Back at it Again! RGPS Returns to Tunica for $600 Main Event!

Loi Hoang

For the third time this year, the RunGood Poker Series has found its way to The Horseshoe Casino and Hotel in Tunica, Mississippi. After a successful week of preliminary events, that saw all of the prize pool guarantees surpassed, the weekend kicks off with Flight Day 1a of The $600 RunGood Main Event beginning at 6 p.m. tonight. This event boasts a $200,000 prize pool guarantee and given the trend of the events this week, the number is almost certainly to be surpassed.

The last time RGPS was in town back in September, it was Loi Hoang who bested a record-breaking field of 718 to claim the title and career-best score of $55,394. Time will tell as Hoang will look for a title defense in the event as other regulars look to make their mark on this tournament.

All the usual suspects have appeared around the area this week, with many of them finding success in earlier tournaments. RunGood ambassador Cody Stanford has already collected a title this week in the Ambassador Bounty event while the other ambassadors Bart Bogard, Ashley “PokerFaceAsh” Frank, Preston McEwen, and Michael Sanders take this as a challenge and will use The Main Event as a battlefield. It is also worth mentioning that the leading RGPS Player-of-the-Year Brian "Golden Blazer" Winter is also looking for his SIXTH ring this season and will surely be deep in the mix this weekend.

Players will begin the tournament with 30,000 chips with levels beginning at 100/200 and a 200 big blind ante. Levels will escalate once every 30 minutes, with a 10-minute break occurring every four levels. Players will have the option to enter as many times as they wish in the first eight levels of the tournament. Play will continue until the field plays down 12.5%, then the remaining players will bag up for Sunday, September 3rd where they will all be in the money. Players who do not bag on this flight will be able to play the remaining two flights on Saturday, November 11th.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for all updates regarding the RunGood Poker Series.

Stanford Doesn't Need the Ace!

After the dealer accidentally revealed the A that was to be given to Cody Stanford, the card was replaced and Stanford opened to 700 anyway.

"I was gonna bet regardless of the ace," he explained as action folded around to Kenny Martin who three-bet to 2,000 from the small blind.

Stanford made the call and the two went heads-up to a flop of 86J.

That's when the madness started...

Martin led out for 3,000 but then Stanford raised to 7,000, to which Martin re-raised to 23,000.

"Well, you're either really goof luck or really bad luck," Stanford told PokerNews, "I'm all in."

Martin quickly made the call for the additional 9,000 to put him at risk and the cards were tabled.

Cody Stanford: 88
Kenny Martin: QQ

Stanford was well in the lead with his flopped set of eights but wasn't out of the woods quite yet as Martin could still hit a queen or a runner-runner straight.

The turn 6 improved him instantly to a full house, so he only then needed to worry about a queen hitting, but the river came the brick 7 and he was awarded the pot for a big double-up.

"Dealer of the Year award!" Stanford thanked the dealer, "if I would have had the ace-eight of diamonds I would have been in real trouble there!"

Bogard Bounces Back

After busting out from his first bullet, Bart Bogard was back in the mix and was involved with another hand when he called a bet of 4,000 from Sean Lynn on a board of 3J4K.

JW Carter then check-raised all in for around 18,000 and Lynn got out of the way while Bogard quickly made the call to put him at risk.

JW Carter: K10
Bart Bogard: AK

Carter sighed as he realized he was in bad shape and the river fell the 9 to send him on his way as Bogard raked in the pot for an essential double-up.
