Kurganov Wins a Massive One Versus Thorel

Nível 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Igor Kurganov
Igor Kurganov

Igor Kurganov made a raise before the flop, and Jean-Noel Thorel three-bet to 75,000 from one of the blinds. Kurganov made the call, and the flop brought out {K-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. Thorel moved all in for 470,000, and Kurganov called right away.

Kurganov: {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}
Thorel: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

Thorel sighed when he saw Kurganov's nearly unbeatable nut flush. The {9-Spades} turn sealed it for Kurganov to leave Thorel drawing dead, and the river was the {6-Hearts}.

Thorel headed for the exit, while Kurganov soared to over 2 million in chips.

Team PokerStars Done and Dusted

Nível 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Daniel Dvoress opened for 21,000 under the gun and Jason Mercier, the sole Team PokerStars Pro in the field, three-bet all in for 136,000 from the hijack. Action folded back to Dvoress, who paused for a few moments before making the call.

Dvoress: {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}
Mercier: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

It was a flip, but Mercier needed to improve to stay alive. That proved easier said than done though as the board ran out a clean {4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{a-Spades}.

"Good luck," Mercier offered before heading toward the exit.

Former WCOOP Champ Sent to the Rail

Nível 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Fedor Holz
Fedor Holz

Byron Kaverman opened with a raise from under the gun and was met by an all-in three-bet to 119,000 by Fedor Holz in the hijack. Jeff Rossiter then four-bet all in over the top from the cutoff, which inspired the rest of the players, including Kaverman, to fold.

Holz: {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Rossiter: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}

Holz ran smack dab into the granddaddy of all hands, and he paid for it with his tournament life as the board ran out a lowly {8-Spades}{5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades}{6-Spades}.

Peters Doubles Through Holz

Nível 10 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
David Peters
David Peters

David Peters raised from the cutoff to 18,000 and Fedor Holz called from his direct left after which Alexandr Denisov called in the big blind. The flop came down {10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} and Denisov checked to Peters who bet 33,000 and only Holz called.

The turn brought the {4-Diamonds} and Peters fired another 70,000, which was called by his German opponent.

On the river the {K-Clubs} hit and now Peters checked to Holz, who put him all in. Peters snap-called for 251,000 total, and Holz showed his {A-Spades}{10-Clubs} before Peters quickly claimed the pot with {A-Clubs}{J-Spades} for the nuts.

"That'll Do It"

Nível 10 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Mike McDonald
Mike McDonald

Action folded to Dzmitry Urbanovich, one of the Day 2 late entries, and he limped from the small blind. A short-stacked Mike "Timex" McDonald, who a couple months back won the EPT12 Malta €25K High Roller, then raised all in from the big, and Urbanovich snap-called.

Urbanovich: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
McDonald: {a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

Urbanovich limped with a huge hand, and it looked as if it'd pay off. However, McDonald had the one card he wanted in such a situation — an ace.

Unfortunately for McDonald, the {6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} flop made that a moot point as Urbanovich flopped a set. McDonald needed running cards, but the {K-Spades} took away that hope.

"That'll do it," McDonald laughed as he was drawing dead to Urabnovich's four of a kind.

The meaningless {J-Clubs} was run out on the river for good measure, and then McDonald made his way to the exit.

Kurganov Decimates Luca

Nível 10 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Igor Kurganov
Igor Kurganov

Ian Luca raised to 14,000 and was called by Jean-Noel Thorel in the hijack, Oleh Okhotski in the cutoff and Igor Kurganov in the big blind.

Kurganov checked the {9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop, Luca bet 28,000, Thorel folded, Okhotski called, and Kurganov check-raised to 94,000. Only Luca called.

The turn was the {4-Diamonds} and Kurganov shoved for 215,000. Luca tanked for two minutes before calling with {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}, and Kurganov showed {4-Hearts}{2-Spades}. The river was the {8-Spades} and Kurganov doubled up.

Last Years Champs Busts

Nível 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Leonid Markin
Leonid Markin

Leonid Markin was seen exiting the stage. We later learned from Fedor Holz that he had been the one responsible. Holz told us he had raised under the gun to 14,000 with {Q-}{J-} off suit. Leonid Markin had shoved for about 60,000 with {A-}{10-} off and Holz had called. The board came {K-}{5-}{5-}{Q-}{9-} and last years champion made his exit.

Holz won a small pot after that where he called a button raise (14,000) from the big blind, check called a bet (14,000) on the flop and then bet out on the turn (22,000) and river (54,000) against button Byron Kaverman on a board of {6-Clubs}{10-Spades}{3-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Spades}. Kaverman folded the river and Holz was seen stacking chips again. Holz, who presumably lost some chips in hands since our last update, is back up to around 400,000 now.

Luuk Gieles
Luuk Gieles

Welcome back to beautiful Prague where at 12:30 pm local time the Season 12 edition of the European Poker Tour Prague €50,000 Super High Roller resumes.

Day 1 saw 51 entries in total (42 unique players and nine reentries) and 33 of those progressed to today's Day 2. The Netherlands' Luuk Gieles fared the best of those 33 survivors and was the only player to bag up more than one million chips when the curtain came down on proceedings after eight 60-minute levels.

As you would expect from a tournament with such an astronomical buy-in, the Super High Roller saw some of the biggest names in the business head to the Hilton Hotel in an attempt to get their hands on one the coveted trophy and what is sure to be a massive first place prize.

Among those who you'll no doubt of heard of includes the likes of Ole Schemion, Steve O'Dwyer, Mustapha Kanit, Mike Watson, Tobias Reinkemeier, Mike McDonald, Igor Kurganov, Byron Kaverman, and Stephen Chidwick.

Anyone who has a spare €50,000 available can buy in up to the start of Day 2, something Dominic Nitsche has done according to his Twitter account. Stay tuned to PokerNews as we bring you all of the Day 2 action from the EPT Prague €50,000 Super High Roller.
