Calvin Anderson Bags a Top Stack After Day 1b of $25,500 MILLIONS World

Nível 8 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Calvin Anderson
Calvin Anderson

It was a much busier day inside the convention center at Baha Mar Resort in the beautiful Bahamas for Day 1b of the $25,500 MILLIONS World. The players came out in waves for what could be one of the biggest Super High Rollers ever and it's all happening at the Caribbean Poker Party. There were over 200 entries throughout the day, capping out at 205 and just 134 players surviving.

When all the dust settled, Calvin Anderson emerged as one of the big stacks heading into Day 2 with 3,700,000 chips. The sudden jolt up the leaderboard came on the backend of a double knockout where he eliminated Sorel Mizzi and Ognjen Sekularac. Anderson had the big blind special, nine-deuce, and made a full house against two premium hands to take over the lead. He sailed to the finish from there and will be in a great position when Day 2 fires up.

The American's three biggest scores have all come at the World Series of Poker with two of those being gold bracelet victories. A deep run in this high roller event could be an impressive score to add to his resume of over $2.1 million in career earnings.

Anderson also had to deal with Geraldo Cesar at his table and both players held two of the bigger stacks of the tournament heading into the last level. They battled it out in a couple of hands with Cesar coming out on top both times and taking over the chip lead. Cesar is a bit unknown to the poker world and especially the high roller scene, with just $40,000 in career earnings. Most of his tournament cashes have come here in the Bahamas or in his home country of Brazil. Cesar will take the overall chip lead into Day 2 with 4,315,000 chips.

There was a much bigger buzz in the building when the action got underway with over 40 players taking their seats at the start of play. That number continued to rise at a rapid pace and within no time, the field for Day 1b escalated over 100 entries. Ali Imsirovic broke out into the early chip lead with some dominating poker and had accumulated over faltered chips at one point. However, he faltered in the latter half of the day and will head into Day 2 as one of the short stacks.

One of the most exciting hands of the day came in the result of King's Casino owner Leon Tsoukernik. There was a three-way all in on the flop with Tsoukernik on the short stack. Tsoukernik's three-four suited turned a straight and he held on for a triple up. That gave the high-stakes businessman all the confidence he needed to build a healthy chip stack of 3,005,000 heading into tomorrow.

Leon Tsoukernik

Some other big names to make it through include Mike Leah (2,775,000), Matt Berkey (2,640,000), Seth Davies (2,625,000), Rainer Kempe (2,510,000), Ryan Riess (2,415,000), and Richard Seymour (1,100,000). A couple of the partypoker pros who found success at the table were Joni Jouhkimainen (1,350,000), and Sam Trickett (1,000,000).

Late registration will remain open for the first four levels of Day 2 to give any of those that were eliminated a couple more chances to run up a stack. The chips are expected to be flying around a rapid pace right from the get go with everyone given the opportunity of potentially two more buy-ins tomorrow. There are a total of 282 entries from the Day 1 flights and with a massive $10 million guaranteed prizepool looming, it provides a great incentive for many players to take a shot at glory.

The action is scheduled to get underway at 12 p.m. EST again and the PokerNews live reporting team will be here to bring you more coverage of some high roller action.

Anderson Scores a Double KO to Take the Lead

Nível 7 : 7,000/14,000, 14,000 ante
Calvin Anderson

The cards were already spread out on the table and the dealer just announced, "Two seats open!" as two players stood up from their chairs. The board read {q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{2-Hearts}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts} and Ognjen Sekularac and Sorel Mizzi were walking away from the table.

"Bust," Sekularac said to one of his friends at a table next door. Sekularac had his {k-Spades}{k-Clubs} face up on the table but on the other side was Calvin Anderson with {9-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. Mizzi's cards were already in the muck but it would be tough to beat the full house of Anderson anyway. It was a classic big blind special for Anderson who cracked the big hands of Sekularac and Mizzi at the same time.

"That was a small pot," one player at the table said in sarcasm. Anderson stacked his heaps of chips and has taken over the chip lead with around 4.8 million. Nobody from Day 1a even cracked the 4 million chip mark and Anderson is within striking distance of the 5 million chip mark with around 90 minutes left in the day.

Yoon Closes the Gap on Imsirovic

Nível 6 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Brain Yoon
Brain Yoon

Just when it looked like Ali Imsirovic was going to run away with the chip lead on Day 1b, Brian Yoon had something else to say about that. The two players recently tangled in quite a massive pot that saw Yoon double up through the chip leader. Even though Imsirovic lost around 1,000,000 chips, he still holds the lead after six levels but the field has narrowed the gap.

Yoon moved into second place with his double up and there are still plenty of big names not far behind. David Eldridge has been quietly going about his business and has accumulated nearly 2.5 million chips himself. Ryan Riess is also climbing up the leaderboard while staying out of many of the big pots.

A few more notable entries to take to the felt as of late include Koray Aldemir, Davidi Kitai, Benjamin Pollak, Maria Lampropulos, and Tobias Ziegler. The total number of entries has grown to 186 at the end of level six with 147 players remaining. The players are about to head on their last 15-minute break of the night before the final two levels are played out.

Tsoukernik Doubles Up with Rags

Nível 4 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Leon Tsoukernik
Leon Tsoukernik

Eduards Kudrjavcevs opened to 20,000 in middle position and was called by Leon Tsoukernik on the button and the small blind. Michael Sklenicka three-bet to 125,000 from the big blind and all three players called.

