Unlucky for Ponakovs to Hit the Rail

Nível 15 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Aleksejs Ponakovs
Aleksejs Ponakovs

Daniel Dvoress ripped all in for 163,000 under the gun and Aleksejs Ponakovs asked for a count in the small blind before he called. The big blind folded and the two hands were tabled.

Daniel Dvoress: {k-Spades}{j-Hearts}
Aleksejs Ponakovs: {a-Spades}{10-Spades}

The board ran out {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{j-Spades} and Dvoress spiked a pair of jacks on the river to double up, leaving Ponakovs with just 32,000 chips.

On the next hand, Felipe Ketzer raised to 24,000 in the cutoff and Ponakovs moved all in on the button. Ketzer called and tabled {j-Spades}{10-Clubs} but was dominated by Ponakovs' {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}.

However, a ten on the flop of {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs} put Ketzer in the lead. The {a-Hearts}, {3-Spades} runout was no help to Ponakovs who was eliminated.

Big Stack to No Stack for Mulder

Nível 14 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Teun Mulder
Teun Mulder

Teun Mulder had a fruitful Day 1 in this event, but his fortunes reversed on the second day of action.

Juan Pardo opened from under the gun before Mulder moved all in with his short stack from the big blind. Pardo called to put Mulder at risk of elimination.

Teun Mulder: {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}
Juan Pardo: {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

The deuces remained ahead following the {j-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop and {j-Spades} turn. However, the {7-Clubs} river double paired the board and counterfeited Mulder which meant Pardo's ten was enough to scoop in the pot.

Galen Hall
Galen Hall

Jean-Noel Thorel opened to 16,000 from the button before Galen Hall moved all in for 108,000 from the small blind. Adrian Mateos folded in the big blind, but Thorel called to put the American at risk.

Galen Hall: {8-Spades}{7-Spades}
Jean-Noel Thorel: {k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

The {q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop had Hall with one foot out of the door and his exit was confirmed following the {2-Diamonds} turn before the {4-Clubs} completed the board.

After the hand wrapped up, the 12 remaining players were sent on a 20-minute break.

Greenwood Falls to Runner-Runner

Nível 13 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Sam Greenwood
Sam Greenwood

Stephen Chidwick was back down to 98,000 and pushed all in from early position. Sam Greenwood had 92,000 in the cutoff and stuck the last of his chips in the middle as well.

Sam Greenwood: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Stephen Chidwick: {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

Greenwood was in a great position to double up and the flop of {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} left him comfortably in the lead. However, the {4-Clubs} on the turn gave Chidwick a flush draw and he made it on the {k-Clubs} river to eliminate Greenwood.

Pardo Flips Vieira to the Rail

Nível 13 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Joao Vieira
Joao Vieira

The action folded to Juan Pardo in the cutoff who shoved all in for a little over 100,000. Joao Vieira was in the big blind with a stack of 79,000 and eventually called it off.

Joao Vieira: {k-Spades}{j-Spades}
Juan Pardo: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}

The flop of {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades} was bad news for Vieira after Pardo flopped a set of sixes. The {7-Hearts} on the turn improved Pardo to a full house, making the {j-Hearts} on the river insignificant.

Nível 11 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Jonathan Jaffe
Jonathan Jaffe

Jonathan Jaffe was the last player to be seated today after showing up to the tournament area a little late. It didn't take long for him to get involved when he raised it up to 10,000 on the button. Andrew Lichtenberger shipped all in for around 70,000 in the small blind and Jaffe quickly called.

Andrew Lichtenberger: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Jonathan Jaffe: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

The flop fell {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Jaffe took the lead with a pair of aces. The {a-Spades} on the turn and the {3-Spades} on the river were no help to Lichtenberger who exited the tournament area.

Who Will Come Out on Top in €25,000 No-Limit Hold'em III?

Trophy
Trophy

There will be at least 13 players returning to their seats for Day 2 of the €25,000 No-Limit Hold'em III on the final day of the 2023 PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris festival. It was a wild opening day to the event that saw ten levels play out and nearly 60% of the field eliminated thus far.

A total of 31 entries were recorded last night but late registration will remain open until 12 p.m. noon local time when the cards go back in the air. Leading the way heading into the final day of competition is none other than Adrian Mateos who will return to a stack of 757,000 chips. Mateos strolled in a few levels into the event and wasted no time spinning up a stack, sometimes in part due to a favorable river card.

He will be chased down by Dutchman Teun Mulder who already showed his dominance earlier this week by taking home a single-day €25,000 event. Mulder went on to eliminate every person on that final table in around 30 minutes to capture the title. He will be returning to a stack of 477,000 chips, most of which were accumulated in the first few levels.

Others to keep an eye on heading into today include Sirzat Hissou (340,000), Thomas Muehloecker (289,000), Steve O'Dwyer, (217,000), and Jean-Noel Thorel (196,000) still has chips he can put to good use as well. There will still be others that have a chance to join the field with a fresh stack of 100,000 chips so long as they haven't used both of their bullets already.

The cards will be in the air at 12 p.m. local time with the blinds resuming on level 11 at 2,000/5,000 and a 5,000 big blind ante. The levels will continue to be 30 minutes in length throughout the day until just three players are left and the levels will be cut in half. There will also be a 15-minute break after every three or four levels and no dinner break is on the schedule as of yet.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to bring you all of the live updates throughout the day en route to crowning another high-stakes tournament champion.
