Vieira Gets Lucky

Nível 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

On a flop of {Q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{9-Spades} we saw Joao Vieira check from the small blind. The player in the hijack checked as well and the cutoff made a bet of 650. Vieira check raised to 2,025 and the hijack instantly folded. The cutoff made the call though.

Vieira bet another 2,200 on the {A-Spades} turn and the cutoff called once more. The {10-Clubs} fell on the river and Vieira thought for some time before checking. The cutoff checked behind and mucked reluctantly after Vieira showed {8-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for two pair.

With these odd chips being used here, it's sometimes hard to tell how much a particular player has. If we counted correctly, the Portuguese high roller has just under 40,000 while his opponent was bad beated back to about 7,200.

Big Blind El-Hoss

Nível 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Amedeo Chieregato opened from early position for 500 and picked up three callers including the button, small bind Dmitry Yurasov and big blind Ghassan El-Hoss.

A flop of {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{j-Clubs} saw it checked to Chieregato who fired out 1,000. Yurasov mucked but the other players called.

The turn {9-Diamonds} saw Chieregato continue to apply pressure with a bet of 3,000 and this time it was only El-Hoss who continued in the pot. The river saw a check from El-Hoss and the white flag from Chieregato who glumly nodded when El-Hoss showed him the {j-Spades}{5-Hearts} bad news.

Frankland Frankly Can't Call

Mathew Frankland
Mathew Frankland

We missedn the pre flop action, but on a flop of {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} Mathew Frankland bet out 850 from the hijack after two checks.

The player in the big blind check raised to 2,800 and the player under the gun instantly folded. Frankland called though, and the Brit called the 3,500 bet on the {2-Spades} turn as well. The {10-Diamonds} completed the board and the big blind bet out 5,500. Frankland thought about it for just a bit before releasing his hand.

What did Frankland have? Will the puns with Mathew Frankland's last name ever stop? We will never know.

Vamplew Bites Back

Nível 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

The action folded round to Anton Astapau in the small blind who was sitting on a healthy stack of nearly double his initial chips. He opened for 600 and big blind David Vamplew made the call. Astapau had a look at Vaplew’s stack of 16,000 before they went to a flop of {2-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}.

Astapau check-called a bet of 700 from Vamplew before they went to the turn card {a-Spades}. A further check saw Vamplew continue for 2,500. Astapau weighed it up for a couple minutes before electing to give the Scottish pro the benefit of the doubt and passing his cards to the dealer.

Monfort's Aces Eliminate Tedeschi

Nível 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

We arrived at the table in time to see Erich Tedeschi all in for what looked to be around 17,000 against PokerStars Team Online Pro Ronan Monfort. The flop read {7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{A-Diamonds} and the hands were revealed to show Monfort out in front.

Monfort: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}
Tedeschi: {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}

Monfort flopped top set with his pocket aces and scored the elimination after the {4-Clubs} and the {10-Spades} completed the board. A distraught Tedeschi made a quick exit from the tournament area while Monfort remained all smiles. He stacked the pot and now has about 58,500 in chips.

Brutal Day Ends in Bust for Mattern

Nível 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Arnaud Mattern
Arnaud Mattern

We ran into Arnaud Mattern in the hallway, not a good sign when a new level just started and no break is to start for over an hour. Mattern told us he had a brutal day and followed up that statement with a series of hands that eventually resulted in him being knocked out.

In one hand he called a middle position raise from the small blind with {7-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. Mattern explained that his neighbor in the big blind was a very novice player who literally didn't knew the hand rankings, and so Mattern did anything to get into a pot with him. The big blind folded unfortunately so Mattern was heads up. Mattern flopped gold on {9-}{4-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and check raised the 500 continuation bet to 1,500. His opponent called and called the 2,600 bet on the {J-Diamonds} turn as well. The river was the {J-Hearts} and Mattern bet 4,600. His opponent called with {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and so beat Mattern's flush with a slightly higher flush.

Another hand saw Mattern cold call with tens from the small blind after a raise and three bet to 1,000. The initial raiser called as well and Mattern was the only one check calling another bet on {5-}{6-}{2-} with two hearts. Mattern check folded to a second barrel on the {Q-} turn and his opponent claimed to also have tens.

A third hand that helped eliminate Mattern's stack was one where the Frenchman called three barrels with {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs} on a board of {10-}{6-}{4-}{2-}{Q-}. His opponent had jacks and Mattern was left with just about 12,000 after that hand.

With that stack Mattern finally found a big hand. Mattern opened with queens on the button for 400. Frederik Jensen made the call in the big blind and check called a bet of 500 on {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. Jensen checked called another 1,200 on the {4-Diamonds} turn after giving it some thoughts first. The river came the {2-Diamonds} and Jensen checked a third time. Mattern bet 3,000 with just a small stack behind, and Jensen pushed all in. Mattern was convinced Jensen had something like {8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, or at least a better hand than queens, and mucked.

With just 4,800 remaining, Mattern squeezed all in with {8-}{8-} after a 500 raise and call. "This was just one of these days where the guy had aces" said Mattern who couldn't out draw his opponent despite turning a gut shot.

"Maybe better luck in Malta" Mattern concluded. See you there Arnaud!

Wicked Wigg

Nível 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

On a flop of {5-Spades}{3-Hearts}{7-Spades} the big blind and Ian Simpson checked to Anton Wigg who was seated in the hijack position. The former EPT champ bet out 1,300 and his neighbor in the cutoff called, the big blind and Simpson folded.

Both players checked the {A-Clubs} on the turn and {6-Spades} on the river. Wigg tabled {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a rivered two pair. His opponent open mucked his {J-}{J-} and they were of to the next hand.