"If I hit something, I'm going all in," Tsoukernik exclaimed with only 227,000 behind. The flop fell {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Spades} and the action checked to Tsoukernik who kept his word and moved all in. The small blind folded and Sklenick also quickly shoved all in for 919,000. Kudrjavcevs asked for a count and then called after a minute.

Leon Tsoukernik: {4-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Eduards Kudrjavcevs: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Michael Sklenicka: {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

"I've already won! Ship it here!" Tsoukernik shouted, still needing to complete his straight to have a hope. The dealer burned and turned the {6-Hearts} and Tsoukernik did indeed make a straight. The {2-Clubs} on the river changed nothing and Tsoukernik scored himself a full triple up.

Kudrjavcevs, meanwhile, took down the larger side pot and Sklenicka was eliminated.

Zajmovic on Fire

Nível 4 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Ema Zajmovic
Ema Zajmovic

Ema Zajmovic just recently recorded her biggest live tournament score at the partypoker WPT Main Event in Montreal, Canada. Zajmovic finished in second place after running a triple-barrel bluff in a hand that went viral to finish the tournament. Zajmovic has never backed down from a challenge and here she is playing in her first $25,000 high roller event. The spotlight doesn't seem to face the Canadian as she is already closing in on the 2,000,000 chip mark early on in Day 1b.

The field has continued to grow through the first half of the day with the total number of entries reaching 147 thus far. Some other big names to join include Patrik Antonius, Stefan Schillhabel, Toby Lewis, Martin Kabrhel, and Michael Addamo.

Imsirovic is the Early Leader

Nível 3 : 3,000/7,000, 7,000 ante
Ali Imsirovic
Ali Imsirovic

Ali Imsirovic is recently coming off a Poker Masters title in September and appears to be carrying much of his confidence into the early going of the Caribbean Poker Party. Imsirovic was one of the first players to take a seat in the $25,500 MILLIONS World today and has accumulated over 2,200,000 in chips coming back from the first break of the day, good enough for the early chip lead.

Just a couple of months ago, Imsirovic broke through into the live poker scene with a spectacular showing at the Poker Masters in Las Vegas. He appeared at three final tables in the prestigious high roller series and managed to win two of them. In the $25,000 event, Imsirovic pocketed himself $462,000 for the win and just one day later he took down the $50,000 event for $799,000. That proved to be his largest scored to date and has helped move him over $2.5 million in career earnings.

Imsirovic conquered some of the greatest poker players in the world then and is looking to do the same now in what is shaping up to be one of the greatest $25,000 Super High Roller events ever.

Seymour Highlights the Latest Entries

Richard Seymour
Richard Seymour

The field has continued to grow at a rapid pace in the early going and the number of entries has increased to 64 at the end of the first level. Some of the more familiar names to recently take a seat include David Peters, John Racener, Adrian Mateos, and Laszlo Bujtas, who is better known as "omaha4rollz" as his online screen name.

Another familiar name to American football fans is Richard Seymour, a former defensive lineman for the New England Patriots. Seymour played in seven Pro Bowls, was named to five All-Pro teams, and captured three Super Bowl titles with the Patriots. After retiring from a game that he was considered to be one of the best at, Seymour has brought his competitive edge to the live poker scene.

While Seymour has yet to score his first big tournament win, he really enjoys playing in some of the toughest fields and testing his skills against some of the best in the world. He racked up his biggest score of $376,360 just last year in the Bahamas when he finished third in another $25,000 High Roller event. Seymour will be looking to better that performance on this trip and prove he is a force to be reckoned with on the field and on the felt.

Welcome Back to Day 1b of the $25,500 MILLIONS World

partypoker MILLIONS World continues at 12 p.m.
partypoker MILLIONS World continues at 12 p.m.

After a low-key opening day at the 2018 Caribbean Poker Party, things are about to ramp up today. There will be multiple events on the schedule as players pack into the convention center at the Baha Mar Resort in the Bahamas. While the $5,300 Main Event gets underway today, the focus here will be on Day 1b of the $25,500 MILLIONS World.

With an ambitious $10 million guaranteed prizepool, there is plenty of money up for grabs that will attract some of the best players from all around the world. There were a total of 77 entries on Day 1a and just 49 players making it through to Day 2. A total of 400 entries are needed to reach the guarantee and that leaves a lot of room for players who may not usually jump into a such a steep High Roller event.

It was a strong first day for the partypoker pros with eight of their team members finding a bag and moving on to Day 2. However, there are still plenty more who will likely be joining the field today including Marcel Luske, Bertrand Grospellier, Roberto Romanello, Joni Jouhkimainen, and chairman Mike Sexton.

When the action gets underway at 12 p.m. local time, the players will sit down with 1,000,000 chips. That translates into 200 big blinds with the blinds starting at 2,000/5,000 and a 5,000 button ante. The blinds levels will be 60-minutes in length with a 15-minute break after every two levels. The dinner break yesterday was reduced to a regular break and that will likely hold true for today as well.

Each player will be allowed to re-enter once per day, a maximum of six entries, should they choose to do so. With just eight levels on the schedule for today, late registration will remain open for the entirety. Late registration is available for 12 levels meaning that it will carry into Day 2 for four levels.
