Sweet or Sarwer

Chess prodigy Jeff Sarwer who has dressed today as if he came straight from Mardi Gras (or maybe he's going straight to Mardi Gras at the end of the day or when he busts? - Who knows, but that bright green t-shirt really hurts my eyes).

Anyway, Sarwer had bet 3,875 on a {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} board against the button, only to be raised to 11,000. Sarwer had responded by moving all in for around 30,000. Sarwer then got out a plastic ring from his bag which he claimed was 'powerful' and it did look as though it may have once belonged to one of the Wonder Twin. Sarwer though stated he bought it from a street vendor in Barcelona.

"It's meant to flash," laughed Sarwer as he attempted to harness the ring's power into willing his opponent to make the wrong choice. It seemed as though it wasn't working (new batteries needed?) and Sarwer instead made an offer to show his opponent one card if the latter folded. This was a much more preferable deal for the button, who folded and Sarwer showed him the {4-Clubs} as a result.

“Must Be Nice”

We were near another table when we heard Keith Hawkins loudly say, “Must be nice” and wondered what he was referring to. So we went over to his table and saw Chris Bjorin raking in the chips from a previous pot.

We stuck around for the next hand to see Hawkins raise to 1,100 from under the gun, Bjorin call as the next to act and then the cutoff and small blind joining as well. All four players checked the {A-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {6-Hearts} flop and Hawkins led for 2,600 on the {5-Spades} turn when it was checked to him. Bjorin and the small blind folded but the cutoff called as the two saw the {K-Diamonds} on the river. Hawkins checked this time and the cutoff moved all in for around 7,000. Hawkins smiled and quickly folded as his opponent took down the pot.

Coren Not Flushed With Success

Victoria Coren was weighing up her options on a {10-Spades} {K-Spades} {5-Clubs} {4-Spades} {2-Clubs} river after her opponent had check-called a 5,500 bet on the turn. Finally, she decided to check back and her opponent flipped {A-Spades} {9-Spades} for the nuts, Coren mucked her hand and later tweeted that she had flopped a set, managing to save herself from losing more chips on the river.

This Tournament Just Got A Little Less Beautiful

Tatjana Pasalic just got her short stack of about 7,000 all in with {q-Spades} {j-Spades} . She was up against the {5-Clubs} {5-Spades} of her opponent as the break clock began ticking. Unfortunately for her, ESPN wanted to catch her bust out or double up and she had to wait it out as the camera crew made their way over to her table.

Hardly able to look and burying her head into the chest of McLean Karr, she couldn't catch up on the {3-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} flop. The turn {k-Clubs} had her and her friend rooting for another king but it was not to be. The river was slowly peeled as the {a-Spades} and Pasalic was ousted from the tournament.
