {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}, while his opponent was hoping his {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}. Five cards later -- {6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{J-Diamonds} -- the tens were still good and Mizzi's opponent doubled up. Meanwhile, Mizzi slips to 90,000.

Poirier Over a Milli

Patrick Poirier - Over a Million Chips
Patrick Poirier - Over a Million Chips

A player in middle position opened to 5,300, Patrick Poirier three-bet to 13,500, and the action folded back to his opponent who four-bet to 25,300. Poirier then five-bet to 55,000, sending his opponent deep into the tank.

The player leaned back into his chair, put his arms behind his head, and stared down Poirier. He then leaned forward but his hands on his face, and moved all in for 135,000.

Poirier snapped it off.

Poirier: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Opponent: {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

It was your classic race situation. The flop ({3-Clubs}{q-Spades}{4-Clubs}) and turn ({6-Spades}) changed nothing, but the {a-Hearts} slammed on the river to give Poirier the elimination. His opponent gave a small speech for the cameras before leaving, while Poirier stacked his newfound chips.

He now has well over a million, making him our first player in the 2011 WSOP Main Event with a seven-figure stack.

Shahade Loses a Few

Nível 13 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

A player in middle position opened for 5,800, and Jennifer Shahade reraised to 15,000 from the cutoff. It folded back around and the original raiser leaned over to ask how much Shahade had behind. "About 155," came the response. He made the call.

The flop came all hearts -- {4-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{2-Hearts} -- and both players checked. The turn brought the {4-Clubs} and a check from Shahade's opponent. She bet 20,000, and he quickly called.

The river brought the {K-Diamonds} and a quick bet of 20,000 from the middle position player. Shahade thought about a minute, then let her hand go. She sits with about 135,000 at present.
