€100,000 EPT Super High Roller

Dia 2 Começado

A Mixed Field of Players Return for Day 2 of €100,000 Super High Roller

Gakuto "Gackt" Oshiro
Gakuto "Gackt" Oshiro

After eight levels of play on the opening day of the €100,000 Super High Roller, a mix of players topped the leaderboard. It's the largest buy-in tournament of the 2019 PokerStars EPT Barcelona which attracted an array of players including many of the best in the world. There will be at least 32 players returning to their seats for Day 2 with their sights set on making the final table.

Leading them all was the 2018 runner-up, Ahadpur Khangah with a whopping 1,390,000 chips. That was far and away the chip leader as the only player with a seven-figure number on his bag from a 250,000 starting stack. While Khangah has found some recent success here at Casino Barcelona, he is still widely considered to be a recreational player against many of his competitors.

Following him in the chip counts are some of the more regulars on the high-roller scene including Teun Mulder (966,000), 2019 EPT Monte Carlo Super High Roller Champion Sergio Aido (852,000), and Michael Addamo (835,000). Rounding out the top five is Japanese music sensation Gakuto "Gackt" Oshiro. Since 1993, Oshiro has made a living as a musician, singer, songwriter, producer, and actor but this week he'll be focusing his attention on the poker felt.

There were a total of 57 entries on the first day, already surpassing the total of the 2018 field. Late registration will remain open until the start of Day 2 and a few others are expected to jump in. Each new player will begin with a stack of 250,000 and the blinds will resume on level 9 at 3,000/6,000 and a 6,000 big blind ante.

Beginning at 12:30 pm local time, there will be 10 levels on the schedule for today or until the final six players are reached. The levels will be 60 minutes in length with a 20-minute break after every two levels and a 75-minute dinner break after the sixth level.

Follow along with the PokerNews live reporting team for all of the updates throughout the day and the entire tournament.

Gieles Shuts Down After the Turn

Nível 9 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Timothy Adams raised it up from under the gun and was called by Luuk Gieles on the button and Mikalai Vaskaboinikau in the big blind. The flop came {j-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and Vaskaboinikau checked to Adams who continued for 15,000. Gieles raised to 33,000 and Vaskaboinikau folded while Adams called.

The turn was the {3-Hearts} and both players checked to the {q-Clubs} on the river. Adams used his full 30 seconds before dropping in a bet of 35,000. Gieles took a bit longer, using one time bank but decided to fold.

Khoroshenin Needs Three Time Banks

Nível 9 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

The flop read {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{k-Hearts} with 72,000 in the middle already.

Oleksii Khoroshenin checked in the cutoff and Sam Grafton bet 25,000 from the button which Khoroshenin called.

They both checked through the {5-Hearts} on the turn to the {2-Spades} on the river. Khoroshenin checked again and now Grafton barreled a bet of 110,000 over the line to send Khoroshenin into the tank. After using three time bank cards, Khoroshenin opted to fold.

No Messing Around from Tang

Nível 9 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Bryn Kenney opened to 14,000 from under the gun and was called by Michael Addamo and Danny Tang in the blinds. The flop fell {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades} which seemed to stir a flurry of action.

The blinds checked to Kenney who continued for 22,000 and Addamo quickly folded. Tang check-raised to 68,000 and Kenney responded with a three-bet to 122,000. Tang counted out his remaining stack before shoving all in for around 400,000 chips. Kenney quickly dispatched his cards and Tang collected the pot.

Carrel Welcomed by Khangah

Nível 9 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

A flashback to the 2019 EPT Monte Carlo Super High Roller where Charlie Carrel and Ahadpur Khangah constantly battled it out over the first couple of days in plenty of big pots. Now the two players are seated at the same table on Day 2 today after Carrel registered before the start of play.

Picking up the action with a completed board of {j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{a-Clubs} spread across the felt, Khangah checked from the big blind. Carrel tossed in a bet of 62,000 and Khangah quickly asked how much Carrel had behind.

"That's not what I wanted to hear," Carrel responded. "Umm, like 140,000 ish."

Khangah shoved all in and Carrel quickly mucked his cards. Carrel went on to explain some of their history to the rest of the table and Khangah chimed in as well.

"Are you happy you played now?" Khangah smirked which got a laugh from the table.
