Heat 4
Giuliano Bendinelli, who has won two and finished runner up in Heat 3 for Team Italy, was a little late.
Table two had no Italian player and George Danzer asked where he was.
Dario Sammartino, seated on Table 1, looked around and concluded "The great Bendinelli isn't here".
Bendinelli came not much later, having missed two hands tops.
Dan Smith limped under the gun for 100 and Vitaly Lunkin over limped from the hijack. Patrick Bruel limped the button and Giuliano Bendinelli completed from the small blind.
Big blind George Danzer had bigger plans, he raised it up to 700.
"Come on!" Oleksandr Gnatenko laughed, "Make it a limp reraise!"
After a few seconds Smith smiled and said, "Ok, I'll bite" before making it 2,000.
Action folded back to Danzer who called.
Both players checked .
The on the turn made Danzer bet 1,200 and Smith folded rather quickly.
Ami Barer begged neighbor Oleksii Khoroshenin to have him win the hand. "I need it" Barer said. "Not this hand" Khoroshenin answered.
"He just won the last one" Selbst added about Barer who indeed was victorious in the last heat.
Khoroshenin opened the small blind for 600 and Barer three bet to 1,425 from the big. Khoroshenin four bet to 2,600 and Barer five bet shoved. Khoroshenin instantly called.
Oleksii Khoroshenin:
Ami Barer:
The board ran out , giving Barer enough time to get something to eat if he hadn't already.
"You're doing great in a sense of hourly" Selbst needled. No back to back for Barer, he's the first one to bust in Heat 4.
The flop showed when Andrew Chen got Ole Schemion all in for his tournament life holding . Chen had a huge draw and was up against Schemion's .
The turn was the and the river the giving Team Germany the big double up on the feature table. Chen was left behind with very little chips and he's at risk to be knocked out first after winning his previous heat.
It's nine o' clock, it's already a long day, and there's a lot of play ahead. So what's better than to order a little drink? The players on table 1 sure agree as the waiter just brought wine and whisky for most of them.
"One more whisky" Haxton said when he was overlooked by the waiter the first time around.
In the meantime, Price opened for 500 and Philipp Gruissem on the button three bet to 1,225. Both blinds folded and Price made the call.
"I got the wine, I got the three bet pot in position," Gruissem laughed, "What more can you ask for?"
It wasn't the most interesting hand of the evening. Both players checked the entire board of and Price tabled . Gruissem showed so not only had he a nice red wine, he also got some extra chips. What a life!
"He had aces (points to Giuliano Bendinelli), I had jacks and Dan [Smith] had ace-king. We put our chips in to see what happened!" was how George Danzer explained to a few players on the feature table.
"The aces held! Can you believe that?" he continued.
The Team Germany players wasn't lying. All the chips went in preflop.
Bendinelli:
Danzer:
Smith:
The board ran . Smith busted and Danzer was left with a few thousand chips. Bendinelli is having some day!
Team UK's Sam Trickett really needs to win some points, but he just got a tough punch in the gut when Betrand Grospellier cracked his pocket aces.
Trickett raised under the gun plus two to 800 and Grospellier three-bet to 2,000 from his immediate left. The action folded back around to Trickett and he moved all in. Grospellier called to put his tournament life at risk for 9,450 total.
Grospellier:
Trickett:
The board ran out and Grospellier hit a flush to double up. Trickett is now one of the short stacks with Team UK in serious trouble of being the first country knocked out.
