Day 1 of the PokerStars WCOOP-72-M: $530 NLHE [8-Max, Main Event] has come to an end after 16 levels of 25 minutes had been played. During those first 16 levels, 6,500 entries were collected to create a prize pool of $3,250,000 which easily surpasses the initial $2,000,000 guarantee that was set.

Brazil's Guilherme "Guizãoo_" Carmo claimed the chip lead with 1,786,242 and won a bunch of those chips when he took out Alen "lilachaa" Bilic with a full house. Carmo is followed in the counts by Eelis "EEE27" Pärssinen who jumped toward the top when he eliminated "OMGitsMacsim" when he turned the straight against the top pair and flush draw of the latter.

Completing the top five are "Sektor17" (1,319,456), "Netstorm" (1,268,460), and Adam "ISmellToast" Crawford with 1,247,007. But with over 2,000 players returning for Day 2 and the late registration still open, many more familiar names and faces are still in the race.

Lonnie "thx4urm0n3y" Hallett, PokerStars Ambassador Ramon "RamonColillas" Colillas, Artem "veeea" Vezhenkov, Sami "Lrslzk" Kelopuro, Sergei "Futti18" Koliakov, Adrian "Amadi_017" Mateos, and Cristian "Progre69" Sampaoli are just some of the players who can be found in the top 50.

Today's Action

Within the first minute of the day, Tatiana "Mysters_Y" Barausova was responsible for the first bustout when she took out Cristian "cstival" Stival who had turned a flush but Barausova had rivered a full house. This was a sign of things to come as the eliminations kept coming in at a quick pace.

Rodrigo “rodrigorpv” Valente, Paul "pvas2" Vas Nunes, Felipe "Lagrecasso" Baraky Tavares, Pavels "Rigapols81" Spirins, Guillaume "Nolet20" Nolet, Andy "wiisssppppaa" Taylor, and Tudor "tdr01" Lazar are just some of the more of the familiar names who got eliminated throughout the day.

Joel "jvieiradias8" Dias, Ignat "0Human0" Liviu, Dennys "dennysramos2" Ramos, Jamie "Ship It 2010" O'Connor, Teun "tinnoemulder" Mulder, Matt "OLD TIME GIN" Stone, Marty "TheLipoFund" Mathis, Mike "SirWatts" Watson, Guntis "poker@luffyD" Aleskins, Anton "Bomber&Granater" Wigg, Bert "girafganger7" Stevens, and Dominik "Bounatirou" Nitsche for example won't be back for Day 2 as they failed to hit any targets with any of their three bullets.

Plan for Day 2

When the players return for Day 2 at 7:10 p.m. CEST on Monday, September 21, they and any new players who reenter or register late before the start will play Level 17 which features a small blind of 3,000, a big blind of 6,000, and a running ante of 750. The level duration will be reduced to 20 minutes and play will continue until there are 80 players left for Day 3.

PokerNews will be there from the start until the day breaks again so make sure to come back to follow along to see who will be making the deep runs.
