Scott Seiver Bags Day 1 Chip Lead, Schindler Lives to Defend Title

Nível 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Scott Seiver Leads the Pack
Scott Seiver Leads the Pack

That's all she wrote from Day 1 of the $25,000 High Roller at the 2015 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. After 10 hours of play, the surviving players have bagged up their chips to return for the second day of action. In the end it was none other than 2013 PCA $100,000 Super High Roller champion Scott Seiver who bagged up the top spot on the chip counts with 307,000 in chips.

Seiver emerged as the one of the top stacks in the room about halfway through the day and was able to ride that momentum to the very top of the counts by the end of the night. Other top stacks include Oleksii Khoroshenin (272,00), Niall Farrell (271,000), Georgios Sotiropoulos (262,000), and Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akkari (258,800).

The event attracted a record-breaking 257 entries throughout Day 1, and that stemmed from 197 unique players and 60 reentries. This trumps last year's record-setting performance of 247 total entries. With registration still open until the start of Day 2, this total is expected to soar to an even higher one.

This event offered a single reentry to players whose bankrolls were deep enough given an elimination on the first bullet. Among the players to take advantage of that were Ivan Luca, Antonio Buonanno, Darren Elias, Christoph Vogelsang, Kevin MacPhee, Ivan Luca, Max Altergott, Ole Schemion, Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree, and Sergio Aido.

While Seiver bagged up the top stack, he is among the most elite competition possible in poker. Some of the notable stacks to return for Day 2 include Davidi Kitai (244,700), Faraz Jaka (222,700), Dominik Nitsche (211,800), Tony Gregg (193,400), Dani Stern (145,100), Brandon Steven (137,700), Mike McDonald (113,900), Shaun Deeb (110,700), and this year's $100,000 Super High Roller champion Steve O'Dwyer (84,700). Also returning to the felt on Day 2 is reigning champion Jake Schindler, who bagged a solid stack of 128,500.

Team PokerStars Pro also had a solid showing with several of the professionals advancing to the second day. Among those returning are Jason Mercier (153,800), Daniel Negreanu (153,300), Jake Cody (124,300), and Eugene Katchalov (41,800).

Some of the players to fire two bullets but ultimately come up short include Isaac Haxton, Matt Waxman, and Buonanno.

Play resumes at 12 p.m. on Tuesday in the luxurious Atlantis Paradise Island. As always, PokerNews will be on hand to provide all of the latest from the tournament floor.

While you wait, check out Chris Moneymaker losing to our very own Remko Rinkema in beer pong:

Hutter Loses Chip Lead at the End

Nível 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Barry Hutter
Barry Hutter

With the final board reading {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{7-Clubs}, Barry Hutter checked to Georgios Sotiropoulos. Sotiropoulos fired a bet of 31,600, to which Hutter responded by moving all in. With just over 77,000 behind, Sotiropoulos went into the tank.

... and tank he did.

After seven or eight minutes of watching Sotiropoulos tank — so long that most of the other tables began to bag up their chips — Will "The Thrill" Failla asked for the clock. A member of the floor staff appeared, assessed the situation, and informed the table that he wouldn't put the clock on Sotiropoulos because the tournament clock had been stopped and Sotiropoulos wasn't wasting any time actual tournament time.

"You know you're wrong, right?" said Failla straight away. "We can't just sit here all night."

"We've still got more hands to play, that can't be right," said Jason Mercier, who was also seated at the table.

A second member of the floor staff came over and it was determined that the clock would in fact be put on Sotiropoulos. After about 45 seconds passed, Sotiropoulos stuck in his chips to make the call.

Hutter tabled the {K-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for two pair, but that was no good against Sotiropoulos' {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} for the nut flush. Sotiropoulos was all in on the river for a total of 108,800 and doubled to about 260,000. Hutter was left with about 170,000 in chips.

"Get the f*** outta here with that hand!" exclaimed Failla, very surprised at how long Sotiropoulos took with the nut flush. "I thought he had aces."

"I thought he had a full house," commented Mercier with a smile.

"A full house?!?!" said Failla. "You guys are f***ing wizards over here."

Mercier Busts Colman

Daniel Colman - Eliminated
Daniel Colman - Eliminated

Jason Mercier raised to 2,400 from the hijack only to have Daniel Coman three-bet the action to 7,000 from the next seat over. The button and blinds folded back to Mercier and he came over the top with a four-bet to 15,700. Colman five-bet all in for his last roughly 49,000 and Mercier instantly called.

Mercier: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}
Colman: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}

Mercier was in a commanding position and he retained his lead through a {3-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} run out. Colman hit the rail and Mercier increased his stack to about 135,000.

Stammen Informs Amirov of Rule No. 1

Nível 4 : 150/300, 25 ante
Keven Stammen (Main Event)
Keven Stammen (Main Event)

From early position, Ole Schemion raised to 700. Keven Stammen, reigning World Poker Tour World Championship title holder, called from the next seat, and then action folded to Ilkin Amirov in the small blind. He three-bet to 3,000. The big blind and Schemion folded, before Stammen made the call.

The flop fell {8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}, and Amirov checked.

"I'll take the bait, I'll take the bait." said Stammen before he fired out 4,500. Amirov called, and Stammen responded, "Good call."

The turn was the {6-Spades}, and both players checked to see the {3-Clubs} fall on the river. Here, Amirov bet 8,200, and Stammen went into the tank.

"What did that gentleman bet?" asked Stammen after about 30 seconds of thought. He was then informed of the amount before tossing his hand away and giving Amirov the pot. "Good hand, buddy," Stammen commented.

"Why you look so angry?" asked Stammen after a few seconds passed of Amirov pulling in the pot. "Don't be angry, we can't all play like... Ole." The table laughed, a brief pause follow,ed and then Stammen said, "Have fun, that's rule number one."

Stammen then turned to Schemion and asked, "Where's your skateboard?" citing the fact that at last year's PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, Schemion was roving around the Atlantis Resort on a brightly-colored skateboard.

"I broke it," said Schemion.
