2020 WCOOP
2020 WCOOP

This is what everyone has been waiting for, the final Sunday of the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker traditionally has the Main Events on the schedule for that day, and this year it isn't any different. At 7:05 p.m. CEST, WCOOP-72-M: $530 NLHE [8-Max, Main Event] is slated to kick off with an amazing prize pool of $2,000,0000 which will ensure many players will flock to the tournament.

According to the poker archives, there was no Medium buy-in for the Main Event ever so the eventual champion of this event will go into the history books as the inaugural one. This year, the tournament has been spread out over four days and with 195 completed events and over $68 million handed out in the prize pools already, a nice chunk will be added today.

Currently leading the Medium buy-in leaderboard is Rinat "Zapahzamazki" Lyapin followed by Murilo "Muka82" Figueiredo, Yuri "theNERDguy" Dzivielevski, Konstantin "krakukra" Maslak, and Jussi "calvin7v " Nevanlinna in the top five. The top 15 of that leaderboard will get rewarded with the winner walking away with an extra $8,500. Lyapin is also leading the overall leaderboard where he stands a chance of winning $25,000 plus a pretty trophy. Dzivielevski is trailing him there by 115 points so there's still all to play for.

Players will get 100,000 chips in their starting stacks and can reenter twice during the late registration period which lasts 24 hours. Day 1 features 25-minute levels and the players need to play 16 levels before they go on break for Day 2. Day 2 is set to start at 7:10 p.m. CEST on Monday, September 21 and the level duration will be reduced to 20 minutes according to the tournament lobby.

Day 2 will end when there are 80 players left and they will resume play at the usual time of 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22. Play will continue until the final table has been reached. And those 9 players will then return on Wednesday, September 23 at 7:05 p.m. to battle it out for the lion-share of the prize pool.

PokerNews will be following along with all the action every day, so make sure to keep up to date right here.

“The tournament was very intense.”

So said Vitor “Vitorbrasil” Moreira when we asked him about Event #48-M of the 2020 World Championship of Online Poker.

It was a $530 buy-in no-limit hold’em event played eight-handed in the progressive knockout format. It attracted 3,856 entries, building a huge prize pool of $1.928 million. And some of online poker’s toughest and most consistent performers were there at the end.

“When playing a buy-in of this value, it’s always very challenging,” says Moreira.

The first day went well for the Brazilian. “I was able to maintain a good stack from the beginning,” says Moreira. “I eliminated several players and was able to move forward safely.”
