Andras Nemeth Destroys Competition on Day 1 of €10,200 NL Hold'em

Nível 10 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Andras Nemeth
Andras Nemeth

There was a slow start to the final high-stakes affair of the 2023 PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague, the €10,200 NL Hold'em. After multiple delays, the tournament finally kicked off with five players. However, after all was said and done, a respectable field of 30 entries assembled at the Hilton Prague, creating a prize pool of €291,000. However, that number is sure to grow when Day 2 kicks off as the late registration will be open until the restart.

Despite the delayed start, the action throughout Day 1 was plentiful and spectacular. Whittling the field down from 30 to just 11 players, it was Hungary's Andras Nemeth who amassed a massive chip lead with his stack of 884,000 chips, good for 177 big blinds at the start of Day 2. Acquiring nearly nine starting stacks throughout the day, Nemeth, known as "probirs" online, plays more than two and a half times the stack of his nearest competitor, Kazuyuki Tanemura from Japan, who bagged up 341,000 at the end of the day.

Meanwhile, the only other Japanese player who survived the onslaught of Day 1, Motoyoshi Okamura, completes the podium with a stack of 255,000 and shares that spot with Sirzat Hissou, who acquired the same stack. Other players who ended Day 1 with more than two starting stacks include Fahredin Mustafov (234,000) and Elias Gutierrez (211,000). Meanwhile, Enrico Camosci and Deividas Daubaris find themselves on the bottom of the leaderboard, having made a minimal profit throughout Day 1 with their stacks of 102,000 and 101,000 respectively.

Among the players who did not make it through the day were Steve O'Dwyer and Juha Helppi, who fired two bullets each, as well as the likes of Aliaksei Boika, Aliaksandr Shylko, and recent €3,000 Mystery Bounty champion Gab Yong Kim, who all only bought in a single time.

However, all these players, as well as newly interested ones, will have the option to try again one more time. The late registration closes at the start of Day 2 when the blinds will be at 2,000/5,000 with a 5,000 big blind ante. The prize pool and payout structure will also be confirmed at that time. Levels will continue to last 30 minutes each, and, as Day 2 is on the last day of the poker festival, a winner will be crowned at the end.

Make sure to come back to PokerNews tomorrow, December 17th, at noon local time to find out which new faces show up to register, and who will make use of their last chance to capture a trophy at the 2023 EPT Prague.

Juha Helppi
Juha Helppi

On a completed board of QQ7J6, Juha Helppi was faced with an overbet jam from Motoyoshi Okamura. After tanking for a while, Helppi called off his stack of about 60,000.

Okamura tabled AQ for trip queens, and Helpii frustratedly tossed his cards into the center, but they were forced to be opened. The dealer rolled over the J8, as he left the room.

Toni Kaukua open-jammed from the hijack for 41,000 chips, and the action folded to Elias Gutierrez in the big blind, who made a quick call with the covering stack.

Toni Kaukua: AJ
Elias Gutierrez: 55

The flop came 5A5, leaving Kaukua with little hope as Gutierrez made four of a kind. No miracle runner-runner aces appeared on the 64 runout, seeing Kaukua exit late on Day 1.

Lehut Sits Down, Immediately Makes Quads to Double

Nível 9 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Jean-Vincent Lehut
Jean-Vincent Lehut

Jean-Vincent Lehut had just joined the action a few hands prior and was involved quickly on the Q87 flop when he check-called a bet of 13,000 from his only opponent in the hand, Nozomu Shimizu.

The 3 fell on the turn, and both players checked to the 8 river. Lehut jammed all-in for 66,000, and Shimizu took a few moments before making the call.

Lehut tabled 88 for quad eights, which got a chuckle out of Shimizu who showed 107.

Only a few moments later, Shimizu was seen walking out of the tournament area.

Things Getting Heated in the €10,200

Nível 9 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Fahredin Mustafov
Fahredin Mustafov

Mounir Tajiou opened 7,000 under the gun before Fahredin Mustafov three-bet 20,000. The action was back on Tajiou who asked Mustafov if he had about 130,000 behind.

Mustafov responded with a confrontational "Are you blind?" as he stared him down.

Tajiou seemed dumbfounded by the response and asked for the floor to listen.

Tajiou claimed he could not tell the difference between the blue and green chips, so the floor let him know which were which. While still deciding on his option he said, "I don't know why you're so upset."

Mustafov responded with a very blunt, "Because I do not like you."

"That much was obvious," Tajiou replied.

After a few more seconds of back-and-forth, Tajiou announced all-in, and Mustafov snap-called his stack of 173,500.

Fahredin Mustafov: AK
Mounir Tajiou: 99

It was a classic flip as the board ran out Q55K5, giving Mustafov fives full of kings to double through Tajiou.

"Now I like you," Mustafov joked as he pulled in the pot.

Tajiou reached out and gave Mustafov a fist pump as the dealer shipped the pot.

Aliaksei Boika

On a flop of 739, Aliaksei Boika's stack of 40,000 went into the middle, being looked up by Andras Nemeth.

Aliaksei Boika: KQ
Andras Nemeth: AA

Nemeth was sitting on the rockets, while Boika still had outs with his flush draw. However, the 42 runout did not bring a spade on the felt, resulting in Boika's exit.

Meanwhile, Jean-Vincent Lehut paid a late-night visit to the tournament with a fresh stack of 100,000 chips.

Nemeth Grabs Huge Lead in Battle of Big Stacks

Nível 8 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Andras Nemeth
Andras Nemeth

Deividas Daubaris raised to 5,500 from the button and Andras Nemeth defended his big blind. The 863 flop was then checked by Nemeth, after which Daubaris continued for 15,500. Nemeth made the call, and the 7 turn rolled off.

Daubaris fired 38,000 more after another check from Nemeth, and the latter called again. The 3 river graced the felt and Nemeth checked for a third time.

Daubaris opted for a bet of 85,000 chips, but this time Nemeth did not put in a call. Instead, he raised to 250,000. A long tank followed from Daubaris, sliding his time bank extensions forwards one by one.

Eventually, he tossed in one chip for a call.

"Straight," announced Nemeth as he tabled his 95. Daubaris' cards quickly hit the muck, as his stack was diminished by a great amount. Meanwhile, Nemeth took a big lead over the rest of the field, sitting on more than 600,000 chips.

Daubaris Busts Zarghami with Top Two

Nível 8 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Deividas Daubaris
Deividas Daubaris

Emad Zarghami opened from early position to 5,500 and got called by Deividas Daubaris in the small blind.

After it checked to him, Zarghami led out for 5,000 on the 5A4 flop and got called.

A J hit the turn, and the Lithuanian checked it again to Zarghami, who made it 12,500. Daubaris raised to 28,000, but Zarghami made the call.

The 2 completed the board and Daubaris shoved all in, having his opponent covered. The Australian used up four time banks while deciding whether or not to call for his tournament life - with around 100,000 chips left. He eventually did call and saw the bad news, with Daubaris' AJ beating his AQ.

Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

Toni Kaukua, on his first hand after having been moved to this table, raised to 5,000 from the hijack. Steve O'Dwyer then three-bet jammed for 51,500 chips from the cutoff, and the action folded to Elias Gutierrez in the big blind.

He tanked for a while before putting in a flat-call. Kaukua quickly folded his hand, which caused the other two players to show down.

Steve O'Dwyer: KJ
Elias Gutierrez: A10

Only low cards arrived on the 36878 board, meaning that Gutierrez's ace eliminated O'Dwyer, who hit the rail for the second time today.
