The second day of the 2017 WSOP International Circuit Main Event in Casino de Marrakech is in the books! 23 out of 153 players survived a gruelling ten-hour day, which featured many miraculous rundowns and sudden twists and turns. At the end, it was Julio Sanchez of Spain who claimed the chip lead. Sanchez bagged 1,460,000 and edged out Romain Lewis by less than one big blind (1,456,000). Ricardo Manquant, who won the Main Event here in Marrakech two years ago, sits in third with 1,230,000.

Heading into the final day, the top 5 is as follows:

#PlayerCountryChip Count
1Julio SanchezSpain1,460,000
2Romain LewisFrance1,456,000
3Ricardo ManquantFrance1,230,000
4Teresio CiancanelliItaly1,110,000

The action on Day 2 started furiously right off the bat, with over 30 players busting in the first two hours. Clyde Tjauw Foe, Barny Boatman and Aurelie Quelain were among those who fell early. Selim Oulekki had a way better start and catapulted to the top of the standings in the first hour. Halfway through the day, a rivered one-outer set the French high staker back, but he managed to come back and finish the day in 7th place (837,000).

In the second two-hour block of the day, French soccer star Camel Meriem went down. He was joined by the likes of Samy Salah, Angelique Grasso and, surprisingly, end of Day 1 chipleader Alexandre Viard. Viard couldn't get anything going on the second day and lost all his chips before the money was reached.

Said El Yousfi was one of the last players to go home empty-handed. The 2016 WSOP Global Championship winner lost with pocket jacks against a king-high flush draw five spots before the money. His opponent, Roland Rozal, hit his flush on the turn to send El Yousfi to the rail. Sarah Herzali also finished just shy of the money when her pocket jacks lost out against the optional queen-five.

AFter a long bubble phase, it was Frederic Rizzo who ended up as the last player without a cash. Rizzo shoved ace-seven into ace-jack and couldn't catch up. After Rizzo's elimination, players quickly dropped like flies. Abdelhadi Kondah, Chris Da Silva and Alexandre Reard were among those to fall, with Reard's elimination being extra brutal. Holding pocket fours, Reard flopped a set of fours on a king-eight-four board against Arron Fletcher's ace-king. The board ran out eight-king to give Fletcher a bigger full house on the river. It was a massive pot, which helped Fletcher to eventually finish the day in 6th place with 878,000 in chips.

Seasoned pro's Fabrice Soulier and Jean Montury both finished just shy of Day 3. Soulier missed a flush draw against Sanchez' set of sevens, which proved to be one of the pivotal pots in Sanchez' eventual chip lead. Montury got it in drawing dead with king-nine against Manquant's king-ten on a board containing a king and a ten. Manquant, who is in the hunt for his second gold WSOP Circuit Ring after winning the inaugural edition two years ago, had a late surge on Day 2 that put him over the one million in chips mark.

The 23 remaining players will start their final day at 1 p.m. and levels will be 75 minutes for the remainder of the tournament. The winner at the end of the night will claim the massive first price of 1,400,000 MAD, the equivalent of €130,755. The blinds will start at 10,000/20,000 with a 3,000-ante. Follow all the excitement on PokerNews as we crown a new WSOP International Circuit Main Event winner on Sunday night.

Jean Montury Eliminated in 27th Place (40,000 MAD)

Nível 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Jean Montury
Jean Montury

EPT11 Malta Main Event winner Jean Montury has been eliminated from the Main Event. A short stacked Montury opened to 35,000 on the button and both blinds defended, including Ricardo Manquant in the big blind. The flop came down {10-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades} and all players checked.

On the {K-Hearts} turn, both players checked to Montury, who committed himself with an 80% pot bet. The small blind folded, Manquant check-raised all in and Montury called with {K-}{9-}. Manquant, who won the inaugural WSOP Circuit Main Event here two years ago, tabled {K-}{10-} for top two pair. Montury was drawing dead and finished in 27th place.

Dimitri Sukhorukov Eliminated in 33rd Place (35,000 MAD)

Nível 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Dimitri Sukhorukov
Dimitri Sukhorukov

Dimitri Sukhorukov has found his demise at the hands of Julio Sanchez. Sanchez held {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and fired three bullets on a near perfect rundown of {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}.

Sukhorukov held {K-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and called every street, with the last barrel being for his tournament life. His top pair didn't cut it against Sanchez' flush, ending the Russian WSOP Circuit Ring winner's run in 33rd place.

Fauvel Can't Win Classic Flip

Nível 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Caroline Fauvel
Caroline Fauvel

Caroline Fauvel, fresh off a huge score of €87,000 by winning last month's WPTN in Deauville, was unable to win the mother of all coinflips.

After Matthias Widmann had opened on the hijack, Fauvel shoved all in for 240,000 on the button holding {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}. Widmann made the call with {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades} and remained ahead after the {7-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{9-Spades}{2-Clubs} board failed to improve Fauvel.

The last remaining female in the tournament finished in 40th place and was also the last one to receive 32,000 MAD.

Another Miracle On Fifth Street

Nível 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Alexandre Reard
Alexandre Reard

It's the day of the runner-runners, as Alexandre Reard just found out. With pocket fours, Reard flopped bottom set on a {K-}{8-}{4-} flop and got action from Arron Fletcher. On the {8-} turn, the rest of Fletcher's stack went in, who was in dire straights with {A-}{K-}

After being a 98% (!) dog on the flop, Fletcher hit runner-runner perfect by spiking the {K-} on the river, improving to a better full house. Reard let out a heavy sigh as the 590,000 pot got shipped to his British opponent.

Sarah Herzali

Just before the break, French pro Sarah Herzali busted from the tournament. According to our French colleagues, Herzali lost her stack in two parts. In the first hand, she ran into the nut flush, setting her back to 15 big blinds.

In the next hand, she went in with pocket jacks, but busted against queen-five when a queen on the flop sealed her fate.

Said El Yousfi to the Rail

Nível 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Said El Yousfi
Said El Yousfi

2016 WSOP Global Championship winner Said El Yousfi will not be adding another big cash yet. On a {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop, El Yousfi had bet 40,000 and was facing a 150,000 shove from Roland Rozel.

El Yousfi, who played nearly the same stack as Rozel, agonised for several minutes before flicking in a calling chip.

Roland Rozel: {K-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Said El Yousfi: {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts}

Rozel needed to hit his overcard or one of the clubs to survive and did so on the {9-Clubs} turn. El Yousfi had a redraw to a full house, but the {3-Hearts} river wasn't the four-outer he needed. El Yousfi was left with 1,5bb, which he lost in the next hand.

Montury Doubles Big Through Haziza

Nível 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Jean Montury
Jean Montury

A hefty pot had already brewed between Jean Montury (UTG) and David Haziza (BB), when action was on the latter. On a {6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} board, Haziza shoved all in and Montury snap-called his remaining 107,500 off with {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}.

A furious Haziza flung his counterfeited {7-}{6-} open in the muck and had to surrender two-thirds of his remaining stack to the French EPT winner. With the massive double, Montury is now among the chipleaders.
