In three hands, Philipp Wenzelburger went from the short stack to the chip leader following a miraculous run.
In the first, his pocket deuces rivered quads against Rania Nasreddine's ace-king suited to see his stack grow to around 950,000.
The following hand, he received a double and change after jamming the turn against two opponents. He folded out former chip leader Natan Chauskin before being called by Vladimir Troyanovskiy.
Wenzelburger had pocket eights on nine-high board which managed to survive against Troyanovskiy's bottom pair and flush draw.
On the next deal, Wenzelburger flopped top two pair and got three streets of value from Chauskin, to dethrone the latter from the top of the counts.

Action was on the turn on a board of 8♥9♥8♦2♥. Action checked to Francisco Cabello, who kicked off the betting. Derk van Luijk raised it up to 510,000, then Pieter de Necker moved all in for a little over one million. Cabello folded and Van Luijk made the call. Floor staff paused the action, but players had already revealed their cards.
Pieter de Necker: K♥J♥
Derk van Luijk: 2♣2♠
De Necker had a flush and van Luijk had a full house, deuces full of eights.
"Are you worried about the river?" joked a neutral player, knowing that de Necker was drawing dead.
The river came the 10♥. Van Luijk won the pot and de Necker was eliminated from the tournament. With that, the tables broke for a redraw.

Philipp Wenzelburger raised to 60,000 under the gun, Natan Chauskin three-bet to 180,000 in the cutoff, and Wenzelburger called.
The flop came A♥2♦9♣ and Chauskin bet 75,000. Wenzelburger then raised to 180,000 and Chauskin called.
Wenzelburger bet another 300,000 on the 6♥ turn and Chauskin again called. The river was the 6♣ and Wenzelburger slid forward a tower of green T-25,000 chips for a bet of 500,000.
Chauskin called once more as Wenzelburger showed A♦9♦ for top two pair. Chauskin mucked as Wenzelburger overtook him on the chip leaderboard.

Philipp Wenzelburger opened to 60,000 from the cutoff. Natan Chauskin and Vladimir Troyanovskiy called from the blinds.
Chauskin led out for 75,000 on the 9♥7♠5♠ flop and was called in both spots.
Chauskin continued for 250,000 on the 3♦ turn. Troyanovskiy called before Wenzelburger went into the tank. He used up two time banks, before jamming for 755,000. Chauskin snap-folded before Troyanovskiy began to mull over his options. The Russian used up a time bank of his own and then called to set up the massive pot.
Philipp Wenzelburger: 8♣8♥
Vladimir Troyanovskiy: A♠3♠
Chauskin immediately left his seat in frustration, possibly signifying he folded a hand stronger than Wenzelburger's. The latter was ahead with his eights, and needed to dodge Troyanovskiy's outs.
The 5♣ river was a brick and in back-to-back hands, Wenzelburger doubled.

David Docherty raised to 50,000 from late position and Selahaddin Bedir called in the big blind.
The flop came J♣3♣6♣. Bedir checked, Docherty continued for 45,000 and Bedir called. The turn was the 8♦. Bedir checked again and Docherty sized up to 125,000, which Bedir called.
The pot now inflated, the river came the 7♦ and Bedir checked for a third street. Docherty bet 315,000 and Bedir went into deep thought, using a time bank card before eventually mucking and conceding the pot.
The two had clashed just moments before and again Docherty continued to chip up his stack.

Action folded to Philipp Wenzelburger who moved all in from the small blind. Francisco Benitez peeked at his cards in the big blind and snap-called for 400,000.
Francisco Benitez: Q♣Q♥
Philipp Wenzelburger: K♠2♠
"Germany against phenom poker. Germany against Uruguay. Who's better at soccer?" tablemate Rania Nasreddine said heading to the 4♦3♦J♥ flop. The rest of the 7♦4♣ board missed Wenzelburger and Benitez doubled up.
The next hand, Nasreddine raised to 50,000, Wenzelburger moved all in for 425,000 on the button, and Nasreddine called.
Philipp Wenzelburger: 2♣2♥
Rania Nasreddine: A♥K♥
"Deuces never lose," Nasreddine said.
"Now I will lose, I know," Wenzelburger replied. The flop came 2♦3♦6♦ and Wenzelburger hit a set to take a big lead in the hand.
"Diamond for a chop," Nasreddine said after the 7♦ turn, but the river was the 2♠ and Wenzelburger hit quads to double up.
"If I'm going to lose to twos, I want it to be quads," Nasreddine said as she paid off the all in.
